If they were playing at Indianapolis I'd have an easier time believing this. It's going to be the last regular season home game in Oakland... it will be packed and the crowd will be roudy and loud. Doubt Indy upsets them.
Yeah, this is probably the simplest way to think about it. If we beat either Buffalo or the Patriots and the Broncos lose at least one more, then as far as I can tell we're in.
Holy ****, I just realized Miami can clinch the sixth seed next week in a very realistic scenario. 1. Miami wins @ Buffalo 2. Denver loses @ Kansas City 3. Baltimore loses @ Pittsburgh Puts us at 10-5 and Denver and Baltimore at 8-6.
#3 is unnecessary. #1 and #2 already put us in because we beat Pittsburgh in any tie breaker at 10-6, even 3-way with KC at 10-6 we get in (KC is out in that case). Remember.. if both Pitt and Baltimore go 10-6 Baltimore wins the division.
Yeah that's about right. All it takes is one more win for us (any game) and one more loss by Denver (any game). That's around 50% ish given our opponents.. all the other possibilities are far less likely. Denver totally blew it when they lost to the Titans a week ago. Before that this was another story.
In 2011 Matt Moore started at Buffalo on December 18th. The temperature was 31 degrees, and Buffalo was favored by 1.5 points. Moore was 10 for 20 for 217 yards, 2 TDs, and no INTs. His passer rating was 122.3. He threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall, and a 22-yarder to Anthony Fasano. The Dolphins won that game 30 to 23. Here's to a similar effort next week.
It gets slightly better than that. If we win next week, Denver has to beat the Chiefs and Raiders to take the final slot....and they're still out unless we lose to New England. So if we go 2-0, we're in. If we go 1-1, we're in unless Denver goes 2-0. If we go 0-2, then there's a lot of math involved and we're probably out. In any case, we are in full control of our playoff destiny and that #6 spot.

What's funny also is if we do get in to the playoffs there is a chance we play the south division winner. We would have a real good chance of not only getting into the playoffs but winning at least one game
My God, this team's winning a playoff game sounds like something from another galaxy. I'm not saying it can't happen, it's just been so long that it seems like a foreign concept.
Perhaps a few reminders are in order. We are 1-7 alltime vs Houston. Our winning streak was sparked by an barrassing beat down by the titans. And the game will be on the road. Yeah we have a chance, but it's the playoffs and it will be very difficult. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Yeah that's a real tough one because KC is a game ahead of us. The one half-way realistic scenario is this: we win one more game (any game), KC loses out, and Pittsburgh wins out. We win the tie breaker against KC in that case at 10-6. Of course if we win out it's more likely we get the 5th seed. I'd just assume that if we make the playoffs (and we have a decent chance of this) we're going to face Pittsburgh or the Ravens. We have to learn to win those kinds of games anyway, so bring it on!
I still remember losing the first meeting with Fiedler as QB. I think it knocked us out of the playoffs. I hated Fiedler so much back then. I think I still hate the guy lol
Stands out to me in that game was a deep pass bouncing off one of the worst WR's in Dolphins history James Mcknight's chest and into a Ravens defenders hands.
Ah true, apparently if Miami beats Buffalo and KC beats Denver, then Miami clinches a playoff spot (!!!). But that would also make the 5th seed tougher. Would need to go 11-5 and KC would have to lose to SD, then Dolphins would win 5th seed. But it doesn't matter, we've been so playoff starved we'll take a trip to Pitt or Baltimore. Though we all know a trip to the AFC South would be easier. I guess I'd rather face the Steelers than the Ravens. The Ravens simply own the Dolphins with Flacco playing.
If we beat New England in week 17, I'm not exactly sure I'd want to duck them. We were within one caught pass of overtime in the first game and we dominated that entire second half. So if we win in two weeks, I would really like our chances in the 1st round.
Tell me, how gay are the eagles and the bengals? Each within striking distance to win the game and they blow it. The bengals were absolutely dominating the game and they freaking cave. The eagles go for a two point conversion and fail to let the ravens win. **** cincinatti and philly
Almost every scenario ends with us having to play either the Ravens/Pittsburgh in the WC game and/or NE in the divisional game. Really hard to avoid both. NE still hasn't locked up #1 seed, and the problem is that getting the #5 seed for us tends to push NE to the #2 seed haha! NE can get the #2 seed in only one way: NE loses at least one remaining game and Raiders win out, so us getting to 11-5 to get that #5 seed increases the chances of NE being the #2 seed. However!! There is one very rosy scenario (probably the ideal one): We win out, Raiders win out, KC loses to Denver but beats Chargers. In this scenario we are #5 seed and Raiders are #1 seed. KC plays at Ravens/Pitt, and if Dolphins and Ravens/Pitt win, we play the Raiders.
Current weather forecast: A warmer than normal 40 degrees in Buffalo, maybe some rain. So cold won't be an excuse. Get it done! Their defense is good, but its not that much different from the Jets D. Their run D is worse.
Each time we are in this position... something dramatic happens... i hope with gase it turns out different and we win this sunday... dont want to see any lobster traps
I think it is different with Gase. With him we're finding ways to win as opposed to ways to lose, which has been our hallmark for more than a decade! Now whether that win will be @Buffalo or vs. NE I don't know, but I'm real confident we win at least one of those, and we only need to win one of those (with one Denver loss) to make the playoffs. Very excited!
I actually disagree, and that's because of a psychological edge. Players may want revenge on the Ravens, whereas Steelers may want revenge on us. These aren't concrete reasons, just hunches. This Bills game will be the most important of the season and my in-laws will be here. I'm checking 506 Sports with hope that they air our game instead of Pats vs. Jets (I'm in South Central PA). One has playoff implications and the other has seeding implications. I hope CBS does the right thing, but they may want to cater to the large fanbase of the Pats.
Every week it seems is the biggest game of the season right now. Love it. Can't remember when there was this much excitement around the Dolphins.

Unfortunately this is gonna be tbe second game in tbe last 10 i have projected a miami loss The other was baltimore I just dont think our defense can limit the bills o enough on tbe scoreboard with our dire lb situation to not expose matt moore given we lack a running game I think we are gonna be chasing it
