There's no such thing as a guarantee in this league (unless the question is, are the Patriots cheating?). San Fran are having a horrible, horrible, horrible.... horrible year. We should all be glad we aren't Niners fans right now. Their last loss to the Patriots means that the 49ers are officially out of playoff contention. It's that bad. Still, even a snake with it's head cut off can still kill you, and during last week's game San Francisco hung around within three points of the Patriots for almost the entire game. Cue Niners fans... Then in the 4th quarter Brady sliced them apart and demolished any hope of an improbable uspet. That must have felt something like how the Rams fans felt on Sunday After the loss, Chip Kelly came out saying how he couldn't pinpoint one area on the team that needed fixing, and that they were often just a half second away from sacking Brady and stopping the Patriots. Sound familiar? I'm glad we've been on the other side of that story recently. Still, the story isn't over, and even though the Niners are wounded in the secondary, their receivers played poorly, and their season is now more about whether the coach or GM will be fired (or both), there will still be a football team on the field on Sunday. A bunch of guys who might just be fed up and hungry and wanting to win something for a bit of self-respect. It's hard to say the Niners match up favourably against the Dolphins in any area, however, the Dolphins OL might still be significantly banged up, and as we saw against another poor team in LA, they can struggle. Our LB's and secondary too, still have issues with tackling at times. Add in the 'any given Sunday' mantra and for all the signs that this should be a walkover, maybe, just maybe, the Niners fans could once again believe there's a chance. I mean, they shouldn't have been able to hang with the Patriots all that time - but they did. A crushing blow will be dealt on Sunday in Miami - the only question is will it work out where Miami size it up, come in riding high and feeling indestructable... Or will the Dolphins continue to deliver and send the Niners to look for gold elsewhere? So what are your thoughts - guaranteed Phins win - or might we end up with that sick feeling, rolling around on the floor?
I think this is a chance for the fans to help the team with energy, if it comes out that this game is not sold out, I would bet on the niners to cover, if the fans show up and act different than the norm, then I will take the Phins.. New stadium, time to set a new prescedent for the home field advantage...if that's possible for this franchise.. I'd be doing a hard push by thhe promo team for this game...this team will need a lot of energy coming off the two week west coast trip and the emotionally draining two wins. So get to the rock, stand when we're on defense, and be loud, like the screens say.
The Fins are currently a 7.5 point favorite, which is about as big a number as we've gotten lately. As you said, the 49ers are not just bad, they're historically bad on defense, on pace to allow the 4th most points in league history, and the second most yards in league history. They have averaged allowing almost 35 points a game over the last nine, and have held only two opponents under 30 after Week 1. There are no guarantees in the NFL, but if the Fins drop this game, against this awful team coming from the West Coast to play a 1pm game, at home, then it will be one of the biggest let downs in recent Miami history. Remember when they lost in Week 1 of 2003 to a Houston team in their second year of existance? It would be worse.
The biggest thing, regardless of records is that this is a west coast team traveling for an early game. Teams who do this historically don't do well. That's the biggest thing. Hopefully Ajayi has over 100 yards and keeps their defense on the field. Our defense could use a game where they don't see 60 plays.
Has a running back ever had three 200 yd games in a season? If so, what's the record for 200 yd games in a season? Anyone know?
Earl Campbell had 4 according to this in 1980: http://www.nfl.com/history/randf/records/indiv/rushing
Yeah, heres the Profootballreference page for his 1980 season. He had 1076 yards over a six game stretch that included three 200 yard games! And his team only scored more than 23 once in all of that. ended up with 1934 yards on the season. http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/43/43c87497f480fd4b3200c4af0ca7f5fbeb752fde9df58c6005d299d71f90a8b9.jpg
This is the NFL. There is no such thing as a guaranteed win. This game has the looks of a trap game for Miami if they're not careful.
Hmm.. somehow a different link is pasted than you wanted haha! But yes you're right. Here's the link: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CampEa00/gamelog/1980/
You don't win 5 in a row by looking ahead. I fully believe Gase will have them ready to play this week. Lets Rock.
