Any situation you find yourself in life involving Johnny Manziel can hardly be called an ideal situation. I mean seriously the Cleveland QBs in 2015 were Josh McCown, Austin Davis, and Johnny Manziel. Jerry Rice in his prime would find that situation harrowing. This. It is the first week of August, however, and Hartline deserves credit for keeping the Mains on life support a bit longer until the season begins. Of course whether it is Hartline or the life support machinery keeping the Mains alive could be reason enough to start another thread.
Pretty simple. If Beli**** was so good at judging his players, why the hell was he behind Drew Bledsoe starting over him. It was only Bledsoe all but died during the game that Brady saw the field. Beli**** fell into that more so than anything.
Maybe we can all just agree that Hartline has been lucky enough to find himself on two teams which have had poor enough roster talent evaluation skills to allow his limited talents to be heightened. An ideal/good situation to me is Matt Cassell in 2008 with NE. This thread is starting to make me feel like when you realize you're at the bottom of a bag of chips when you just meant to have a few bites. I'm disgusted with myself but can't stop. Luck certainly plays a role. Belichick looked at two QBs and made a decision many would have made at that same time based off the information available at that time. One guy had battled to be a starter at Michigan and the other played in a Super Bowl. Then the stars aligned. I can't imagine at that point Brady was showing more at practice (given that he was working with back-ups) as Bledsoe was with the starters. Plus Brady didn't have a resume to suggest what he would become. Kind of like Romo in Dallas when I believe Parcells was the coach. Stubbornness could also be a factor for some coaches but I see why Belichick made the decisions he made.
Dude, he was a rookie. Rookie QBs starting wasn't a thing until later. Remember how big of a deal it was when Big Ben was putting up just "ok" stats in his rookie year and people said only two rookie QBs in the history of the NFL were good their first year, Dan and Ben. Back then it was the exception, rather than the norm, that rookie QBs start. And we're talking 1st round rookies. 6th rounders? Forget it. This is the NFL, nobody is Nostradamus here. Super bowl starting QB it's a no brainer. Patriots get credit for drafting Brady, and BB decided to stick with Brady when Bledsoe got healthy. Brady wasn't blowing the doors off, and BB could have very well went back to the experienced starter.
Well then...guess Hartline can't even get a job at Goodwill after all. Man it sucks getting old some days.
Brian Faultline, was the worst #1 WR in league when he was our #1 WR. He was in the running for the worst #2 WR in the league when he was our #2 WR. Now I know what some of you are thinking, but no, that doesn't mean he's a good #3 WR though.
