It looks as good as could have been hoped for. As a game at the VERY end of the PS2's dominant lifecycle, I guess that was a little easier to do. It looks like a PS3 game in many ways.

I also laughed when I realized that a lot of the video takes place in an area that I spent a HUGE amount of time leveling up in during my first playthrough 10 years ago.

The art assets are all basically the PS2 versions, just upscaled. This is a low-effort enhancement on the graphical side, IMO. They are doing everything they can to avoid redoing artwork.

For those interested, Kingsglaive is officially being released on Bluray on Tuesday. Amazon is selling the special ed for $19.99 and the regular for just $14.99. I'm hoping that other retailers follow suit. Makes me feel good about cancelling my preorder for the deluxe ed of the game and just getting the regular one. Could end up saving me as much as 15 bucks, plus I get to watch the movie this week, rather than waiting another two months.

My best buy copy already shipped, it was $15.99 for me to get the special edition (sale price of $20).

Cool. I'm going to head to Walmart Tuesday because its on the way to where I'll be headed. If they don't have it, I'll go to Best Buy on Wednesday.

    New Active Time Report summary:

They’ve hit performance targets on the PS4, so presumably a steady 30 FPS with dips in larger areas. AI enemies are behaving as desired as well.
Code base is feature locked, the only changes being made are last minute bug fixes prior to going gold. Hinted that development efforts are going to DLC now, but also probably the inevitable PC version.

Game is on track for the current release date. It’s happening.

Its too bad that it got delayed. I'd have really loved to spend the last few days engrossing myself in it. But I am relieved that it should be out before December.

You’ve had plenty of other options, though. Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, Dragon Quest VII, and in a few days, Paper Mario Color Splash.

My wife got me Lego Jurassic World for my birthday, so we'll play that a bit. I've gotten back in MLB The Show as well, after taking a few months off.

My RPG(ish) calendar will be very full soon. I'm likely to run into situations where I'm not done with one before another is released.

    https://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-radio-classic-songs-list/

A comprehensive, and extremely extensive, list of the music that can be played while driving the Regalia. Its a huge list, with songs from almost every game. I was surprised however, that it doesn't seem to include any of the pop/rock songs that actually have lyrics, such as from FF8, X and X2. I have MP3s of those that I still listen to from time to time.

I've never been much of a user of the Death spell over the years, but that looks cool. I like how it evaporates them. Curious what the success rate is. In most FF games, the spell would only work well on enemies at a much lower level than the player. I generally stick with the elemental magic.

I'm sure modern versions of the game it's been patched out... But in FF6 back in the day if you use Vanish on an enemy then use X-zone or Death, there's a 100% success rate. That's how cheesed through FF6. Even bosses. Even the infamous Atma Weapon. I'm probably showing my age now. Bye.

LOL, no, its good to talk to someone who's been playing the game about as long as I have! Once I got it, I used Ultima like crazy in that one. I later learned that the spell was supposed to have friendly fire and would take out any of your party that didn't have a revive spell on for the Japanese version, but they changed that and toned it down for the US. It really made it a destructive weapon with no consequences. 9999 off the enemy every time basically, in the days when that was the HP hit limit.

That was a bug, though. It was patched out of later versions of the cartridge, and doesn’t exist in the later ports.

Death’s utility varies with each game. It looks like it’ll be more useful in this game, balanced by the long effect time. And I’m sure there will be 2 or 3 bosses that will be unexpectedly vulnerable to it.

    And to the Phoenix Down.

    Choo-choo.

I figured it would be patched now. I used to play the game cheeseless until i got to this bastard:

That boss was brutal. At least in my head he was. He dies when he runs out of MP, so Osmose is useful too. Or if you just live long enough. I kind of just cheesed him.

I don't have a link, but I read a quote this weekend that said, to paraphrase..."If we make a version for the PC, it will take at least a year"

I saw the same thing, and chuckled a little bit. The entire point of the Luminous Engine is to make PC porting faster. Tabata was talking about upgrading the game for the PC as a new release, but Square-Enix doesn't do that. They add some graphical sliders, cap the framerate, and toss it out the window.

If they genuinely do upgrade the game for a PC release, then it should be worth waiting for.

So basically they (like Rockstar) realized smartly that if you hold the PC release a year... a lot of people (I am totally guilty of this) will buy it twice.

    Pretty much.

Though I'm still waiting on that PC version of Red Dead Redemption. I refuse to play it on console.

As a console gamer, I'm thankful that they're devoting all of their energy to making the game the best that it can be for one set of systems. These days, with how advanced things are, games seem the best when they are only making them for one generation.

The appeal is the same as anything else. Escapism, fantasy, roleplay, exploration, discovery, story, character, customization, development, etc.

RPGs are so special that they've become assimilated into every other genre. Everything else now has skill upgrades, XP levels, unlocks, upgrades, etc. The RPG won. Everything else took on its qualities.

I think that I mentioned it before, way back in this thread, but I've been playing this series since 1990 on the NES. I got the first one for my 13th birthday. Its part of my gaming blood as much as anything, and though I've branched way out, when I think RPG, I think FF, even as the series has evolved, and not always for the better. I've been a Final Fantasy gamer for almost the exact length of time that I've been a hardcore Dolphins fan. Much longer than I've had a computer or been online. Its effected my other choices, and inspired my interests not only in video games, and my jump from Nintendo to Sony in 1997, but in movies, TV shows, books, music, comics, and even the friendships that I made. Indirectly, my love of the series has actually shaped my life in some ways. It kickstarted me in a direction that I may not have taken otherwise. Its also cool to "get" something from the foundation, to see it as its evolved, and understand it better than someone who jumps in at a later date.

It's kind of gotten away from me since 13. Maybe it's because I'm older and I notice more... but the more "anime" final fantasy gets, the more i tend to dislike it. I have really high hopes for this one because I think I need a good FF game. U really really disliked 13. And that was coming off of 12 which was one of my favorites. I can't wait til the 12 remaster comes out.

I realized earlier that FF will join Madden as the only games I've played on six different generations of consoles when 15 comes out.

    NES
    SNES
    PS1
    PS2
    PS3
    PS4

I'm pretty sure that I haven't legitimately played (owned or borrowed for an extended time) any other non-sports game on more than three generations. Zelda (NES, SNES, Gamecube) and Mario Cart (SNES, Gamecube, Wii). I've played most of the Lego games that have come out, and on the PS2, PS3 & PS4, but I haven't yet gotten the newest Star Wars one, so I haven't technically played three generations of that specific series. Gran Turismo on the PS1, PS2 and PS3 also. The PS4 version seems to be online only, so I'm out.

im kind of annoyed the co-op crap they're adding is behind a DLC paywall. Not sure why that annoys me. But it does. I get it if it's just not ready at launch. But dont charge for it.

I'm annoyed that they're wasting time on online and/or multiplayer plain period. Come on guys, if anything is the last bastion of offline, single player gaming (which is all that I do), it's Final Fantasy.

I agree. But being that this is a 4 player action combat game... Maybe a buddy and I would like to do some dungeon or quests together. Seems like an alright option to have. Just seems awful short sighted to charge for it.

I agree. Allowing other players to control another party member is perfect. It turns FFXV into the new Secret of Mana.
