I take nothing back. We need a better kicker.

Glad he hit that long one, though.

He was clutch in a frenzied setup, with high winds, on a 55 yarder. BIG TIME kick.

But the negatives slightly outweigh the positives as far as he goes. Hopefully that kick gets him out of his rut and gets him some confidence, cuz he HAS the leg, great on XPs, great on kickoffs, just needs his mental game to get tight.

Being a kicker is just as much mental as it is physical, making that ugly wobbly never got more than 15 ft in the air 55 yd FG may not have just got us to the playoffs, but could be a huge turning point in his career.

oh okay, so that excuses his very pedestrian season?

The position can be upgraded for cheap in the offseason, and should be.

I nearly lost my damn mind when D.Williams purposely stayed in bounds to fight for more yards and had to watch Gase usher the kicking team out there faster than a virgin taking his pants off for prom night sex in order to attempt a 55 yarder in swirling 25mph winds ...... instead of trying to pick up a first down.

Then his testicles dropped and he nailed a line drive.

As ecstatic as I am that he hit a huge kick, I don't apologize for making this thread still.

Hopefully this kick gives him confidence and he keeps getting better.

He kicked 55 yards in a hurried offense. Cut the kid a break. And let him grow. It's pointless to keep trading out kickers unless they cost to much to keep.

Edit: You want something to be concerned about, be concerned about our entire defense. Our run defense and secondary was atrocious against Buffalo.

But I'm going to look at the bright side and our offense is clicking and we've won 9 of our last 10.

    couple things on franks.

the reason he made that kick imo, is because we were rushed and he just had to do it, no thinking, i would bet a ton of money if refs gave bills the timeout, he would miss the 2nd.

i read a stat just earlier, about his franks is something crazy like 100% from kicks 30-39yds, but over 40 he is under 50%. and for PAT he is like 35-36 with the only miss coming vs Arizona 2 weeks ago.

he bought himself this season with the game tying and winning FGs, and rightfully so, but we need to bring in someone else to challenge, i would say, based on his % on long kicks, being rushed, refs not giving bills a timeout we got lucky.

I mean a smart coach won't be kicking a lot of long fgs anyways if gase goes for it on 4th down in midfield I think the overall points will go up.

I never understood how he was so bad on clay. It should have been a ****ing advantage, he can go practice whenever he wanted on it....however he always missed and opposing kickers, for the first time on clay, were golden toe machines! Aggravating.

You're an excellent example of how to not post on a fan site. Wait till the opposite happens, then come in with a torch like you're some Nostradamus. Franks is a very below avg kicker. He hit a 55 yard FG for the first time in his career, which is great.....glad it snuck through. However, doesn't change we need to upgrade.

Trent Green contradicted himself. As they were lining up he said they had more time than they think so they should just relax and take a deep breath. Then after he kicked it he said the line about no time to think about it.

This is an excellent point. Whether Franks is retained is very much influenced by the mentality of the HC. In the Sparano era as soon as we crossed midfield we were playing for the field goal with the TD being an added bonus. A kicker who could kick from long range was an added weapon that would be used often.

Gase seems to have the mentality that settling for a FG is just that settling. Gase is more prone to go for it on 4th and short or kicking it away and trusting the defense. That may not have anything to do with who is kicking but rather his overall philosophy towards game management. For Gase a long range kicker may not be as valuable.

It's absolutely amazing how incredibly silly so many of you are looking after that game. Maybe you should rethink your over-reactionary natures when you post this kind of crap.

Franks isn't great, but it doesn't mean we have to replace him right away. I remember people criticizing Sturgis when he first started as well.

After the fact, I felt a little bad for Dan Carpenter. I think he struck those 2 kicks he missed as well as he wanted to, only to see both go wide-right because of that wind. Franks flat-out pulled his first kick wide left and it tailed back just a touch but was, overall, not destined for the center of the crossbar. I think the one Franks hit was his first made FG over 45 yards. Right?

Did he have the wind to his back? I thought Miami won the toss? Wouldn't the home team pick the side most likely to help out their kicker and QB late in the game? Awesome for us if he did have the wind to his back, though.

Those winds were definitely swirling pretty bad, regardless. Something around 25mph was reported.

So, along with the amazing kick, Franks was interviewed and said it wasn't even the "kicker's ball" that went through. They didn't have enough time to switch them out. He smashed the "QB" ball.

I don't know if there's much difference between the two, but there must be, considering there are two.

In the future, I think that the team should be prepared for situations like that regarding the balls (if time permits). You want to give your kicker the best possible chance. And if that means keeping a ball boy in the ref's hip pocket in the final minute of a game, you do it.

    Kudos to Franks.

Guy has hit exactly 1 kick over 45 this season and now we are supposed to act like he's martin grammatica.

    Stop being sycophants, eh?

He doesn't have a big leg. That's why Gase doesn't trust him.

Earlier today I'm going about my business...then I stop dead in my tracks and say to myself " 55.....a 55 yarder...Franks nailed a clutch 55 yarder with the game on the line...holy s***." Then I continued with my day shaking my head with happy disbelief.

No, but when you take a penalty to set up a better punt opportunity as opposed to kicking a 50 yard FG, like he did earlier this year, it speaks volumes imo

1 huge, clutch kick or not we need a better Kicker. I dont believe Franks is so bad that we could pick somebody off the streets to be an upgrade, but I gotta think we could find a kicker in the off-season capable of making kicks over 40 yards with some consistency. Franks has been excellent on PAT so his strength seems to be consistency on short kicks but he has a bad habit of getting short fgs blocked. Whether thats his fault or the olines @ the beginning of the yr, I dunno. The offense has beem really good this yr getting in the endzone and not settling for fgs but we need a Kicker we can count on to consistently hit on 40-49 yarders. I expect to be a playoff team year in and year out. I dont want to lose a playoff game cause Franks misses a 43 yarder.

    Do you remember what game?

It does say a lot. Is Franks' trajectory the issue? Didn't we have a blocked FG or extra point?
