yeah looks like Zelda is delayed (maybe it was never confirmed for March, but I really thought it was).

March was informed speculation based on Nintendo saying it would be out in time for the series' 30th anniversary fiscal year. March 2017 is the end of the 30th anniversary fiscal year, and is also the supposed launch date of the Switch for the same reason ("it'll be out this fiscal year.") So, put one and one together, you get a March 2017 launch date for the Switch with Zelda as a launch title. Looks like that isn't the case now, though.

There's also rumors of the Switch being sub $250 -- Seems highly unlikely to me... But I would like that a whole lot.

Would make sense if it is supposed to fill the handheld and console market for Nintendo.

Their messaging seems to indicate its not supposed to fill the mobile games roll. They even refer to it as the Nintendo Switch Home Gaming Console. The only reason I can think for that is the battery isn't where people need it to be for it to be their mobile console.

Looks like the Wii U version has some frame rate issues. Could still be ironed out in development, but probably not.

Something about the way Reggie explains things makes me want to punch him in the face. I really hate that guy. That being said, this is a pretty good look at the switch. And I really wish people would stop saying "Anything you can see back there, you can go to". That was impressive in 2005 when Oblivion did it. Now it's just how games are.

Reggie does have a punchable face, doubly so because of his treatment of the Earthbound/Mother games.

But I disagree about the "anything you can see back there" thing. It's still impressive because game development is so focused on creating set pieces these days. I sure as hell can't go anywhere I want in The Last of Us, for instance.

yeah but you know what I mean. As far as open world games go... GTA5, Skyrim, Witcher 3. Going to the thing in the background is kind of normal. Sure it's new for Zelda, but that shouldn't make it special.

Open world games are still limited, though. GTA games take place on islands, for instance. To me, it's special for Zelda because it finally fulfills the promise of the very first game: "here is an area, FIGURE IT OUT, BUDDY." It is notable that the very first footage they ever showed of Breath of the Wild is an exact recreation of art from Zelda 1.

Anyway, new screenshots of a Switch exclusive game, Seasons of Heaven, can be found here. Looks gorgeous to me.

Likely. But how many times has that happened with a Nintendo game? Pretty much never.

For a Zelda game to have an expansive world instead of bounded arenas is nothing short of system-selling.

I read two seperate places that Nintendo will not cut the price of the Wii U. I guess it will be up to retailers to take the loss and sell them on clearance when they choose to.

They've been super stubborn with the price of the Wii U. Not sure what the deal was there. I also don't know what the cost of manufacturing a Wii U is. Even still, dropping to $199 would have certainly driven sales. And selling at $199 is better than it rotting on a shelf.

Nintendo doesn't discount, the end. They sell it for what they think it's worth. And there is certainly $250 worth of enjoyment to be wrung from the Wii U.

Also it looks like Nintendo has patented a Switch VR headset. But the primary source is The Verge, so who knows.

But this is the very definition of stubborn lol

While you might be right about there being $250 worth of enjoyment, the consumer obviously doesn't. Hence it being the worst selling Nintendo console. Some say it's because of bad naming or marketing. Some say it was lack of horsepower.

Doesn't matter. Lower the price, sell units. It's business. Them sticking to a price just because that's what they think is a stubborn stance to take. And I think a dumb one.

My Ambassador 3DS says otherwise (I'd have rather had the cheaper price than games).

Nintendo is not desperate to clear inventory of a thing they stopped manufacturing months ago. They'll let stock dwindle down over time.

I feel like the complaint here is that you're looking to swing a Wii U on clearance, and you can't find one. Just get the thing, it's worth MSRP.

Dude I've had one for ages. It's not a complaint. I feel like it's dumb business. The thing sold worse than the original Xbox. I'm just saying they could move a lot more units if they lowered the price... Which would sell more software... Which would have made them more money. I know Nintendo isn't hurting for money but I still don't see how settling for smaller sales just because you feel the thing is worth $250 is smart.

We've had a similar discussion about Wii games in the past too. I just see it as weird, but its obviously the way they do business. If they're going to charge full price for games that came out eight years ago for a console thats now triply obsoleted, not dropping the price on the Wii U isn't surprising.

They have no pressing need to liquidate stock. Demand is about constant, supply just declined.

Supposedly, according to Switch preorder material, Breath of the Wild will be released in March 2017, alongside the Switch.

Going off of the Digital Foundry spec info I really feel like the price will be sub $300. Which is awesome because that's about my "Buy just because" price.

To add to what Desides posted above about price point. A Reddit rumor has popped up regarding a Best Buy employee saying the system will sell for $249.99.

    Original post by employee:

Reddit research post lending some credibility to claim:

Definitely very much a rumor but at that price point Nintendo could enter into the "buy it just because" realm Mor already mentioned. Pretty sweet price point if true.

I'm not buying it at launch. Probably later in the year when Odyssey drops. I'll just play BotW on Wii U first.

it's probably the weakest launch lineup in history. I guess the Wii was similar with Twilight Princess. But that had Wii Sports. This 1,2, Switch thing just doesn't seem fun to me. I am kind of annoyed how much time they spent on that JoyCon crap. They somehow found a way to make their least gimmicky console in a decade seem gimmicky. Go figure.

I'm REALLY hoping it has a healthy Virtual Console lineup at launch. Mario Maker (even just a VC port) would also make me super happy.

I wasn't going to be buying one anyways, but those controllers are bizarrely small. I get that they could work well for kids, but for adults, they seem like a weird choice.
