Indeed it was. Because Hall said he'd smash Ian Thorpe and the Australian team like guitars. Hence the Aussies getting out of the pool, after Thorpe had run down Hall Jr on the final leg and playing some serious air guitar.
I suppose it weighs out in things like tennis as well; the home country players get higher seedings in the Majors because they're home country players. Andy Murray was ranked 16 in the world before Wimbledon but was the 9th seed. Same with James Blake at the US Open last year if memory serves. So yes, I think in that respect they're "skewed" but not in a cheating sense. I think for any majour tournament to work, the host nation's fans need to be kept interested as, after all, it's them who is making up 90% of the crowds. Just look at the World Cup of 2002 in South Korea. Roll on 2012, as Britain is BOUND to be heading the medals table. Probably.
And Hall Jr etc had it coming. As did the French last night I think it's good to be proud to be considered among the best if not THE best in the world at your respective occupation. I think it is a complete lack of respect for whatever sport to be so arrogant to think that just because you are considered the favorite that other teams are going to just go away.
The Americans did the right thing by taking the higher ground and not gloating at the French on the podium.
I think that's part of competition. The French got what the Yanks got 8 years ago. It makes it a bit more fun. I'd bet there's a hell of a lot of respect between the two sets of swimmers, just as there was with the Yanks and the Aussies in Sydney.
Unless they censor Canadian TV. The Canucks easily won their race and automatically qualified for the finals Not sure if you thought I meant USA
Did anybody catch the Brazil vs. Hungary Team Handball match? Another AWESOME match! Hungary a clear favorite scored with a second left to get a tie and a point. Great match, stinks for the Brazil team. BTW: I enjoy watching the USA coverage because of Melissa Stark. She's still hot as hell. I'd put her up against Erin Andrews any day. I have to say it...boy, I wish I was a part of the UVA lacrosse team when she was there. Woooo Doggie.
shades of Mexico City, I heard our runners trained behind city buses to become acclimated for that one......
I heard they just ran round inside your house during one of your infamous 1970 "smoke hound parties".
Yeah they have shut down most of the factories in the area and ordered millions of drivers off the road. The monitor it hourly and are prepared to ban nearly all cars from being on the road and shut down pretty much all industry if needed. Now if only they could keep it up after the games lol. Michael Phelps rocks, but hell that Jason Lezak guy in the 400 free relay was crazy. That last 25 meters where he overtook the french guy .... wow! Always nice to put snotty frenchies in their place lol
Man, the swimming, basketball (womens) beach volleyball (in the rain), and the gymnastics have been amazing. These gymnasts are incredible.
Any gymnasts in here? One thing that REALLY stands out is these guys Biceps. I mean, whats up with that?
Phelps is now tied for most career golds. Nice. And an injury-hampered US still wins bronze and even had a run at the gold. Makes you wonder if the Hamm twins would've given us a little more edge. Now if only NBC can remove the time delay...
Has anybody noticed that some olympic sports are really dum and boring like white water rafting. I wish they were not getting rid of baseball.
D-Wayde.....do I have to go through this again... Just kidding, in that Angola game, D-Wayde was ALL OVER THE PLACE, including very very solid defense. That nasty crossover he did just made his defender look silly...
The USA Basketball team is very good this year and I hope we can get the gold. But Dwayne Wade is crazy he is great. He has great defense
i know i'm a homer but i think the scoring in gymnastics is a little suspect. horton from the US team does a perfect routine on the highbar and has a triple summersault dismount and sticks the landing and scores a 15.725, then that chinese guy on the vault does some flips and twists but steps out of bounds on the landing and still gets a 16.100, unbelievable. its not gonna happen, but my wife and i agree, if we had to depend on international judges and not a clock, we wouldn't compete.
Couldnt agree more here. I dont think I could ever devote my life to a sport/activity where my success hinged on the opinion(s) of another human being... although I was a pitcher for 15 years where an umpire had control over my success with his strike zone so...
anybody watching Rudy Fernandez? he is arguably been the best player for spain, add him to an already loaded blazer lineup....daaaaaamn
What time is Phelps' first race tonight? I know the second one is an hour later but I do not want to miss either. Anyone know?
