Salguero on the Cuts and Roster: "Miami Dolphins making cuts today The Miami Dolphins have made their first multiple cuts of the preseason today. Cut this afternoon were: DB Akil Bount, OL Ruben Carter, WR A.J. Cruz, LS Ryan DiSalvo, CB Brandon Harris, WR Matt Hazel, TE Gabe Hughes, K Marshall Koehn, DB Al Louis-Jean, OT Vinston Painter, WR Branden Shippen. With Koehn gone, it means Andrew Franks has won the kicking competition for the second season in a row. With DiSalvo cut it means long snapper John Denney has apparently won the long snapper competition for the 12 year in a row. The Hazel cut is interesting. He was running with the second team in practices. Only seven receivers remain on the roster and the team is likely to keep five or six (if the sixth is a return specialist such as Jakeem Grant). The seven currently on the roster are Kenny Stills, DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry, Leonte Carroo, Griff Whalen, Grant and Rashawn Scott. Stills, Parker, Landry, and Carroo are assured of roster spots for all intents and purposes. The team must be down to the 75-man limit by Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Dolphins currently 78 players on the roster. In other news, linebacker Jelani Jenkins has undergone what is being termed as a minor knee scope, as noted by The Herald's Barry Jackson. The team is hopeful Jenkins can be ready for the regular-season opener at Seattle on Sept. 11 but that is not certain. Minor cleanups, as this is being characterized, requires two to three weeks to return to the field at 100 percent barring any setbacks."

Just read how bad the Colts like played last night. They pulled Luck early. Could be the same or worse than last year. If I am Miami, I smell blood in the water. Call Indy before they cute A Lineman and see if you cant get a pick. By the way, this year Tannehill might just throw some distance between RG3 and Luck as the better qb. Tough to predict. I'd have said Daniel Thomas, Jamil Douglas and Jordan Williams, but with Drake still on the mend and McCain and Fede banged up at DE, Miami may have to keep guys on the roster they'd cut to get through the 4th preseason game. For instance, Foster and Ajay may not play enough, so Miami may be forced to play Daniel Thomas a lot that game.

One of those move will be the placing of cornerback Chris Culliver on the physically unable to perform list. This is confirmed. He will not count toward the 53-man roster. He would be able to continue rehabilitating his surgically repaired knee. He will be eligible to begin practicing after the sixth regular season game -- so October. So the Dolphins will be making 21 other moves today.... The Dolphins terminated the contract of offensive tackle Sam Young. He was scheduled to make $760,000 this year. He was on third team. Bad combination. 20 moves to go. The Dolphins have released CB Rahaan Melvin. No surprise as most of these will not be. Melvin has NFL experience but it is bad NFL experience and he didn't cover anyone in camp. 19 moves to go. Chimdi Chekwa is gone.
