Fully recovered from a torn ACL that caused his draft stock to implode and ultimately made him a one-year member of the Browns, cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu has indeed torn the other ACL. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Ekpre-Olomu believes that the injury occurred when his cleat became stuck on practice-field turf that he regards as poor. The Dolphins had no comment regarding this claim. A source with knowledge of the team’s thinking on the issue said that the franchise studies the practice fields to ensure that they exceed any relevant standards for safety and performance. Regardless, Ekpre-Olomu has suffered a major setback to a career that may have unfolded very differently if he hadn’t stayed in school and had entered the 2014 draft. Opting to play one more year at Oregon, he suffered his first ACL tear in December 2014. If Ekpre-Olomu clears waivers, he’ll revert to Miami’s injured reserve list. After he was waived by the Browns in April, the Bills, Saints, and Steelers each tried to claim him. If another team does it now, they’ll inherit his salary for 2016 along with the obligation of presiding over his rehab.
Tough for the kid I never liked the signing even though it wasnt a cost thing. Our CB and Safety position is a major need for us and they attempted to fix it / depth with hopeful wishes. We need to get some depth before the season starts!
Unfortunate, but he was always a long shot. Well worth giving him a shot, but also not someone we were depending on. A lottery ticket that didn't win.
