What I find kind of funny is that the very premise of any scripted, traditional ceremony is based upon providing a meditative moment in which you can pause, recall and quietly consider some deep and important aspect of your culture, religion, organization, etc.

Even if you stand for the flag, the idea of doing so is to take a moment and meditate on it's meaning. Demonstrators are therefore not doing anything else with these protests. They are taking the moment to meditate just like everyone else.

The reality of things like this is that if there is enough uproar about not standing, what happens is that the entire ceremony goes away. If you aren't willing to accept these players topic of meditation, fact is, you're criticizing thought. The only alternative to freedom of thought is to do away with the ceremony entirely.

...and don't think it would be unprecedented. We edit our social customs continuously and today's corporate culture is great at "fixing" these problems with the attitude of, 'anything that causes turmoil is better left outside the gates.' The irony of this particular demonstration is that it's aimed at something which has been a part of sports for a long time, namely the use of the national anthem prior to games. Moreover, the NFL seems to enjoy it's connections to the military.

In the end, I'm not sure that Kaepernick thought it that much through but the thorn in the side of the NFL was positioned pretty nicely.

I agree. Of all days, they had to do it on 9/11. Really?

I see. So, if you were to walk into your office every morning and sing the Star Spangled Banner at the top of your lungs upon entering the door and your boss told you to cut it out, that would be anti-American?

I think you're exactly right, and that is the ultimate goal, even though these players prolly don't realize it.

Again, people who aren't racists don't like being called racists. I wonder how such a hateful racist place as the United States ever elected a black guy president two times, with 2 black attorney generals, and numerous other highest heads of vital federal agencies. Curious, that.

Racists don't like being called racist either.

Why are african americans targeted/pulled over/arrested/questioned at a rate disproportionate to their percentage of the population?

You are disrupting the work environment in your scenario. Sitting during the national anthem doesn't disrupt anything.

Actually, a racist would prolly tell you they were a racist in a minute. But, that's immaterial to the fact that people don't like to be falsely accused of things. Police in their spare time are people too. I don't see why that should surprise you, or anyone.

I don't think black people are "targeted", as in, "hey, there's a black guy, let's go pull him over", but as to arrest and questioning, it is plain fact that black people commit far more crime on a per capita basis than any other group. I know, facts are racist, but go look at FBI national crime statistics. Are laws protecting property and prohibiting violence racist?

    No it doesn't.

First of all, why are you or anyone looking around when the national anthem is being played. Not focusing on the flag, is as disrespectful as not standing. Secondly, not one single game has been been affected.

You think racists are only skinheads and klan members. You also think they wear the word racist like a badge. Neither of those things is reality though. I didn't say all police are racist nor did I say they weren't human. I said the police force is racist and it is.

Black people are convicted more. That's kinda the point.

Understand what you're saying before you go further., which is...black people are genetically predisposed to commit more crime. That is, by definition, racist.

There hasn't been booing of Kaepernick at the game? It doesn't disrupt the fans' enjoyment of the game? I'm sure singing the star spangled banner in your office wouldn't really "disrupt" anything, either. But as I said earlier, the way the players feel is the way the players feel and if they don't want to stand, then I surely wouldn't want someone doing it because their boss compelled them to do so.

No, actually my take is it is the culture with the absence of strong fathers in the household. You jump to the conclusion that there is some genetic deficiency, not me.

Likely because of government programs which encourage women to have children without being married. Over time, it has cummulative impact.

    There is no such thing.

So in your opinion, at some point in American history, African American males were being targeted unfairly by the cops, but that stopped right at about the same time a fictional government program was invented to convince AA women to have children without fathers?

Police officers working Dolphin games or providing other type security for Dolphins players or Dolphin events are working off duty and are being paid by the Dolphins. So if some of the police officers are upset with the players and don't want to work these off duty jobs anymore. I have no doubt there will be plenty of others officers who will be very happy to pick up these off duty jobs.

Like me it or not, these players had every right under the Constitution to express their views in the manner they did.
