I didn't say that you couldn't win with a star pg, especially in an era that doesn't differentiate between pg and so as much. Just that I prefer to look for different things at the position than many. I don't like ball dominant points guards. I still feel offenses are better when they have someone to initiate things for everyone else.

And no, Dragic is not in Westbrook or Lowrys league on D. Kemba and Kyrie are also better on D IMO. He's very mediocre on d. He's a step slow there.

True Story: Goran Dragic has had better defensive metrics than ALL OF THOSE guys (especially Kyrie, who is the worst defensive pg in the NBA) the last two years.

I really don;t know what possessed you to mention Russ and Kyrie. Those guys are flat out Hostile toward putting any effort on Defense.

This is a dumb semantics response but defensive metrics are flawed and I don't think anyone really believes Dragic is better than Lowry on D. He's probably around that Steph area of just being average or a bit above, right?

The rest of those guys are trash on defense.

Heat is 4th in Offensive Rating and 4th in Net Rating in the NBA in the preseason.

Uh..yeah...put that Larry O' right there where I can see it. LOL

Gonna be good. I feel great about my 44 wins prediction. 44 wins, and a 6th seed.

I'm actually looking forward to this new roster, as much as I'm going to miss Wade and Bosh. At least the Big 3 drama is over with and we can speed up thr rebuild process, which we know won't be like the Sixers, it'll be short and we'll be able to construct a roster that makes sense, for the kind of bball Riley & Spoelstra want to play.

Reminds me of some of those 90s and early 2000s Heat teams that weren't very good but were fun to watch. With low expectations set on the team this year, we can truly focus on the roster and see who's worth keeping going forward.

I find the Durant drama hilarious. And he is the one doing it himself...l shut your damn mouth about OKC and Westbrook, you said you want to move on then move on..

What i find even more funny is a quote that i cant copy and paste atm but he said:

"Im sure glad they blew It in the Finals because i sure as hell wasnt going to sign if they won"

So basically hes saying if GS won game 7 he wouldnt be there, but losing game 7 was the difference... what? Theyre championship contenders with or without you..

    1st in Off. Rating
    1st in Plus/Minus
    13th in Def. Rating
    1st in Net Rating
    2nd in Pace
    2nd in Rebounds

Yep, that definitely looks like the 8th best team in the West that ESPN and Vegas are predicting...lol

Kyle Wiltjer (the guy who I said was a steal during summer league) is quietly averaging

    10.5 ppg on...
    55% FG
    50% Three point
    100% FT
in just 18 minutes per game.

    I'm just saying

True story, russ is a MUCH better defender then Dragic. Watch the games. The stats dont do him justice. If Steph or Kyrie has the ball on the final possession who do you want guarding him? Tell me its not Russ. I like defensive metrics but i know what my eyes see also. Whoever came up with that just chucked numbers together and didnt know what they were watching. And the idea he is in Lowrys league on d is flat out laughable. Lowrys allowed like 5 plahers to score 30 points against him in the last 5 years and every one that did it is one that we would classify as a good PG except maybe rondo since i think he got him once like 4 years ago.

And the final test is that this guy played for Mike D Antoni so you know he cant play D. Aint no D in D Antoni.

    Some things I find interesting:

    1. The Heat have had the following performances from behind the arc:

    11 of 23
    8 of 22
    12 of 31
    11 of 30
    13 of 32
    10 of 24

So they've made 10+ three pointers in 5 of 6 games, averaging about 10.8 per game, and they're knocking them down at a 40.1 percent clip. Last year the Dubs averaged 13 threes at a 41.6 percent rate and that was rightly credited as FREAKY. But the year before, when they WON the championship, they averaged 10.8 threes per game at a 39.8 percent rate. For the record, a team has only crested the 40% mark in three point shooting 5 times in the last 17 seasons. It's a pretty rare thing. I mentioned before that it's like the Heat are trying to be Golden State. I probably should have clarified that they're more aiming for the 2014-15 version of Golden State.

    2. This sounds like a totally homer thing to say but cut-downs are going to be tough! Goran Dragic, Josh Richardson, Justise Winslow, Hassan Whiteside, Tyler Johnson, Luke Babbitt, James Johnson, Derrick Williams, Dion Waiters, Wayne Ellington, Udonis Haslem and Willie Reed seem like locks. But that only leaves 3 spots for a group that includes Rodney McGruder, Josh McRoberts, Briante Weber, Okaro White, Beno Udrih, Luis Montero and Vashil Fernandez. Some may see that as pretty easy but I'll be darned if Okaro White hasn't looked good every time he's gotten a chance to get out there. Seriously.

