Also, if you guys haven't figured out the infinite sprint, it's a game changer. It's not a cheat

I've played for 8 hours and am at level 16. I'm glad that I'm taking things slowly, because at least for me, the recommended levels for quests are MUCH lower than I feel they should be. Anything remotely close to my own level, and I'm barely surviving. Really enjoying it though, and I'll skip back and forth between the main story and the sidequests the whole time if it'll let me, as I do with almost all RPGs.

I ended up stumbling upon a level 52 boss in a dungeon in an area near the start of the game and getting killed instantly. Not fun, lol, especially since the area was otherwise populated by very low level monsters. I'll....try back later on.

Just so I know if I should avoid it, was it near a mine? I ask because I was about to head there after I finish my current quest.

Only dangerous spot I ran into so far was on a night hunt, I was like level 9. Two lvl 15 fireballs appeared and then a level 30 something Iron Giant (or something) appeared after I was engaged with them. I could have eventually took the fireballs down, but man I had to run as fast as I could away from that situation to escape the giant.

I am like 5/6 hours into the game (counting training). If not for watching Kingsglaive, I could easily see being lost story-wise. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit too (considering it is a video game movie), so I am glad I watched it first.

Yes, I had a quest that ended at the enterance to the mine, so I thought I'd explore. Then after I cam across the monster, I realized that it autopopulated a level 50 quest in my que for it. I wouldn't recommend going after it right now, lol.

I think the iron giant is the demon things they warn you about at night.

It's funny, when you travel at night it becomes like retro final fantasy with their random pop-up battles :)

I did my first night hunt yesterday, and as I was walking the 0.25 miles to where the target was, one of the giants started to climb out of the ground. Scared the crap out of me, lol. I ran away as fast as I can. I've gotten very used to opening the map and warping back to the car after those.

The other big change is how a battle with one group of enemies can turn into a free for all as others wander in. I was going after a group of four monsters for a hunt that should have been no big deal when a bunch of Imperial Soldiers show up and it becomes a huge battle. And then, a pack of wolf-like monsters show up and I have to deal with them too. Used nearly every potion in my supply.

For reference, FFX sold 6.6m copies during its lifetime on the PS2, while FFXII sold 5.2m. FFXIII sold 3m on the PS3, about 2m of that in Japan. So, if XV can build on those 5m numbers, wow. Square can feel comfortable getting back to work on more for the future!

Uncharted 4 sold 2.7m copies earlier this year, as the #1 game of 2016 on the PS4.

So, I wrecked the Regalia. Took a turn too fast and ran into the guard rail. The car was covered in dents, the windshield was broken, and shortly afterwards, it slowed down and stopped. I warped back to Hammerhead and paid Cindy 500 gil to fix it.

Didn't even know we had a game forum lol. I'm on PS4 and a huge gamer / wannabe streamer as well. Anyway pro tip to make your life easier. Change your attire to the casual outfit without jacket so your character is wearing white. I have lost site of Noctius more than a dozen times in fights till I did this. Made life much easier in battles!

I need to learn this endless sprint tip!!

25 hours in. Noctis is at level 40, and the others are close behind. Just started the mission that bridges the game from Chapter 6 to Chapter 7, though I don't want to push through the story too quickly.

-I've decided that wait mode is for me. Active is just too chaotic, especially when the characters get hidden in fauna.
-Magic is way too complicated, but I've been able to find it useful in some situations, especially against large groups.
-I have absolutely zero idea how to use the royal weapons properly. I end up just killing myself.
-The sections of the game that require you to use stealth are done poorly, and are extremely difficult and frustrating.
-The game really, really wants you to use Noctis to warp around the field and bounce from here to there. Its not my style, and I'm trying, but its really, really akward. Especially dodging when the icon doesn't present itself.
-Noctis gets hurt way, way, too easily. I use so many potions. And poor Prompto might as well be helpless. I wish there there was a command I could use to instruct him to stay back from the action in battle.

Save them for bosses. They drain your HP and are overkill for regular mooks.

Keep in mind that you have 3 other guys that need to stay in cover as well, so your movements need to factor that in.

I have this problem too. Prompto has very low HP, but he's a ranged character, so that kind of makes sense. And Noctis getting hurt way too easily is because you're just hammering away on combos. I do it too, but that's not going to work. Use warping to land a hit and knock the enemy off its feet, jump over or dodge behind it, get a link strike going. Build your tech bar and have one of the guys use a special technique. You should be blitzing the enemy at all times.

