Dolphins cornerback Byron Maxwell left last Saturday’s game against the Jets in the first quarter with an ankle injury and hasn’t returned to the field yet. Maxwell missed a second straight day of practice on Thursday, leaving his status for this weekend’s trip to Buffalo in doubt a couple of days ahead of kickoff. The feeling earlier in the week was that Maxwell would be a 50-50 shot to play, but head coach Adam Gase said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, that the ankle is not progressing as quickly as the team hoped. Maxwell’s absence would leave the Dolphins with Tony Lippett, Bobby McCain and rookie Xavien Howard at corner against the Bills. Howard stepped in for Maxwell last week. Linebacker Jelani Jenkins also missed practice for the second straight day with hand and knee injuries.
We are fine with Howard in his place. The kid played amazing last week...one of the best complete games I've seen from a CB this season.
Howard did great, but we lose a LOT of depth with Maxwell out. We have to get a win versus Buffalo and allow Maxwell time to heal. If we have a real shot at the #5 seed next week, we will need Maxwell back to help win versus the Pats. It is funny to lose a starter and not be THAT concerned though. Far cry from where we were early in the season.
Although unlikely, he still might play. Coach said in his presser he wasn't sure and it'll be probably be a game day decision but Maxwell is someone he'd be comfortable with starting even after missing the week of prac.
I'm not. Maxwell is too inconsistent, and Howard did a great job of filling in last week. He looks better than Maxwell.
With maxwell out one more boundary corner injury means bobby mccain gets plugged in out there and thats a serious problem