    3. Does preseason mean anything in basketball? Is it like the NFL preseason where you go 3-1 and then promptly go on to a 6-10 season?

Back to Okaro White I know he's been inconsistent on three point shots in his career but I actually like his shot structure and wonder if there isn't something to work with there for the Heat coaches. He clearly fits in with the lengthy uber-athlete motif the Heat like to go with in the depths of their rosters. He's just been hard not to notice in preseason during the minutes he's played.

Maybe this is the typical guy you let go to Skyforce for a year, but he does make me wonder.

I do watch the games. That is how I know that mentioning Russ and Kyrie in the same sentence as "defense" is laughable. They just don't try, at all. The numbers just confirm what I already knew.

Interesting that you say that, because Goran Dragic was ONE of them in the playoffs last year. In fact, Lowry had Dragic exclusively in that series, and Dragic cooked him for 18.9 ppg on 46% and 36% from three for the series.

    1) Might be an outlier, but it is definitely their style. I think they are trying to play more like last year's Hornets.
    2) Cut downs will be easy. they control the entire roster, so the guys that are eligible for the most time in the D-League, get the axe. Weber, McGruder are in the most danger.
    3) Preseason usually tells you a ton about the style of play, and has nothing to do with win%. The style of play is what lends itself for regular season success.

That's ironic because it seems to me like Weber and McGruder are among the most ready to play immediately. Weber's such a defensive weapon and McGruder is a good all around.

If I'm making the decision, I probably go with Weber because having a PG with that kind of defensive ability is pretty rare in an era where there are some really tough covers at that position. You know what you have in Udrih, though. He looked very serviceable last year before he got hurt.

Problem with Weber is that he's a total one-way player. He really gives you nothing offensively. Poor shooter, not a threat in PnR, doesn't have the instincts or playmaking in the lane, too small to do damage as a finisher. He's just a specialist and can only guard one position at a high level imo. I do like watching him defend though, he's got fantastic tools and instincts on D.

You forgot Bosh. So cutdowns will actually be a little tougher, sadly. Just 2 spots for McBob, Beno, McGruder, Briante, White. My guess is it'll be the two vets. Despite athletic and size limitations, McGruder has looked really good lately, just knows how to play and shoot, good feel for the game. Tough to keep another shooting guard though. And I think Spo will like having a vet PG who's been around.

Nope. Bosh will take up 1 of the 15 roster spots until he's waived in March, which is supposedly the plan (so teams can't add him for the postseason). McBob's heap of body parts will also take up a spot, in all likelihood. It's not ideal.

The choice is probably to pick one of: Beno, Briante, McGruder.

OR....they need to wait till late February anyway to clear his cap figure.

How bout they cut him right now, so another team can pick him up (for ****s and giggles/lock up our cap space for a year), and use OUR CAP SPACE to store his contract? That just makes perfect sense to me. That is just great cap management. You must be a Knicks fan. Oh..wait.

Not as far as I know. I think this us from the last CBA where they agreed to increase the roster size from 12 to 15 which is why you now have to decide prepare which players will be active. Obviously created about 100 permanent jobs and got rid of a lot of the need for 10 day contracts when the league used to have injured slots. Essentially those new roster spots are injured spots but with guaranteed salaries.

Russ routinely does a good job on defense. I could see the argument more with Kyrie though I still don't agree.
Yes Dragic had the best series he's had as a member of the heat. Doesn't change the fact that Lowry is still better in all facets.

I have been a big fan of McGruder since early on in Summer League so I like that development especially since Section mentioned cutting Briante means keeping him around at Skyforce. I think one more year working on his offensive game will help him.

A little bummed about Okaro White. Is he going to be at Skyforce?

RJ Hunter was waived today. With the Heat's strategy to collect shooters, do you take a shot on him over McGruder? I know he hasn't exactly been the shooter people though he would be coming out, but if he finds his form again, he could be a deadly shooter.

Hunter hasn't done the work he had to do after college. He's still too small and gets lost in NBA-level sets. Someone will probably pick him up, but it won't be us.

McGruder's ready to play right now, and he just may see the floor this week with JRich out and Elliginton iffy as well.

Wow...Dantoni stayed true to his word. He kept the best 15, and didn't give a damn about the guaranteed money. Kyle Wiltjer, Bobby Brown, and Tyler Ennis made it. Pablo Prigioni and Gary Payton Jr. got cut, even though they both had guaranteed money.

I can get 6-5 on the Heat getting more wins than the Knicks.

So how bout your $300 vs. My $250, Knicks vs. Heat, more wins. No tie breaker. If they Tie, we push.

if you don;t want to do that, let me know, maybe we do a straight up $50 in gear bet.
