That this team has major issues and a lot of drafting needs to be done over the next two years for Gase and company, what are we to expect out of this team on a short week? If we have our doors blown off in Cinci will you be upset like you were on Sunday complaining that this team sucks etc.? Or will you just expect it and hope for the improvements over the next couple of year knowing we can't compete this year anyway and it was a short week on the road? At at this point I really am expecting to get our butts handed to us tomorrow night, Bengals have too many offensive weapons and we're not moving the ball with consistency on offense yet. I thought coming into this year we may have a shot at second place in the division but I think I'm more accepting of our fate this year.
Of course I'd be upset if we lose, but I recognize this is an extremely tall task. Short week on the road against a good team coming off back to back losses. We're also pretty banged up, especially on the offensive line. It sets up miserably for us, and if we're going to have a chance we have to play a mistake free game and hit a couple of big plays in all three phases.
I said before the season started, we would win 4 games. I expect to lose so if it happens, it's ok. I didn't have the aqua glasses on before the season started. I thought the only good FA we signed was the safety Isa Abdul-Quddus.
I am just looking forward to seeing the orange jerseys. I knew this would be a down year, so getting blown out wouldn't surprise or upset me.
I fully expect us to lose in a low scoring affair. Won't bother that much given the circumstances. I know the chicken littles will run around saying how much we suck, but the realists on this board expected to go 1-3 in the first month with games on road vs Seattle, NE and CIncy. But then we have 5 out of next 7 at home. 5 of those games are winnable by this team. I can see us at the end of that stretch being either 5-6 or 6-5. people will be more content until we go 1-4 to end the season. If we play well, I see us with 7 wins, but more likely 6 wins by season's end.
I think the players tend to step up in challenges like what we have this week. I expect another close game and we could eek out a win here. I hope it's more of a shoot out kind of game. I don;t think we should be trying to force the running game like we did last week. Not saying to abandon it, but start out doing what you do best and establish the pace of the game. Pick plays that give your players the best chance to succeed (as Gase said he would in the beginning). It may come down to which team can hold the other to a field goal. Maybe we win the field position game and that's enough to tilt things in our favor. It's a tall order based on what we've seen so far. But there have been some positives, and with a few breaks who knows.
Of course Ill be upset as I'm invested in this team when I don't want to be. I follow these forums daily, read news articles daily and when I see a team come out flat and uninspired I feel like I wasted my time so yeah I get upset. However saying that I picked us to got 7-9 8-8 at most this season. I don't think we addressed our defensive needs in the offseason. We did a lot of hope and pray signing's but nothing we could say There is our man. On offense we still need to get better. We have players minus a real Running Back it seems now. Our Oline needs to gel better. I don't think we will have a real representation to what this team is until week 8-9 and by than were probably out of any wild card contention for those who are holding out hope. Gase needs to learn as well.
Seriously I have no expectations on a game by game basis for this team for at least the first 8 games of the season. I just see us as being Jeckyl and Hyde while the new O and D are installed. I see some things where if everything clicks we can be dominant, and other situations where the players miss assignments and cra* the bed. After 8 weeks I expect to see the pass game running smoothly. I expect the pass rush to be strong. I expect the running game to be marginal at best. I expect the LB corps to be undermanned and lacking in talent. I expect the DBs to be having growing pains as young players gain experience. But in the first 8 weeks I expect total inconsistency.
I think we all should know, where this team presently sits, short week, up against a really good team who just lost. It's a pretty tall order for us to win this week. We're not an elite team. We shouldn't be expecting to win every week. At least you shouldn't if you're looking at this roster, and this team in it's present situation from a realistic and reasonable point of view. What I WANT to see, is an offense, and a defense that shows it's capable of building consistency and not continually beating themselves like they have been up to now. Improvement is what I'm looking for. If we win, that's awesome! If we loose, that sucks, and it'll bother me initially, but on paper, and from a talent standpoint against the Bengals we're at a disadvantage IMO. That being said, we beat then last time on the Wake off safety. So there's always a chance, but the way this team is right now, especially while still getting used to a new coaching staff, and new systems, things favor Cincy right now. As long as this team keeps improving though, and getting more consistent, that's a big plus.
