Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso broke his thumb on Sunday and had surgery on it Monday, but that’s not keeping him from joining his teammates at practice this week. Alonso suited up for practice with a cast on his right hand to protect the thumb and went through the stretching period with the rest of the team. He did not appear to be doing much else during what Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald called a “light practice” and coach Adam Gase said that the team will be “taking it slow” with Alonso. Gase also said that the thumb may not be the main stumbling block to Alonso’s presence in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. He’s also dealing with a hamstring injury that the coach indicated is a bigger concern in regard to his status at the moment. Mike Hull would get the start in place of Alonso in a game that the Dolphins need to win if they’re going to avoid following up a six-game winning streak with a second straight loss.
Kiko turned out to be a good trade for Tannenbaum, but I really hope we do something serious about the LB (especially ILB) position in the draft/FA next year, specifically to stop the run. Kiko just isn't that good against the run and we're currently 3rd worst in the run defense department (both yards/game and Y/A). My personal preference would be to draft a tackling machine like Reuben Foster. Who knows.. let Kiko roam more and he might be even better.
I wanna double up within the first 3 rounds at LB.....give me a first rounder like Cunningham or Bamas LB...then a Ben Boulware from Clemson in 2/3.....bring that swag back and monsters in the middle paired with Kiko, could be deadly with our front attack!
TBH, he's been out of position on many plays the last few weeks. As for the thumb, it broke because it was up his a$$ during that time period. I do like the trade though, happy to see he's staying relatively healthy. What does his contract look like by the way?
