I ask, because in 2011, we had the inside track for the #1 pick and we blew that, and well, here we are 5 years later. As of now, we are on the inside track for a top pick, but history says we end up breaking off a couple wins, and picking in the middle of the draft, not a good way to get an elite player that is coveted, without giving up picks. So what do we do? If we play Tannehill, we may not win another game, as we should be 0-4. However, playing him for the rest of the year doesn't help any potential development of Doughty. Playing Doughty let's you see what you have, however, you could strike off some more wins, like in 2011. The more important issue is figuring out who is worth keeping on this team. We are stuck with Suh and his contract for a very long time. However, from a practical/realistic standpoint, he cannot help this run defense at all. Is there a scenario where he can get assets for him? I don't think there is. So we would have to build a scheme and personnel with him to help stop the run. Speaking of the defense, we need to get younger and athletic on the edges, at LB and in the secondary. There is so much to do, with limited cap money, and this will take a while. Have patience is what I am preaching.

Wouldnt surprise me to see the team win 7-8 games. Doubt they end up with the top pick.

There are just more holes in this team than we can fill any time soon. The entire O line, except Tunsil will need replaced. The LBs will need replaced, the corners will need replaced. That's a bunch of replacing. Of course by then the QB will be old and need replaced. We are looking at years.

QB is average, gets Elite pay, and is overrated by homers, he needs to go.

Amazing. How many more high picks/free agent dollars does this team have to invest to have a functioning offensive line?

Just think about all the draft picks we've invested on offense, and how bad they still stink! In the last 6 years, we've taken 5 guys in the 1st round and 3 in both the 2nd and 3rd rounds on offense and our offense is still garbage! That's 11 guys that are high round draft picks and outside of Tunsil, Landry and Parker, they are either garbage, average or not on the team.

That my fiends, is horrible drafting bordering on neglect!

To my eyes, the defense might--as shocking as this sounds--be in better shape than the offense. The defense has 2 studs in Suh and Jones but also 2 pretty solid developing players in Phillips and Howard. I personally like Kiko quite a bit if he's shifted outside. His youth, speed and aggressive tackling are all assets that would make for a good OLB. I'd also like to see Jason Jones kept on. Abdul-Quddus I also have no problem with and he's got 2 more years on his deal.

So I think you need a CB, MLB, OLB and DE.

I think DE and/or MLB are going to need to be high picks in the draft. There are no long term DEs on the roster and this team needs a franchise LB in the middle. If the right players align with where you're at in the draft you might jump on someone.

That seems like a lot but consider what you need on offense: QB, RB, TE, and O-line. The QB will probably need to be a high pick and let's be honest, when we say O-line we're really talking about 4 positions as LG through RT don't look very good. I've already said, I'm in favor of moving on from Albert and Pouncey. I think James is flirting with bust at this point. He's dipped below average and has become a liability. If he doesn't clean it up the team may honestly need to pursue a more solid RT option in free agency.

I think we're going to see a free agency much like we did in 2008 when Bill Parcells fleshed out a competitive roster by trading a few late picks to grab a hold of guys who aren't starters on some of the better teams (i.e. nabbing NT Jason Ferguson from the Cowboys for a 6th).

To me, Miami is in a position where they're likely going to have to bring in a few free agent options at the more affordable positions like LB and O-line. There are several names at CB which is why I suspect we might see Miami reach out to one despite CBs typically being expensive.

    CB
Dre Kirkpatrick (CIN), Logan Ryan (NE), Stephon Gilmore (BUF), Captain Munnerlyn (MIN), Trumaine Johnson (LA)

    G
Jonathan Cooper (NE), Chance Warmack (TEN), Evan Mathis (ARI), Kevin Zeitler (CIN)

There's also a lot of talk about the 4 premier RBs in this draft: Chubb, Cook, Fournette and McCaffrey. I could see MIami biting on one based on the open roster spot but there's little doubt Tannenbaum will want to fill that position in free agency. He took a half-dozen mid-round RBs while with the Jets and spent 1st round picks on essentially every position outside of RB. I doubt Tannenbaum allows this team to go with a 1st round RB if he's in charge.

A name I'd keep my eye on is Oakland RB Latavius Murray who's set to hit the market. He's 26, weighs in a 230 and is 6'3". He's a big back that put up 1,300 all-purpose yards last year and averages over 4 yards per carry. Le'Veon Bell is also a free agent but I don't think Miami will pay that much nor do I think he's as reliable as Murray who's only really played 1 full year in the NFL. He missed his rookie year, played spot duty in year 2 and is now entering his 4th season.

He'll be in his prime when he hits free agency this offseason and Tannenbaum has a history of going after free agents in order to secure his primary RB. He did it in NY with Thomas Jones and then again with LaDainian Tomlinson. He attempted to do it here with Miller and then Anderson and eventually signed Foster. Tannenbaum is clearly going to chase Murray I think.

It would drive me nuts (but I would see the need) if we paid free-agency money to Murray a year after refusing to pay Miller

Not to intervene but thats simply "cap hit" in terms of how much he makes with bonuses etc. he is 14th.

Not that 14th is elite pay by any means, but hard to argue it isn't a bad contract especially when he is playing at a bottom tier level of late. Audibles....ha! Count me in as one of the guys that thought that was going to make a difference.

    It hasn't.

next years draft seems deep in RB's and QB's so we should be good to go.

It was so funny watching Tannenbaum avoiding any potential glare from Ross at the Pats game.

Talk to me in four weeks. That Cincinnati game was Henne-esque. I've seen much worse.

...and tell George Soros to destabilize something else besides the Dolphins main. We're only four games in, Jesus!

assume we go with a rookie RB and QB, we would need to seriously upgrade the defense at least for two years until those guys develop.

it's being worked on slowly. keeping rashad and abdul. howard and if lippet develops. then the young LB'ers getting playing time with the new play good or get benched... they may not look good this year. but there is youth to keep and build around, unless they don't grow, which is down to coaching. DL is rough though lots of old guys on it and philips who has hit or miss plays.
