A 3 game spread is a lot, across a 16 game schedule. and if they try this weekend, it could be a 4 game spread (or 2).

What about us having to play in Seattle and them getting Seattle in Gillette?

Why are you comparing the schedule to the patriots. Yes they had one of the easiest schedules this year also.

Just noticed Football Outsiders has the Dolphins having the 31st toughest schedule and the Patriots having the 32nd toughest schedule in 2016. The difference probably being us vs them.

There's literally nothing to debate. LOL 5 games in 2016 aren't going to really change his his career averages.

Look, I know you like Moore. But how many different coaching staffs has the guy been under? Pretty consistently, he's been determined to be a backup. If you have a weaker am, you've gotta be really accurate, like Pennington. But he's not. So, almost always, the coaches have a guy fighting Moore, who probably has a stronger arm, and at least similar, if not better, accuracy. So Moore hangs around as a reliable backup, but not a starter.

Kind of how you envision Tannehill, except the Tannehills of the NFL will pretty much always beat out the Moores, simply because of arm strength.

Why can't we just say Adam Gase lead us to the playoffs? Seems more realistic than the other narratives.

That's my point - too many coaching staffs when you actually look under the hood. We bark a lot in here about all the changes Tanny went thru and how it can stunt growth. He isn't the only QB to go thru that.

We are talking 6 different offenses: From the Cowboys (as an undrafted FA) to the Panthers to 3 different regimes in Miami with 4 different OC's. During the only season he opened as a starter he suffered a concussion by week 3 and a torn labrum by week 6 .... Fox was dead man walking swapping out he and Jimmy Clausen in a desperate attempt to save his own ***. Moore rushed himself back which compounded matters ..... but hey he saw his shot fading away.

You know as well as I do that with regime changes come the influx of their own players. Miraculously the Dolphins franchise though has seen enough to keep bringing him back. That says alot given all the offensive changes between DaBoll, Sherman, Lazor, and Gase.

He is a fringe player who in the right setting could be a competent starting QB, but at his age(32) would be a stopgap .... that's just the truth. I doubt franchises want to spend time developing him when they can draft a youngster with more upside.

But .... there clearly is a foundation to work with. It's undeniable. He's just on the wrong side of 30.

I see why you just don't understand football. RT had a 94 passer rating in the Browns game.. If you want to go by ESPN's QBR ( like you did here) be my guest, but not many people here will take you seriously. RT also managed 3 TD's, over 300 yards passing, and completed 65% of his passes against the Browns, but by all means, keep cherry picking.

Posting ajayi s numbers for the browns game as proof that tannehill doesn't need a run game is just stupid. He was splitting carries just like the patriots game and then running game had 116 yards vs the browns.

OK.. let's split it by attempts. Tannehill had 20 attempts in the Arizona game and Moore had 5, so how about Tannehill helped us win 7.8 games and Moore 2.2?

Cleveland has allowed a 101.7 passer rating this year. Tanny's 94 is underachieving

Wow. Thanks Jd. Thanks for the cherry on top of the cake. This thread is laughable. Underachieving. 3 to 1 td/int ratio over 2.5 games. People are pulling muscles trying so hard . Moore is QB for this week and probably through the playoffs. Hope he plays lights out. This other stuff is weak and demeaning. Underachieving?... yikes.

We had this stupid "Tannehill needs a running game to be successful" debate all offseason. Yes, in a shocking development, he is better when the run game is working. That's not earth shattering. That's called being a quarterback.

But he's also had plenty of instances in his career where he's played well when there was no running game. Including this year's Chargers, 49ers, and Cardinals games. Where Ryan had ratings of 130.6, 130.6 again, and 124.0.

So, his 3 best games this season all came when we didn't have a running game. Those are also along the highest rated games of his career.

You know - I was actually going to say something when those stats were brought up.

I guess CBrad is really having an effect on me in how I view performances and not to do it in a vacuum ...... It's far more interesting to see how all QB's faired against that defense in the same year. Granted there are some variables that are hard to factor in (ex. injuries).

At home Cleveland gives up a 96...Sooooo...

Also, the INT where he was hit as he threw it, which caused the ball to float over the WR, if the line doesn't allow that he's got a 105 rating. My point is, the difference between a 94 and a 101 isn't much. A few more completions (3 would have put him at 102), a few less attempts (3 less attempts 101.5)...How many balls were dropped? Do you know? etc..etc.

