Absolutely no new info in that article so I hesitate in making a new thread in it.. But there is speculation in there that says if Henne can outplay Beck and the coach feels they have a capable backup on the roster, this is good for Beck as it means they will release McCown. If not, they'll keep McCown around. Interesting thought.

Although its a bit counter intuitive, it does follow the logic.

If the rookie outplays you, we'll keep you. If you outplay the rookie, we'll cut you.

But when you think about it, they don't want Henne to be the backup unless he's ready to play in week one. Tall order, but he might be able to get it done.

And that would be a dream scenario for all of us. CP starts (caretaker for offense), Henne develops (for however long CP can stay healthy or one season, whichever comes first), Beck works to become Henne's long term backup.

Its nice to see the FO have a well thought out and reasoned plan in place. That would never have been the case with the past three knuckleheads we had running the show.

The key is Pennington staying healthy long enough for one of the young ones to be ready to play. Not saying it won't happen.

You're right. That's the key. Hopefully CP and Ronnie can stay healthy for once.

The key is the contingency plan if CP gets hurt. If CP stays healthy, what we do with Beck is a non issue.

If CP gets hurt (and IMO the coaches have to plan that he will) the coaches have to decide if they want Henne or a vet (McCown). If Henne is ready, they keep Beck. If Henne isn't ready, the keep McCown.
