I thought ACLs did not self heal, therefore he will require surgery at some point, either now or when he comes back and tears the thing completely ala RGIII way back when. I don't think the healing time frame is any worse though if he fully tears it

I just got in from playing golf and decided to check on here to see the latest on Tannehill.
It is great to see that he won't need surgery and should be healthy enough to play next season and might even be available if the Dolphins make it to the second round of this years playoffs.

While I have been one of those fans who hasn't always been a Tannehill believer, I have certainly never questioned his toughness. I don't think there are very many people who could take the hit he did yesterday and not suffer more damage than he did.

I am glad to read that it isn't more serious and I look forward to his return if the Dolphins make it to the second round of the playoffs or next season if they don't.

Great news. Especially if this team gets to the playoffs and he can come back. Even if we dont, it's nice to know that full participation in the offseason program is available.

Dont think he comes back this sunday but hope the following sunday hes good to go after rehab and a brace on that knee. Even if hes purely in the pocket i rather have him than Moore out there.

Good news is the ravens are losing. Dont like seeing the patriots win but our shot is the wildcard and the ravens losing helps

Gase will not rush him back unless Moore just can't cut it.

I don't think you're correct on this one. If what you're saying is true than Tannehill might as well just play this week, tear it completely and then get surgery.
It is known that there are many people who recover from knee sprains to full health without surgery. If you're assumption was true, then everyone would need surgery and that is just not the case.

Has there been a report on which 'Grade' of sprain it is? Is it Grade 2? Grade 2 sprain, from what I've read, takes a fair bit of healing and playing him at any point in the next 2 months would greatly endanger his health for 2017.

Any word on the second opinion Tannehill was getting?

Even though it's not the ACL, let me just share my experience with a knee injury.

After slipping during a basketball scrimmage, my left knee cap came out of joint and came all the way to the side of my knee. It was a tear of the patellar tendon.
I tried to walk it off after a day and it was feeling better and seemed like it would be alright. The orthopedic doctor I saw, for my piece of mind, did not agree. He put me in a non-motion brace, with instructions not to bend it at all for 12 weeks. I only made it 9 cuz it felt so good after 8 so I started moving it and rehabbing it and doing all the strengthening exercises and such. Well, it's been a bit of a 'trick-knee' ever since and I wish I had been patient enough to have waited at least a couple more weeks.

If we make the playoffs I guarantee he starts the wildcard game.

With a brace (he'll likely wear one the rest of his career) he should be fine if it's only a sprain
