He was aware of him, he pointed him out to me, he played at WKU with Doughty.

    Yeah, pretty much this.

While I agree with Con that this year's picks are, in general, more valuable than next year's picks, so much going into the WR position bothers me when we have so many needs... and needs on defense just seem to be more pressing. It's that way now, and I believe it was that was at the time of the 2016 draft

FO tried to get Jack in the 2nd round but was leapfrogged by the Jaguars. Not saying their neglect of the position is right in any way.

true that, and all the ones I mentioned got drafted :) I still do not understand why their kicker (Garrett Schwettman) was not picked up by someone, the guy never seemed to miss a kick. Schwettman led the country in Field Goal Percentage at 93.8-percent, going 15 of 16 with his lone miss on a blocked kick at Indiana. Schwettman was 79 of 80 in extra points and tallied a school-record 124 points, giving him 398 points for his career, shattering the previous record of 298 points.

READ TRAVIS READ - he was injured. He didn't play in the first four games that's why there's no stat line.

    I mean seriously?!?! LOL

There you go being intellectually dishonest again. His first seven games ACTIVE and played in:

    Well away from here
So we already have a team willing to bypass such a seminal talent already? If so wouldn't you question why?

You know damn well there is a difference between starting and not starting because of injury. Odell wasn't on the bench because he was no good. He was injured. Carroo ... Is playing

Dallas wasn't comfortable at ALL with Romo. Not even a little bit. His injury history alone was cause for concern not to mention at his stage of his career he hasn't shown the ability to get them where they want to go. SB. The whole story behind Dallas's off season was "will Dallas draft a QB" that isn't made up by the media that is a real franchise concern.

Dallas was not comfortable with Romo, at least not long term. There were trying to get Paxton Lynch but couldn't work it out, they were hot after a Qb in this draft because of Romo's health. They got a little bit lucky I would say.

The point remains, he was NOT DRAFTED TO START THIS YEAR. He just hit the ground running in the preseason, won the backup job and Romo got hurt. A lot of teams draft QB's with a plan to develop them. My response was refuting an assumption that Miami was comfortable with RT (or Gase supposedly) so Dak was not in the discussion. We say that and then forget we traded a 3rd AND a 4 to draft a guy who played a position we actually have decent starters at.

Would they have considered him? Maybe. But to dismiss it on the basis of "Gase believes in Ryan" is silly.

Well for the record, I wouldn't have even considered that Carroo trade, thats not to say Carroo is a bust or a bum its just that I didn't feel like a WR at that point in the draft was a smart move, let alone trading future picks. I don't think we would have taken a Qb with that pick if we hadn't made a trade.

It's not silly at all. They moved up to get Carroo which in my opinion was a bad move considering other needs or talent available. It isn't an assumption when the head coach states it. And the fact that they did move up and didn't take a QB regardless of which one and didn't take one at all until Doughty further proves that they we're comfortable with THill going into the season. Was there a conversation? Maybe even probably but I can discuss the need for a new car and dismiss it with not much more than few seconds of thought. The point is buy the time the draft was in full swing they had an opportunity to make a move on one to competent with THill but waited to pick a QB to compete with the third stringer. Quite honestly I wish they would have taken QB sooner. They just didn't.

I understand value based drafting and i also understand that sometimes you have to give up some picks to go get your guy. My problem is that we do this far too often and it has very rarely worked out. We moved up for Dion Jordan. Bust. We moved up for Daniel Thomas. Bust. We moved up for Carroo. It's too early to decide but why make this decision when we have so many glaring holes at RB, CB, LB?

The baffling thing for me is that this organization has been so dysfunctional over so many head coaches, GM's and scouts. We've wasted draft picks on bad trades. We've moved back and picked up draft picks only to waste them. We've moved up to get guys giving up picks to not have that player pan out. We've traded for guys who didn't pan out. We've signed free agents who haven't lived up to their contracts. The only certainty about any of our moves is that it likely isn't going to work.
