MADDEN 09 Master Thread MERGED x 15 (renamed too lol)

Its there you have to start a game to download them though.

Just go to quick game, download the rosters and leave.

 

I've never played Madden before. Is it worth getting in to with this game, or should I wait until next year?

 

Its only going to get more and more complex and more and more features. Best to get in and learn while you can. No telling what next year will have in store. Each year kind of builds on the next. Or if you wanna get your fundies down, you could always cop an old copy for like 10-15 bucks and get your weight up. But...why do that when you can join in the fun. No better way to get better than to play other people.

 

How does a person who knows so much about football not play Madden?

Someone on here said start a game (like a quick game) and that is when it will ask you for the update. If that doesn't work I would just get online and check there.

Plus buy it for PS3 we need more people in our online league.

 

well, you gotta start somewhere.

i gotta mess around with the settings a lil bit, but as of right now, im a little disappointed. i'm thinking college is way more realistic. like in madden, if i run ronnie in an iso, a DT will literally fly across the line of scrimmage 7 yards to make a play. its almost as if the defenders are magnetized to the runners... and will be 9 feet away and then literally "latch" on to a runner. in college, if the guy with the ball is faster, superior, etc... and he gets the corner, he's gone. if you're not by the runner, you're not getting him...which is ummm realistic? so i have to give it some more time, but thats my early observation. running is weak, control is weak as a ball carrier, and thats really the game for me.

 

Gamefly is sending me 09 for the PS3 as we speak.

I'd like to think the latter is the cause of the former.

Anyway, I went ahead and bought it for the PS3. Apparently I suck at pass protection and am only slightly better at run defense. Oh well.

Starting a quick game isn't downloading a roster update.

Yeah, okay, I figured it out. The instructions in this thread aren't very clear.

Sign in to EA Online, then go to Online -> Play Now -> Unranked. You'll be matched up with someone and the game will check your roster; if an update is needed, download one. It'll ask if you want to save your current roster, which is a useless feature IMO.

Also, it looks like Dan Carpenter isn't in the game. Can't boot Feely yet. Pennington is a free agent.

I'm really surprised with EA's laziness. The roster update just puts Favre on the Jets.

Well yeah actually they probably are.

 

So when I got NCAA 09 on Wii I was really scared because honestly it sucked ***. Madden is great though, the graphics might not be as good as a PS3 or a 360 but they are way better than a PS2. Fun game.

 

so...if you go online and d/l rosters today...then when you start a franchise, favre will be on the jets? then throughout the season when updates come out, if u d/l them, how do you apply them to your franchise? (for example...pennington on dolphins, ricky's rating going up, carpenter being our kicker...etc)

or can you not?

Phin-o-rama, if you have a Bluetooth headset, just pair it with your PS3. If not, buy SOCOM Confrontation when it comes out later this year; free Bluetooth headset in the box.

Is it just me, or are the announcers in this game horrible? Collinsworth sounds like his usual annoying self, which is fine; but whoever the play by play guy is sounds robotic, like a guy reading a script in a recording studio. Hmm. Wonder why.

NCAA's commentary is so much better, even if Lee Corso's script is maybe one page long.

 

You would have to restart your franchise.

Once a franchise is started the "base" roster is then linked to the franchise. The "base" roster only refers to the roster that is currently loaded to the game upon creation of the franchise. You could user control all teams and implement changes manually, but that would be a pain IMO.

I would say get the new roster, and then manually adjust any changes you think there should be before starting your franchise (like I will make sure Pennington and Bess are phins). You can also create any players you want, like Carpenter.

Just played a game and I must say that the game does look deep. I'm completely lost. The 360's lb and rb are so foreign to me. Since when is anything but "A" speed burst? The game says pull the r-trigger for speed. Do I hold it? Do I press it repeatedly?

However the in game interface looks and plays good. Still struggling to pick some of it up.

The game is very fast paced. Maybe I'm just to playing MLB which is slower paced.

I can't stop the offense. Granted, I was the phins... I'm a pretty good defender and I'm blown away as to how awful this games D feels. I had 08 for the orig. Xbox. Don't know if Next Gen madden has played this way or if it's re hauled.

The final was 30-14. I had 3 turnovers. Threw a pick, fumbled with McCown on a QB sneak, and another on a kickoff.

I scored two tds in the 4h. A slant to Ginn (after running wild with Brown/Ricky) and a 68 yard bomb to Ginn on man to man.

I'll eventually grasp the offense, it's the defense I'm worried about.

So far I'm disappointed with how different this game feels from the years past. I feel very lost.

edit: Oh and I don't like the play selection. It feels odd.

 

That is something that I am curious about as well as this will be my first we'll say current gen sports game that I've played besides demos. I know that 06 and 07 were clunky compared to the PS2 and Xbox versions but I thought that was fixed in 08. Who knows though.

Also Clark why didn't you get Madden 09 on the original Xbox since this will probably be the last major game (if not any game) released on the system?

I think you have to get use to the 360 version is all, I had to go through that same thing when I was use to PS2 Madden...

 

I didn't have 2008 on a console (PC) but it seems like they fixed up punt returning a bit this year. I like it.

 

Anyone besides me having serious trouble playing defense? I'm having a decent bit of trouble with run defense, but pass coverage just gives me fits.

 

Just lost a quick play match to the Jets 28-14. I haven't got the new roster yet so I played with McCown

Pennington got knocked out with an injury (oh sweet irony), and Clemmens ripped me apart for 3 TDs, 2 to Cotcherry and 1 to Coles.

I haven't played Madden in a few years, so my skills are pretty much trash at this point.

 

if you're using the Dolphins, that's the reason. They just plain suck.

 

Haven't gotten that far yet. I'm referring to the My Skill simulator.

I play cornerback like a guard.

 

The rewind feature is the STUPIDEST thing ever created for a video game..

Could you imagine if there were such a thing as a REWIND flag in the REAL NFL? The Patriots wouldnt have any super bowl rings..

and somehow they still haven't figured out how to keep players from teleporting.
