He doesn't even make the top 5.... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-billing?campaign=fb-nf-sf47581023-sf47581023 1. Jason Garret 2. Jack Del Rio 3. Bill Belichick 4. Andy Reid 5. Mike Mularkey SMH
Garrett and Del Rio definitely belong on that list...maybe even Mularky, but Belichik? Reid? What have those two done to stand out from what they've done in previous years? I'd replace either Reid or Belichik with Gase.
I think coach of the year should go to the coach who has done more with less. We went from people thinking we need to do a complete overhaul to winning 8 of our last 9 games. Not taking anything away from those on the list, but if that isn't damn good coaching I don't know what is. Gase should be on that list.
1, 2, & 5, fine. But Darth Hoodie? And I agree that Reid is a stretch. I don't think that Gase should be a slam dunk winner, but he should be in the conversation.
That's fine snub him. I'm sure he won't use it as a small piece of personal motivation. No, not a chance. Thanks for keeping him motivated into next year. Love it.
I agree What does this say about the way the team played last year? Shouldn't he be equally criticized for the severe underachieving they did?
I think the bigger question here is- "Who the heck cares what a guy named Bucky thinks?" Most of the mainstream media probably didn't even know the Dolphins hired a new coach until 2-3 weeks ago, so I've never been too impressed with what they have to say. Then you have sexy Rexy saying we're the hottest team in the league and all the talking heads seem to take notice....like the head coach from a 4-10 team has special insights or something.
Seems the deciding factor is to merely have the best team. Garrett deserves credit for Dak's emergence, but he's not even the COTY on his own team. Rod Marinelli is ! Swept by rookie McAdoo The case for Belicheat is that they started without Brady, and barely had Gronk. Meh. Big red Andy Reid, we've seen this Chief's team before...Are they ready to play in Tennessee for wild card round ? Nope. Jack Del Rio should probably take it under these parameters. His coaching this year is a big part of what has the Raiders not just back in the playoffs, but as a top seed. His Gutsy calls won them games. Swept by A.Reid though. Mularkey is a good one as well. Winning in KC put to rest the 'best of a terrible division' argument. That team is almost as stacked as the Cowboys on offense! McAdoo or the $ spent to fix the defense ? It's clearly the improvement of talent on defense that turned this team back around. Dirk Koetter.....hmmmm. I'm a fan. I guess the only knock I have is that he was promoted from within..... Just like the majority of coaches on this list, at some point in time. Dan Quinn ? Not bad, just needs more talent on D. 2 months in.. Zimmer was the front runner! We all know what Gase has done. He came in here and assembled a staff 11 months ago, re-shaped much of the roster on the fly, starting 1-4. He righted the ship through endless tinkering to finish...TBD.....with his backup Qb & RB & C & TE and so on. Not one single thing about this teams jumps out at you, except the record.
Literally every piece of journalism by Bucky Brooks I have ever read has led me to the same conclusion: this guy doesn't know what he's writing about, and his opinion sucks.
I think Belichick is like Mickey Mantle used to be for MVP, you could give it to him every year, but that would be boring. Gase should definitely be in the discussion.
Gase seems like the real deal for the Dolphins and that is all that matters. 2008 was a fluke based on that easy schedule, Pennington and the team staying healthy, and Brady being hurt. 2016 feels different, much more against us in terms of injuries - Reshad Jones, Pouncey, Tannehill. 2-0 now with a backup QB and a defense that is losing LB's left and right. Ajayi might be banged up now too. They go with a backup QB and beat the Jets (ok, they suck) and Bills in Buffalo. We all remember 2013 when they got demolished by both teams when they just needed to beat one to make the playoffs. Most likely they'll face the Steelers or Ravens, so I'm not too hopeful they'll end the playoff win drought considering the defense, but still. However, should KC lose the next two and Miami beats NE, then I do think they can beat the Texans/Colts/Titans.
Gase makes the playoffs, you bet your *** he deserves it. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...kings-week-6-vikings-at-no-1-falcons-vault-up
