Hi everyone. Thought I'd throw this out, as at the start of the season everyone seemed to be dead against the trade. Was just wondering what people thought about the trade now through 12 weeks of the season. A thumbs up or a thumbs down? Makes it easier that Tunsil fell to us I know.
I was on board with the trade 100% from the get go. We had a TON of holes to fill and it got us two decent day one starters at 2 positions of catastrophic-level necessity at the time. It's paying off big time so far and I don't see how anyone could be against it on the whole, atleast at this point. We are starting to get closer to Buffalo Kiko, which if consistent, would turn a sweet deal into a home run on it's own, and although Maxwell is getting an obscene amount of flags, he's still something like top 15 in the league last I checked. Pretty sweet. Tunsil was icing on the cake for sure. A huge win for a team that doesn't seem to run into them very often.
The Eagles were discarding two players they didn't want to pay, for performance and/or health reasons. They got to trade up with us for fairly cheap. That said, the gamble has paid off for BOTH teams, as Philly has a QB to build around, and our season has been turned around by some timely plays on defense PLUS a stud LT/LG at #13. Everything looks better in the middle of a win streak. After edit: I agree with dWreck in that we had so many holes to fill, and pretty much had to roll the dice when given the chance to get two defensive starters.
Regardless of how well they played -- as long as they started -- it was a good trade for us. We got two starters to drop from 8 to 13.
I really hated this trade. Thought Maxwell was just cashing a paycheck and Alonso would be hurt immediately after the plane landed in Miami. I was wrong, and I apologize to M. Tannenbaum.
Tunsil was the best part of this trade, but even if Kiko and Max are just one year rentals, it was worth it.
I thought it was a good trade from jump street. I felt that Kiko and Maxwell both were in schemes in Philly that didn't allow them to play to their strengths. Add into it the fact that Kiko wasn't really healthy until midseason last year and it really looked like there was some solid potential there for us at positions of serious need. Then as the draft happened we ended up with a guy many thought could have been the number 1 pick in the draft at one point. I mean seriously? 5 spots in the draft for 3 Starters? I'll do that every day and twice on Sundays as they say! And it was a good trade for Philly too. They were able to parlay that into their QB of the future. Quite possibly one of the best trades I've ever seen for both parties involved.
As a side note, Maxwell despite his penalties has been playing very well since his benching. That pass defense at the end of the SF game was a thing of beauty!
I was not sold on the trade at the time. I do not recall hating it. So far it has worked out really well for us.
I'd say it was more mixed. I didn't like trading down in the draft but that bong video and Tunsil's drop saved that part. If that very unique circumstance doesn't happen,Tunsil doesn't drop and we ended with a far lesser talent then people would be less happy about the trade. As for the players themselves, I was mixed. I loved the Kiko part. I saw him as an upgrade and he had a great contract. I was reserving judgment on Maxwell. I hated that contract, but I understood the good player in a bad scheme argument. If the same players and contracts had been acquired through some other means I would have really liked it. Overall, I was against the trade despite not minding the talent or the positions we acquired b/c I didn't want to trade down, but I have to admit it worked out. I would say that it's generally a bad policy to prior to the draft trade back out of a spot where a premium player has a possibility to be available to one where he's unlikely to be available. That's how we missed out on Randy Moss.