I have no expectations for a first year head coach who has never coached before, especially in light of the roster issues we have. If we get blown out, I wouldn't be surprised. Let's face the cold hard truth, we are still rebuilding. This roster has major holes at almost every position group. I know this is frustrating as we've been rebuilding for almost a decade. Unfortunately, we have to reset that clock. Having said that, this is what I'd like to see: 1) Tannehill get more comfortable in this offense and improve 2) Our rookies contribute and get better 3) Parker develop into a playmaker and get healthy 4) Can Turner or James develop into a quality starter 5). What do we have with Alonso and Maxwell? This is what I need to see over the next 2-3 seasons 1) smart drafting. Draft playmakers at impact positions. Draft and develop OL in middle rounds. 2) sign solid contributors in FA. No big splashes 3) Retool our OL and D 4) Year 2 .500 or better 5) Year 3, playoffs 6) Get rid of dead weight or guys who don't earn their playcheck
A lot of folks are scared of the Bengals but behind AJ Green they only have Branden LaFell so if Vance can somehow reign in the damage done by Green things could get interesting. Jeremy Hill is a Lamar Miller kind of RB. He's not going to dominate week-in, week-out. In fact, he began the year with 2 very unspectacular games where he averaged 3.7 and 2.0 yards be carry. Last week that ballooned to 5.7 per carry for a total of 97 yards against the Broncos. If Miami can limit Hill to an average day and somehow provide some help to whoever's on Green, I think the defense could actually hold Cincinnati to between 17 and 24. That definitely opens the door for Tannehill and these WRs to do something. I think there's a shot. Who knows? Maybe Miami continues playing like they did in the 2nd half vs the Browns? Maybe the mojo somehow carries over on a short week? Also, as far as the QBs go. They're essentially identical this year with Dalton having a few more yards: RT - 65%, 892 yds, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 7.9 YPA, 89 rating AD - 65%, 938 yds, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 8.2 YPA, 89 rating
Yeah, history has proven that and I'm definitely betting on the spread of +7 for the Dolphins. I think there is a decent chance we somehow win this. And if we do, our season looks a lot different no matter how many flaws our team seems to have.
Eh...Ill be upset to a point. Really tomorrows game is going to be hard to win, just based on the fact that its a Thurs road game. Road teams so very rarely win. After this game we have four straight home games. All win able. That is the stretch to measure the team by. If we can steal a win tomorrow night....those four games in a row at home are gonna be huge.
Won't be upset in the least. I'd say I fully expect we'll get massacred, but as someone previously pointed out, this is the kind of challenge you'd expect players rise to meet. And, as has been pointed out, we have historically, somehow, someway, seemed to play Cinci pretty well. If we could do the unexpected and actually pull out a win here, it could serve as a springboard for better disciplined play - learning to win. I don't think another "moral victory" does anything but discourage. If they lose here, I'm basically done for the season unless they get a hot hand. I'll check the score after the games and lightly survey the news articles, but other than that I'll wait until draft time, then start all over again.
Read my original post, you tell me if that's trolling. I just laugh at dolts who complain about every poster but spend all their time reading their posts. Comical
Last time I was surprised by a Dolphin victory was against New England last season. Maybe they can do it again. Maybe.
I'm not overly optimistic but I expect a least a strong reaction from the Players after the Browns game and certainly after the comments of Gase about performing or get benched. IDK if it's just hope but I get a Feeling... Despite all the dissappointment so far - I will be up tonight (and that's at 2.30 in Switzerland)! Go Fins
I'll be at the game. I expect a win. Somehow we normally beat the Bengals. I at least expect a solid game.
The defense is just not good enough. I am starting to think it is the wide 9 scheme that is responsible. It is putting too much pressure on our Lb's and they just aren't good enough.
Im the biggest dolphin homer out of anyone I know personally. Our D has been so poor that it is hard to be confident in this team. Im over Koa "the hammer" Misi and Jelani Jenkins. I want to see what we have in Butler and Hewitt. Its also going to be interesting to see if Tunsil gets the nod at LT tonight [h=3][/h]
AJ Green has to have rubbed it raw thinking about facing our swiss cheese defense. I started him in every Draftkings lineup.
i think at this point we have to be realists, we have too many homers who are "glass full" fans here and find silver linings that never come to fruition. And I so agree with you regarding Misi and Jenkins
No, just a general post towards anyone that fits the description. His original post was not even that bad, but someone called him out for being kneejerkish. It's a legit original post.
The only things I find encouraging about this team right now are the WR unit and how many rookies are contributing already. This is a complete rebuild job and I'm not sure Tannenbaum is qualified to do it.
Jeremy Hill is running fairly well. Gio B is not running that well but is dangerous catching the ball. Of course Aj green is a huge weapon.
not impressed with jeremy hill, struggled to get 30 yards week 1 and 2 and was 17-97 last week against denver with one run of 50 yards to make his stats look good....having said that....our run d sucks right now so we have to worry about every RB we face any given week...but cincy is not blessed with offensive talent anymore.....AJ Green obviously is a problem, but no more Sanu, no more Marvin Jones, Eifert is still out...its Brandon LaFell and a Rookie
The way our defense is structured all it takes is Green to gash us all night long, never mind two good RBs and although I'm not a Dalton supporter we let guys like 3rd string QBs from Cleveland and Tyrod Taylor look like Dan the man himself. Short week on the road is not a good recipe