The problem with RT haters is that they're not consistent. They tend to bash RT for things that they overlook on Moore. Or they praise Moore for things RT does regularly. However, when RT does it it's because of Ajayi et al. In one sentence it's "Wins make the QB". In the next it's passer rating. Which ever set of facts fits their narrative and bias.

There is not one coach or GM in the NFL that would claim that Moore is the better QB. None...

Chargers and 49'ers secondaries are average at best (they give up the 15th and 8th most Y/A and SF gave up the 5th most passing TD's this year). The Cardinals on the other hand - no doubt a notch in his belt for how he was playing there.

The problem as and has always been consistency ..... for as good as the Cards performance was, he sh*t the bed at Baltimore. Not all QB's require top shelf running attacks to be consistent.

But then again the ones I'm referring to are elite. I don't think anyone at this point in time should be confusing him for one. He's a middling QB who under the right circumstances and surroundings can break into that Top 10.

It's true he needs to be more consistent in some parts of his game. All QB's need to do that. Even the elite ones. Brady had his inconsistencies during the 1st Jets game and the Denver game. Rodgers had his during the Tennessee, Vikings, and Chicago games. Brees had his during the Bucs, Chargers, and Detroit. RT had his at Tennessee and Baltimore.

However, the major inconsistencies that the Dolphins have shown in the past were due to coaching and o-line. An NFL QB will have bad games from time to time. Usually a couple each season. Even the elite ones. What the elite teams have, however, is a consistency throughout the organization. From the FO to the equipment managers. RT can be an elite QB. He's shown elite level play. The team around him needs to be more consistent.

Adam Gase led us to the playoffs close thread. We've seen Tannehill without Gase, no playoffs, and Moore without Gase, no playoffs. This is the dumbest thread in message board history.

Impossible standard, for anyone. Particularly if you consider Brady, who had nearly the same schedule.

Brady had 0 TDs in a full start against Denver (68 passer rating), and a poor 1st half, almost as bad as RT's 63 rating against Balt...and he's been touted as the model of consistency this year.

Also threw for 0 TDs / 1 INT against Seattle; 5.7 YPA and 80s rating against the Stej in a close win. And he is the odds-on favorite for league MVP.

I can see wanting more consistency from RT, but you have to consider norms. Everybody has bad games. Aaron Rodgers even had a 70 rating game this year, which is WAY below his norm (-40).

Rodgers even had a 65 against the Giants...
Ryan had a 75 against Philly.
Wilson had a 77 against Miami, 74 against the Saints, a 38 against Tampa, and a 43 against the Packers.

The guys you're speaking of are tested and we're not just talking about games vs. the Chargers/49'ers. We know what they're made of during stretch runs to clinch playoffs, when they're actually in the playoffs, and how they will respond in SB's. That's how we're able to overlook those "he just had a bad game".

You don't know that about Ryan Tannehill and throughout his career he has shown that for as many "flash" games as he's shown, he plays right back down to his averages or poorly. You can argue it's the coaching, O-line, etc if you like. The narrative always seems to be when he performs at what you consider "elite" it's always just because of him, but when he doesn't it's because of everyone/everything else. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around how you guys are able to decipher that.

Does he make some "elite" level throws from time to time? Surely. However he's lacked the consistency, intangibles, and pocket presence these other guys have. Elevating him into fledgling-elite status is entirely premature. I remember these conversations during Lazor's first year as the OC when it appeared Ryan might be turning the course of his career - then we know how year two went.

You can't view Rodgers in a vacuum like that. He has an ENTIRE career to hold against any poor games he had in 2016.

Wilson, on the other hand, is only in his 5th season and he's at serious risk of his narrative being career changed. He has struggled mightily with a non-existent run game and pathetic O-line.

so slightly below average. That's not really extolling his virtues.

Also, their opponents passer rating at home against Miami is exactly the same as Ryan's! Amazing

I did. He made a couple of great reads and a couple of goo/decent throws. In his first action in five years. People want to get Tannehill eight games in a new offense this dude hasn't played in five years and he got it done. Most of us aren't arguing moore is better. But we need to stop minimizing what he's done. He's been fantastic and what he's been asked to do

“You go four-and-a-half, five years without playing, and then jump in a game and go and win it, and then come and start two other games on the road in the division and win those, it’s been impressive,” Dolphins coach Adam Gase said Wednesday.

    apparently Gase is impressed too.

    False narrative.

He got hit on the pass, didn't just lob a lame duck. Considering the in-game situation of the game and relevance to making the playoffs - that takes serious moxy and belief in him by his coaches to even allow that route as an option to begin with. But they saw how badly that DB was getting beaten all game.
