I think that's already been explained. Several times.

Somehow I think this is going to end with you stipulating what the definition of "is" is.

No, its been explained why voter ID is detrimental to minorities. There's been a number of posts detailing the specifics. Other than that, here's just a few examples:

    http://www.politico.com/story/2014/10/voter-id-laws-minorities-111721

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/courts_law/getting-a-photo-id-so-you-can-vote-is-easy-unless-youre-poor-black-latino-or-elderly/2016/05/23/8d5474ec-20f0-11e6-8690-f14ca9de2972_story.html

    http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/03/how-voter-id-laws-are-being-used-to-disenfranchise-minorities-and-the-poor/254572/

But fine, forget that for a second...try it from this angle....why do conservatives care about voter ID so much? There's been no evidence of serious election tampering from the voter end. If it didn't give the conservatives advantage why do they push it and in fact, use it as a election strategy?

That video is actually proof its an election strategy, you know. The gentleman in it, is not a no one.

For any average citizen, it's not a big deal, for someone who everyone claims is trying to start a discussion on the problems with police, it's disrespectful. Referring to cops as pigs is an insult.

That's fine. If he ever needs the police just don't be surprised if they're not so vigilant in their protection.

To me it's this, if he's trying to get people who are not on his side on his side, don't be disrespectful even if you have a problem with police, if he's looking to incite anger and decide sides even more, then wear the pigs socks.

The problem is what he said is not only wrong, but ridiculous. There aren't bodies piling up in the street. No one is being oppressed. It shows a horrible ignorance of what oppression is. Go to Nigeria, Syria, the Sudan, N. Korea, Congo, Angola, etc, etc, etc. Very few black people are restricted from achieving life goals because of their color. There are some, of course...but there are plenty of programs and efforts to remedy wrong situations. This was a foolish act for foolish reasons.

Of course he has the right to say whatever he wants. He has a right to his opinion. He should be held accountable to objective facts.

They have a right to tell him that. The government can't make him leave, but that has no effect on what people can say to him.

Uh...that is not why he claimed he was "sitting". He said he was doing it because of oppression. Which is asinine.

Equality? You think he really wants to go there? If so, let him give away his paycheck until his earnings are "equal" to that of his peeps. Life is not equal, its often not fair. But anyone can overcome their situation if they work hard enough, stay out of trouble, and obey the law. There are too many examples to mention.

Athletes shouldnt' go down the "equality" trail.

Perhaps, but it also made him look like a fool. Unless of course, he can find the "oppressed" people he referenced in his response.

Look, he knows hes about to be out in SF and probably out of the NFL. He wanted to down with gun ablazin'...good enough. Most of the responses I've seen in public have ridiculed him as a dimwit. Thats plenty good enough for me.

You'll have to explain to me how this is about killing slaves

Did Kaepernick say anything about the military? No, verbally he did not. It may be difficult for those who haven't served or been in combat to understand, but the US Flag has so much more of a meaning to us. It's not just a decoration in front of a home or a building. When that flag is lifted off of a casket, folded and presented to the family of the fallen it has such a deeper meaning. Without us, there would be no flag to hoist...or to protest.

This verse celebrates the defeat and death of slaves who were offered their freedom in return for fighting for the British. Francis Scott Key was an anti-abolitionist who owned slaves and once referred to slaves as "a distinct and inferior race" that are "the greatest evil that afflicts a community." He saw the slaves that fought for the British in return for their freedom as traitors, and celebrated their death in the Star Spangled Banner.

To my knowledge Kaepernick never even implied anything toward military veterans, let alone said anything explicitly. Contrary to what you may think, any time someone talks about America the country, America the flag, or America the ideal, they are not talking about its military veterans.

The verse is the one below that even, and goes: And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion A home and a Country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave. Where the hireling and slave refer to the mercenaries and former slaves freed by the British that fought against the Americans. I refuse to comment further on this thread as it's going just about how one would expect.

Hey, I looked at what the man said...he said the next verse.

Now as I write this, I'm reading it...analyzing it and looking at it in the totality of the ENTIRE poem. I've not come to a conclusion yet in which I can offer my opinion, but I do know in fact (hirelings) the British hired mercenaries (The Hessian during the Revolutionary War) as well as privateers and slaves...all at the King's pleasure for reward or dismissal.

[ETA] So you think 70+% of the country should move to North Korea? Then you can set up your own North Korea here, I suppose.

So not standing for the National Anthem, is somehow being disrespectful of ALL service members, but one unarmed black man being killed by police is not being disrespectful of all black people?

My opinion on this is... I think the story should of died the day it came out. Don't agree with his decisions, and I am all for the black lives matter movement and a huge supporter of it, but in the end, there may be a handful of countries that the grass is greener, but I doubt it.

Still, many sacrifices were made for his freedom and rights, and he can do what he wants so long as it's law abiding.

Had he been playing for the North Korean football club and he decided to sit down protesting this flag:

Kim Jung Un would probably have had him beheaded by now.

And down the rabbit hole we go. This needs to be moved to the NFL forum since this has nothing to do with the Dolphins and he's not a current, former (or hope to god future) player for them. IMO.

I've been waiting for the story to die since it came out... it's cringing hearing everyone give their opinions on it.. Usually a player is very PR, but when your relevancy is on it's last legs, Kaepernick just straight up don't give a ****. He knows he's getting 20-22 million this season, and that's probably his last big check of his career until he becomes a career backup for Russell Wilson.
