Can I be honest? I really, really don't understand the supposed importance of the Pro-Bowl, because it's essentially just a popularity vote. There's basically zero importance to the whole thing. The game itself is meaningless and completely forgettable. At worst, it's an injury risk to the players involved. I think the whole thing should just be scrapped, and if anything the focus should be placed on individual and team awards.
This is what happens year after year when the fan base has so much to do with the selection of Pro Bowl participants. It's turned in to a popularity contest in which the game is stacked with players from teams that are playoff bound. I used to watch the Pro Bowl as it was a GAME. Now it's nothing more than a glorified scrimmage and I don't even bother with it
To me it shows value Landry is not respected. He does more than OBJ. His last two weeks prove his big game abilities Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agree with ya'll on the Pro Bowl because from a fan's perspective it's complete rubbish. Never-the-less, not that Landry really needs any motivation, I hope he uses this Pro-Bowl snub to have a great game against the Bills. A win this week would be HUGE!
Something that just popped into my head.... The Pro Bowl should...SHOULD be a selection of the TOP players based on their overall statistics...PERIOD!!! The top 4 QB from each conference based on their overall QBR The top 4 RB from each conference based on their TOTAL yards from scrimmage And so on and so forth with each position Take the stupid fan popularity vote out of the equation
Landry impressed me last game, but previously he hasn't. He doesn't have a great catch rate considering 75% of his targets are within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage.
It's human nature to want recognition when you are working hard, whether it's football or any other industry.
That is a circumstance of the offense. He has proven to me one on one in the middle he doesnt go down easy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He also has how many 15 yard penalties? He doesn't draw any DPI calls, so his yardage is it. He has how many fumbles?
It has to be a glorified scrimmage, if that, these players do not need to be hitting each other with any sort of intensity in a game like this, the head to head contact is out of the question and the players are aware of protecting themselves and each other, and I firmly back them in that regard. I agree with you in the pop contest, but it should just be a showcase of skills event.nothing more.
I would be completely fine if the Pro Bowl, as a game, was ended. I would also be good with the fan, player and coach voting being scrapped. The issue is that its used as a baromoter of which players were the best in their era, for better and worse, and needs to be replaced with something. My choice would be AFC and NFC squads chosen by a vote of the top personell people for each team. The All-Pro team is done by the media, and this would be the alternate one done by the league itself.
I get that. But that's the problem, it's not actually recognition of anything beyond how many franchise fans spent hours clicking links and sharing tweets. Sure, it' would be nice to be loved by everyone, but it's not recognition of anything concrete.
I don't know if Landry was snubbed from the probowl. I mean all the other AFC WR's have similar or better stats than Landry. Which WR would you take out to put Landry in? Amari Cooper? A.J. Green because of injury? They all have solid arguments for their selections. The person who should be upset not getting selected is Drew Brees.
If the discussion is based on this year, some of those WRs don't belong on the list: Robinson, Hill, Allen and Marshall. I know you're talking overall, but that's not what the thread is about.
Be honest- when's the last time you watched more then 15 minutes of the Pro Bowl? I don't think I've ever watched the entire game. The thing that gets me is that the players look at the Pro Bowl as a paid family vacation to kick off the off-season. Players went nuts the year they switched it from Hawaii to Miami. So if the fans don't care and the players only care because it's a freebie, then why do we still do it anymore? I was fine with the All-Madden teams of years past.
If that's true, then that means people do still watch it. That's why I asked....I never could get into the games unless we had a skill position starting. But as soon as they sat down on the bench, I tuned out. Then again, I guess if people from 32 teams tuned in for a portion of the game, that's still much bigger ratings than a typical week.
The Pro Bowl is dumb. And hey, newsflash, those other guys are also having really good years too. Landry will probably end up going anyway due to injury/sit-outs.
Is Jarvis Landry the most valuable reciever on the Dolphins anyway? I would rate Kenny Stills higher. Landry has the higher volume but Stills has made an obscene number of 50+ yard plays for us.
I ... If Parker and Stills were our two best WRs with the most production and Landry killing it underneath ... That would be a humming offense. We should want that. Parker needs to be our 1,400 yard 15ypc guy. Stills 800-1000 and lots of TDs. Landry 1k guy not a lot of TDs because he's not that type of wr. This would be explosive.
I've said all along that I think our best games are ahead of us...possibly even in 2017. Our receiving corp is ridiculously talented and I'd rate Landry at #2....only because Parker has been playing hurt. But once all three are healthy and our offense has rhythm, I think Landry will be our 3rd best and that's an awesome situation to be in. And these guys are so young folks.... By the way, Stills should have gone to the Pro Bowl this time around. His play has been exceptional all season.
Your post contradicts itself. "it has to be a glorified scrimmage...these players do not need to be hitting each other" "...it should be a showcase of skills" Can't showcase skills if all you're doing is scrimmaging.
Can't speak for him, but I've seen the idea floated that there should be no game, just skill challenges instead. Maybe that's his point? I think they used to have events like that in the week leading up to the game. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
In defense of the Pro-Bowl, the chosen starters are generally very deserving of the vote. Yeah, you can argue someone that wasn't chosen is equally deserving, but are the ones chosen not deserving? Most of the time they belong, especially the starters. Here's the list: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000760503/article/nfl-announces-2017-pro-bowl-rosters Only two Dolphins were chosen, both starters: Suh and Wake. If I had to choose just two Dolphins those are probably the ones I'd choose too. And no I don't think Landry should be chosen over Antonio Brown or Amari Cooper.
he'll get selected once the top 100 players can't go/decline. Over half the league ends up being pro bowl selections. it's not really an honor anymore. honestly the game should just be done away with
Probably so. I'm planning on buying a 14 jersey very soon...may just have to make it a pro-bowl model.
Landry's a tricky case, especially when we think about paying him. It's easier to find a slot guy than it is to find a perimeter player who can win 1-on-1 on the boundary in tight spaces against the best CBs. Hence why the outside guys generally get the $$. But is Landry THAT GOOD of a slot guy to where his production really would be difficult to replace? I think he is.
Ridiculous comparisons. Last night OBJ was targeted 20 times and the truth is, that is all they have. Miami has a plethora of WRs, and no doubt Stills' development took stats away from Juice. Let's not forget the middle three games that Ajayi ran like a man possessed. You obviously don't watch his game. When the offense calls stupid bubble screens then your argument is semi legit. But when matched up one on one, the last two games has proven how valuable he is. Oh did I mention he also fields punts and his return in the rain against Arizona gave us great field position. Landry is the best slot receiver in the game. Pay him what he wants. This shouldn't even be up for debate.