This is a game that will be much better with mouse controls.

When I have a warp point that I can hang from, thats how I play with Noctis. If there isn't, I try and get behind the enemies and hit them from behind as often as possible, but I get knocked around a lot, especially in fights vs several large ones. And believe me, I'm relying heavily on special techniques. I've unlocked a power one for each of the three guys, and I use them as often as I can to knock out an enemy.

I also SO wish that I could set up Prompto to be a white mage of sorts, and heal the rest of us the whole battle. Thats how I always set up a party in RPGs if the game allows it. Its a very confusing choice to make the only controlled character in battle also responsible for keeping all four guys alive, especially when he's also at least the second best fighter.

I really don't have a problem with this. I warp all the time, and love it frankly. He also don't get hurt if you phase and block whenever the enemy makes an attack. I mean obviously you can't just hammer on people unfettered and expect no damage.

LOL, well I guess I'm just really bad at it. I rarely play any other games that work this way. The closest would be AC, and I don't block or dodge well in those either. Fighting one large enemy and blocking or dodging is one thing. I can do my best and it works sometimes. Fighting six or seven, and its all just a mass of confusion for me. I just try to find which one has the least HP and kill it, and then move on to the next one.

That's your problem—"as often as possible." You're spamming attack chains. You can do a couple of hits, then you need to get out before the counterattack hits. Most enemies can hit backwards or spin around quickly. You need to keep moving at 90 degree angles around the target.

Large clusters of enemies = use magic.

If anyone wanted to get ahead of the game and preorder the remaster of FFXII, you can lock it in at $42.49 right now at Amazon. Personally, I'm going to wait because the release date is still up in the air, and I might not buy it as soon as it comes out if I'm in the middle of something else. I did notice a card in the FFXV box that said XII was coming in 2017 though, so they probably have a plan for the release that they just haven't shared yet.

That price is a typical preorder/full price discount for Prime members. There's nothing special about it. As an example, FFXV is $48, not $60, for Prime members.

And XII HD was announced as a 2017 release when it was unveiled.

I've always pronounced it as "RUH-MUH"... not sure why. Ifrit is "IF-REET". The one that really bothers me... Tidus from FF10. For me it's "TIE-DUSS"... Everyone else (which is probably right) goes "TEE-DUSS"

    TEE-duss is the official pronunciation.

I just hit chapter 6. I'm taking my time doing as many sidequests as possible, as it seems like chapter 7 is going to take place in another region.

Just a hint, since I went through that the last couple of days, if you like:

Once you hit chapter 6, it feels like the game is going to take you away, but its split up into several sections where you keep getting the chance to pause before you finally go on. However, after that, things move a lot faster in the story than I expected that they would. Once you hit chapter 8, you may want to take your time and not move the story along much further for a while if there are things that you want to do/see/explore.

I'm so surprised that they took the beastiary out of the game. I can look at it in my guide, but I can't remember the last FF that didn't have one that you can explore in game. Always so useful.

Very welcome. I like to use the tags just in case. Some people like to play completely blind to whats coming in the game, and I want to respect that.

After that point, I moved forward much faster than I thought I would in the story. I'm worried I'm nearing the end. But, at the same time, I'm only about halfway down the list of weapons and other items that you can get, and there are lots of enemies in the guide that I haven't seen yet, so there may be a lot left from where I go to. I decided to back out and do a lot of sidequests before moving on, either way.

    So based on that:

I've read that the main story is extremely short. Almost disappointingly short compared to previous games

It seems like it, from what I can tell so far. The game doesn't stretch things out with story and cutscenes the way newer western RPGs like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition do. Those games have as much story per mission, and sometimes sidequest, as FFXV does per chapter. I wish that there was a lot more dialogue and depth, but it is what it is. I follow, as a long time player. Someone new to the series might be very disappointed. I'll leave my final judgement until the end. Either way, they've built a great foundation that they can move from for more games in the future.

Thats all extremely interesting. It would give the game real replay value, which I wasn't sure it would have. If they were to add secondary characters as real party members alone, that would be a big plus. I'm interested in almost all of the bullet points though.

Hopefully the mid-term update about additional story affects the entire game and adds much-needed explanation and exposition, not just "let's add a couple cutscenes here and there to tie up loose ends."

Their method of story telling is interesting. Seems to be one major cutscene/event per chapter. When you think about the number of chapters, that's not a whole lot... especially compared to FFX and FFXII where there was a cutscene every 15 steps.
