He has a piece entitled "Schrager's Ones to Watch" on Good Morning Football.

This morning, he mentioned Vance Joseph as someone to watch as a potential head coaching candidate this year.

This isn't the first time he's mentioned Joseph. He also noted that Miami is leading the league in takeaways in the last 7 weeks. Takeaways can equate to points. No doubt the Cards game padded the stats, but still.

I kid about Schrager shutting his mouth. I actually really like the guy, but I don't want anyone poaching Joseph from us just yet. He's certainly been impressive, but I'd like to keep him around for the next few years.

Miami is building something here, and I want him to stick around for what looks like to be a potential future deep playoff run. Joseph, while green, has been really good for the team. I am very pleased with how the defense is performing in his first year as a defensive coordinator.

    Shut yo mouf, Pete!

True. Also don't forget the mountain of other injuries. Misi has missed the season for the most part. Jenkins has been in and out. Howard has missed a bunch of time but has looked good. Etc. etc. We've been playing all season with a mixed bag of parts, injury replacements, etc, etc. The job this staff have done is pretty incredible IMO. From gameplanning, to preparation, to coaching decisions (benchings, etc)

Be nice if we could keep them all together for back to back years to really get things gelled around here in this new program.

Win or lose the next two weeks, playoffs or not, you have to feel encouraged by what this staff has done for this team this year, and you've got to also be encouraged and excited for what possibilities that brings rolling into year two of the program next year.

VJ will land a couple interviews I bet, especially since he satisfies the Rooney rule requirement, but I'd be kind of surprised to see him land a HC job somewhere. He was a secondary coach a couple years, DC for one, it just seems a bit early for him. Never know though, I'm sure teams have taken a good look at what he's done here, there's a lot to feel encouraged about, so you never know I guess.

He's getting exposure, for sure. I see his pressers and see some HC qualities.

I agree with you, it seems a little too early, but ya never know.

I don't want him becoming a HC right now for selfish reasons.

Agreed. I'd hate to see him leave this early too. I guess you could make the case that Gase might have been "too early" too, but he spent more time as an OC than Joseph as a DC. I guess, ultimately, that doesn't matter if the intangibles are there, which they appear to be with VJ. I'd probably prefer a bit more experience in a HC candidate, but stranger things have happened. Hopefully he sticks around, we need continuity moving into year 2 to help build on the year they've had this year.

all these new teams looking for head coaches, i feel they are going to be looking for a an offensive minded coach. not to mention, VJ is not going to find a better DC position elsewhere, he basically has carte blanche over the defense.

If anything, he will get more money, i am salivating thinking about this defense being 100% healthy under VJ and getting an upgrade at LB

he is for sure one of the best with connecting with players and getting guys to buy in, he is the real deal.

I'm hoping we win 52-49 against Buffalo on Saturday and 42-38 against NE...

    Should help our cause :D

He'll be a popular interview for sure. Aside from needing more experience, he's a defensive guy... Most teams want the offensive minded HC these days. Who was the last DC to get a HC gig ? Zimmer ?

I'd agree. I don't think he's going anywhere after this season. Remember when a bunch of people were worried about Lazor being gone after one year? Didn't even get a sniff.

There's been plenty story about how well Gase and VJ get along. He's at the very beginning of building a truly great defense, and has had to do it with missing parts. It's been impressive that they've come together some weeks and dominated, but they're, by far, nowhere NEAR the top defense in the league (11th vs the pass, 30th vs the run...the run being more crucial in many eyes).

He's young, smart, great with people, and has an eye for evaluating talent...but it's one year. That would be a MASSIVE gamble for a prospective team to take.

    I think you're right.

I have a feeling you'll start to see some defensive guys get a crack. I think Schwartz is up there. Maybe Patricia, too?

Might see a "If you can't join 'em, beat 'em" approach?

What can people see in a defensive coord that has had that position less than 16 games.

I think it's too early, I doubt he gets much interest, there isn't any WOW factor to what he's done this year, so I don't see a tremendous amount of interest coming his way this year, though I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a couple interviews.

I wouldnt be shocked to see an owner fall in love with Joseph and hire him but given his lack of experience I highly doubt he gets a HC gig this offseason. He will likely need the D to finish top 10 next season to get a HC gig. Hopefully, he gets this D in the top 10 for a couple seasons before he gets poached. Im just not all that concerned with a 1st time DC who has a mediocre D this year getting a HC job, regardess of how well he has done given the talent he has to work with. Its lovely having coaches who can actually make our young talent better. We should begin to start seeing "better drafts" now. Need some linebackers in the worse way.

I have been saying for at least 2 weeks now that I think Joesph is the next head coach in Jacksonville.

Whoever gets that job needs a new QB.

I think that arm motion of Bortles hinders his overall development. There was another first-round Jax QB who had a big funky wind up release. Forget his name. Both have really strong arms...when they come out.

I'd love to see what he can do with decent LBs and a couple more drafts before he moves on.