Yeah, if this team has proven anything over the last decade it's that they can lose to anyone. While I think the 49ers are a terrible team, Miami always seems to suck against running QBs. Plus there's always the chance the team goes into the game with that "Guaranteed Win" attitude which almost always results in a guaranteed loss.
Delete this thread asap, before someone on the 49ers see it and use it for the inevitable bait to use as a curse against our franchise!!! Honestly, Rich hit it on the head. We need to run the ball all day long. Keep Tannehill clean, take pressure off defense early, and ride the 80 degree weather in Miami, with a WC team traveling for a 1pm eastern game. We do that and we have a great chance. Get caught looking to Baltimore and the season is as good as done.
No way they should feel like this is a lock for a win. This team shouldnt have that MO at all! We have had so many close games where we could have won or lost on 1-2 plays. Some say we got lucky in a few of those games and some say we choked. Focus on ONE game not the playoffs, not the win streak, or the record. One week at a time. We need to fix this Oline badly though we can NOT keep band-aiding and patching it like we have been. We need to invest in one this offseason.
I watched Patriots/49ers. 49ers are not a very good football team -- just lacking talent -- and they do not match up well with Miami due to their ineffective play from their outside WRs. However, they played the Patriots hard and Carlos Hyde is dangerous. I very much like our chances at home, especially since 49ers fans are unlikely to travel well when their team is 1-9, but then again, we almost blew it vs the Browns.
We don't know how the individual matchups will play out. They have nothing to lose. Classic trap game...
Dolphins having spent two weeks on the Left coast will be happy to be home in their own beds. "another poor team in LA, they can struggle". While their offense is not much to talk about their defense is sick. Don't agree with that statement. Kaperdicks ability to run its what they have to be most worried about IMO. Kiko when sent on blitzs seems to get caught in the wrong gap or the RB hit's the right one because they read him correctly. That's when both of the large runs occurred in last game (and others). They need to be able to just rush 4 and use the LB's in more of a spy role. I really hope they hit that traitorous bastard as many times as possible. Instead of not kneeling, he can lie flat on his back. F U Kap.
I think given the injuries along the offensive and the way we had to grind to win last prevents us from doing that. A lot of ****ty tape to watch and it's hard to feel good about 52 minutes a semi crap in certain phases as a player. If we had blown the Rams out, then yes I'd say so. I could be wrong but a win like last week's tends to keep a team going.
The good news is that gase said his offense sucked last week and the game was won by the defense by keeping us in it, so to me that means he will emphasize and demand better execution offensively..
It's funny, you called the optimists here unrealistic yet you're not basing a single thing on our 2016 team. Gase has said twice this week to reporters that he's only focused on San Fran and he sees a team that can beat us, so I'm not sure what that has to do with the last decade or anything else you said. With that said, there's no such thing as a guarantee in the NFL, but we should beat the crap out of the 49ers. It's two teams headed in completely different directions.
Obviously there's no such thing as a guaranteed win in the NFL. The talent level is just too razor thin between teams. IMO the difference is more often culture related. Most games in the NFL are lost rather than won. The successful teams just seem to not make as many mistakes. Their good at the fundamentals. They don't get gashed on defense or blow coverages as often. They don't let pass rushers get free hits on the QB or RB b/c they blocked the wrong or run poor patterns or miss open guys. If you watch the NE/SF game that's what you saw. It was a 3 point game into the second half and then SF made a few of those mistakes as they've done all year and then they're down big. It's also been what we've seen out of Miami for far too long. They'd always find a way to lose. But it's also the difference I see now. I see better attention to detail and fewer mistakes. Not zero mistakes, that's obviously an impossible standard, but fewer. I see that as a culture change which I credit to the new staff. So I don't think it's fair to expect this team to lose b/c past teams under other staffs failed. Too many variables are different. That strikes me more as a symptom of battered fan syndrome than a true reflection of the team we're seeing on the field.
It's true but Gase seems to have the team believing in the one game at a time thing. So I don't think they will overlook the 49ers. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
