EDIT - Found the stats. The Jets came into this game as the #1 Defense against the Rush. Here's how the Dolphins fared: Dolphins against Jets / Season Avg. Big ups to Matt Darr.
Also keep in mind they did a pretty good job stopping the run for a good part of the 1st half. And then.....we gashed the duck out of them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The J Train is definitely better as the game goes on. The opposing defenses clearly get tired and have trouble with him later.
He's getting good blocking, and he's capitalizing on it, his style suits the blocking scheme very well. It was impressive that we ran when we had to, and they knew it, late in the game.
29 pass attempts, 32 rush attempts. Gase doesn't abandon the run even when it was struggling today. Same thing happened vs Buffalo.
We do however need to feature more playaction on first down earlier in the game. Just from the perspective of facing a hard charging defensive line. I wwas very surprised we did not adapt to that early in the game after it was apparent the Jets were full bore attacking the run action. We could have also ran a reverse just as an attempt to keep them a little more honest. We must add that dimension to the offense more than we did today. A good pass catching TE would be an asset.
From 2000-2015, the Fins averaged 135 yards per game during their first game following the bye, so this was right on target. Impressive, given the Jets quality of defense and what they'd been giving up, but this was about my expectation.
This is the formula that they NEED to stick with. Tannehill could absolutely lead this team if they throw it under 30 times a game and keep running. Yes, I understand there will be times Tannehill is called to throw it 35-40 times, but for the most part they need to stick to this current game plan. The run sets up the pass and it keeps the defense honest. I'm loving the offense the last 3 weeks as it seems they've finally figured out what works best for the team and for Tannehill.
What was so impressive is Ajayi had like -9 yards after his first three carries. I thought it was going to be a long day in the run game. We kept grinding and never got away from it and we ended up gashing them at times. It's so nice to finally have a coach who doesn't just abandon the run at the first sign of trouble. Perseverance pays off.
It's going to interesting when we aren't at home to see if this continues. I'm wondering how much is the team and how much is the weather.
