Is it simple as saying we play the 32rd rated pass defense? I wish it was, but I know a couple things in the NFL, how good is the opposing pass offense to exploit a bad defense and how good is that team's run defense to offset the porous pass defense? To me it will come down to how effective will a punishing run offense the last two weeks of Miami do against a great run defense of the Jets (5th). AND, can Miami's threat of running and play action fake, eventually beat down the Jets?
Alot of the time those defensive rankings are skewed one way based in hiw good or bad a team is at the other. A team can be really good at run defense so teams chose to attack their pass defense resulting in numbers that are skewed against them in pass defense. Or they can be so bad at pass defense that teams don't even bother to go after them in the run game resulting in numbers that make the run defense look much better on the stat sheet than they truly are. Usually a team is neither as bad at or as good at either as the stats would have you think because of the lopsided approach their opposition has been taking. I think we just continue doing what we have been doing the last couple of games. Establish the run and set up the pass. Get them thinking run and go play action pass. If the online holds up Tannehill should have a good game. Revis is struggling and the rest of their secondary goes as he does. Should be a good game for us, but then it's the Jets so you can through all that out the window and expect a dog fight. Usually us with these guys.
I think the jets pass defense is bad because their corners are bad. Stats are not hiding this one. We have two weeks to open up the pass game from the threat of the run Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ryan has a legit run game now and he's obviously at his best in the play action game..let's see him carve a team up with that threat.
Eager to see the wrinkles with bye week. Including roll outs, how we use the TE, more vertical passing with the threat of the run and just running now that the league knows about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Make Fitzy make mistakes (which isn't hard to do), and continue pounding him. Streaky dude. Could go 0-8 then throw two TDs the next two passes. Will keep throwing and throwing. Doesn't have the best arm, but apparently likes slant/curl routes and hits those passes with some frequency because of his comfort level making that throw. There's no way the corners "out physical" their wideouts. Just play sound football outside and not get into it with them. Not really impressed with their run game.
My gut says to switch things up and come out for the first drive anyway with an air attack. But the smart thing to do is probly keep the ground game going as others have said. For some reason I have visions of getting stuffed up the middle over and over in my mind when I think of it though. As long as the line continues to open things up, and Alayi continues to show patience and quick shifting, then go for it. If we just try to ram it up the middle and get stopped, then please don't just repeat that until we are sunk. I think sometimes success in one thing can turn into a trap and teams get stubborn about sticking with it. They try to rationalize... "Oh that last stop was an anomaly. We'll get our game going here soon." Three 3 and outs later, we are down by 20 and morale is shot. I've wondered at times in the past, when the running game gets a spark because the back is being patient and choosing the gaps, then stinks it up the next week. Whether it's coaching, or the players heads, or whatever... next thing you know you have a back just throwing himself as fast as he can into the backs of his blockers getting stuffed for very little or a loss every time. Hoping that with Gase, we don't have this problem.
Well, statistically, they're dead last against the pass. No. 1 against the run. Cleveland has a decent run offense; I think top-10, and couldn't manage 80 yards against them. I think you continue to stick with Ajayi running the ball. Honestly, first play of the game should be play-action pass to Stills. But the rest of the game, you really stick with Ajayi. Find out what this O-line is really about. Make them take it to another level. See what they can do against these Jets running. Who knows? They might surprise us.
Here's how I see it. Each week, we seem to come out struggling in the first half. Then we get to the locker room, our coaches go off, and then we take the field with a more focused team and a better game plan. Add all that up and it tells me that Gase knows how to plan for an opponent. For instance, we beat the crap out of Seattle in week one in every area but two- time of possession and points on the score board. You can't blame the coach for dropped TD passes and missed field goals. Anyway, I'm not expecting this team to come out rusty and I think we will make a statement on the first few opening drives. We have yet to play 4 quarters of NFL football on offense and that will likely be the main focus all week this week- starting fast and finishing drives. So I think the game plan to beat the Jets is simple- just execute and avoid mistakes. We don't need an overly complex scheme to earn the W.
We should destroy them...what, with us coming off the bye, and them with fresh Browns stank coming off them. I'd focus on ball control and intensity.
J.E.T. uh wait... what comes after T again??? Oh yeah! S for SUCK SUCK SUCK!!! It's jester week beaches!!!!
Just somebody pop pretty boy Brandon one good one. Special teams this week. It's time for Jakeems first TD!
Jakeem got his first TD a few weeks ago, I'd love to see him play a few actual snaps on offense though.
A lot of confidence on the boards. I wouldnt say we are out of the doldrums yet. Jets pose issues on offense vs a defense that is improving, but still has personnel issues Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would really prefer that we avoid any kind of risky trick plays, honestly. I think that we can move the ball and win without them.
My guess is they're thinking all they have to do is stop the run and make our QB win the game. The more he drops back to pass, the better their chances.
Was that the Cinci game? I was in the hospital so I missed it. Well, He can get his 2 and third TD's then. Maybe have him and stills do sprints down the sidelines til Revis knees give out.
The formula to beating the Jets MUST be a simple one....BE WHO WERE ARE!!!! And by that, I mean the team we've been for the last two games. And this is where attitude comes into play, from the coaching staff down to the players. A thought that occurs to me is sometimes I believe the Dolphins have tried over the years to overthink planning for the next game, adjusting this, adjusting that, etc... I despise the Patriots...I HATE the Patriots but I give credit where credit is due...they are who they are and they do what they do and they're going to keep doing it until you stop them. We've had tendencies over the years not to do that. To me this is simple....keep doing what we've been doing....run the ball, dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball...make THEM adjust to us
Not sure this Jets game is a guaranteed win. Divisional games are always potentially tougher than regular ones, we only have to look back to last year to see how a horrible Jets team still managed to stomp all over us. I sincerely hope that the Dolphins will go into this game with their heads engaged and ready not just to win, but to force their will upon the Jets. This game matters. If the Dolphins can't learn to beat the teams they should be beating, to capitalize on weakness, especially in the division, then nothing will change. If Revis turns back the clock and Leonard continues to play at a high level the Jets defense could prove to be an obstacle.
While I agree with the idea you're expressing, the Pats are a horrible example. They've been successful b/c they switch who they are at will. Some games they pound you with the run and some games they pass 20 times in a row. They're the most adaptable team in the league.
This might be the perfect game to try a good dose of read option runs. I think the Jets are going to be so focused on stopping Ajayi that they'll take their eyes off Tannehill.
