Employeers are required to give you time to vote. You also do not work 7 days a week for weeks on end now do you.. And even then apply for an absentee ballot.

This is false logic. You're completely disregarding a very IMPORTANT aspect of law making which is legislative intent.

First off, it's not necessarily law (to my knowledge) that a supermarket requires an ID in order to sell you alcohol. It's that supermarket's private choice. And why do they make that choice? Because it IS against the law to sell alcohol to a minor, and if the supermarket is caught doing so then they are in a world of trouble. To prevent this illegal behavior, the supermarket (or bar) institutes a policy choice that all employees ask for ID. Sometimes the policy will be to ask for ID if the person looks 40 years of age or younger. Sometimes the policy will be to ask if the person looks young. Either way, it's a private policy that private entities institute in order to prevent illegal behavior and the consequences thereof.

But getting back to legislative intent, the laws against selling alcohol to people under age 21 were enacted because legislators were able to show credible purpose and intended benefit from the laws. There were studies cited on the effects of alcohol on people of different ages, the effects on growth, development, etc.

That's a pretty big difference from a voter ID law because the voter ID legislators are simply not able to show any benefit to these laws. They're not able to show widespread in-person voter fraud. And there HAVE been exhaustive studies looking for it. Trust me. It's just not there.

So if there's no benefit to the law, why are you creating the law? That's what legislative intent is about. In the absence of a demonstrable benefit to a law, only costs, it is only logical that the COSTS are in fact the primary aim of the law. In this case, the disenfranchisement of primarily minority and elderly voters.

Do people not have their own birth certificate or not know the names of their parents because of their own actions?

    That is a ridiculous argument.

You are misunderstanding the entire SCOPE of this discussion. The laws are racist because they are repeatedly and consistently shown in court to not address any identifiable or well evidenced problem, nor providing any benefit. The only thing these laws do is prevent a large number of people, primarily minority and elderly, from voting. That's it. No benefits, no problems solved, only problems created for a group of people that largely fit a certain demographic. This is all the evidence judges need to declare that the legislative intent of the laws is in fact racist. Or agist. Or both.

Although it is Kaepernick's right to sit during the National Anthem and I'll always support everyone's right to protest peacefully, I think what he did was STUPID. It's a slap in the face to all who and who have served.

-The Colors are posted by a MILITARY color guard
-Often there is a MILITARY flyover
-And the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner itself are a tribute to the gallantry and heroism of the soldiers who fought during the Battle of Fort McHenry, defending the fort from the bombardment of the British Navy during the War of 1812.

Anyone who wants to peacefully protest, you go right ahead and protest. Its your God given right but anyone who shows the utter disrespect that Kaepernick displayed, I have zero respect for you.

I never understood this argument since the precedent has been set with the Confederate Flag, a lot of blacks didn't think it was offensive or racist, what mattered was a large majority did and we took it down over their concerns, do why does it matter what the minority thinks here?

So your defense is proving intent gee where have i heard that from before.... The challenges to Voter Id ask those to prove a negative... Its beyond stupid and i have no idea why judges keep falling for it.

There is zero evidence of malicious intent behind these laws out side of the constant cries of racism.

And yet Kaep said nothing about the military in his statements. Protesting the flag =/= protesting the armed services. You're conflating two things that are related but not completely synonymous. The flag represents a whole array of things about the country, not just its military.

The next verse of the Star Spangled Banner is about killing slaves, btw.

I do not know if it is a majority of veterans are upset or not.

I never understood tying the American flag to the military. And guilting people who don't support it by disparaging the troops. It seems to be very Soviet Russia to me.

    Why do you think?

Its not like the Civil Rights movement happened a 100 years ago.

We, as a country, talk with great fondness about the midwest American farmer. The man whose family tilled the same land for generations. One son after another, takes on the mantle and carries on family traditions and values, on down. We love that ideal. History, family, tradition.

Now imagine instead of farming being handed down, being discriminated against is handed down. Imagine what lessons would be passed from one generation to another if the elder once worried about being lynched for dating a white woman? Weren't allowed to eat in certain restaurants. Considered 3/5 of a white person? Imagine how those lessons get strengthened when get pulled over for fitting a description...or when yet another unarmed black person is killed by the police.

Oppression is built on 1000's of tiny cuts like derogatory words and cemented by major acts of evil like slavery or unjust imprisonment.

Actually there is significant evidence of the intent and that evidence is often cited in the court cases.

But you go on, continue just making stuff up as you go.

I don't know why someone can't be critical of this country but still respect the flag and what she means to a large portion of this country. Pissing people off and driving a wedge through an already divided country is not progress to me.

Its no secret over 90% of all African Americans were going to vote Obama over Romney. So its also no surprise that:

Hardly you claim there is oppression due to the past. With that logic that farmer is always going to be a farmer.. In reality the farmer can move on to something else.

Slavery is the last resort of you guys i am shocked you used it so quickly.... So what now the insults?

I feel like you're being purposely obtuse.

You've been given reasons why this would affect minority turn out. Then you have the PA House Repub leader admitting passing voter ID laws was to defeat a black candidate.

You couldn't draw a straighter line with a ruler.

No one is saying a random person can't rise above being a farmer or the lessons oppression taught the oppressed. But again, you're just acting like these aren't things that happen to the vast majority of people. Most people stay in the same financial class they were born into. Most people keep the traditions and lessons they were given.

    Hardly.

I've given bogus reasons and then seen Slavery brought up... Or farmers if you prefer

PA House Repub mentioned something that would help Romney win.. Not how nor was the D candidates race mentioned.. Well except by... You ( shock)

And right or wrong if he felt there might be voted fraud going on in his state and this law would help curb that?

See you and all wack job sites ASSUMED racism was at hand all off a short clip and then ran with it...... Funny stuff.
