http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/a...9ers-job-before-gm-trent-baalke-changed-mind/ Here's Kawakami in February 2015: According to an NFL source, Gase and Baalke did indeed come very close to an agreement for Gase to replace Harbaugh, down to the details of his prospective coaching staff, and Gase understood that his choices for the coordinator spots were approved. Tomsula's name was not involved in the discussions with Gase about the defensive coordinator slot, I was told. Then, the next morning, after Baalke flew back to the Bay Area, things changed: Gase, the source says, was informed that he could only have the job if he made Tomsula his defensive coordinator. No Tomsula, no offer. Gase turned that suggestion down flat, and that's when the 49ers immediately tabbed Tomsula as the head coach to follow Harbaugh. So when Tomsula tried hard to hire Gase as his offensive coordinator, the answer was no way-and Gase went to Chicago as the offensive coordinator.
It amazes me how often businesses make this sort of self-defeating move. Choosing a head-anything and then taking away from them power and freedom generally isn't a plan for success. If you trust the guy to be a HC then you have to also trust him to make his own coaching choices. And Gase made the right choice to walk away. If a guy is going to be judged on whether the ship sinks or sails then he needs to be able to do things his way, otherwise you risk going under because of someone else's leadership. Horrible situation. And yet - so glad it worked out for us. At least - so far so good!
It was meant as no disrespect to you. But Chip gets his parting shots and acts as if saying that means a nickel's worth of difference. I find it funny that grown men will act this way. Kelly sounded very desperate. It will be very interesting to see if he comes back from this. I doubt he does.
No disrespect. I actually mean it. Would Brees have thrived here? He had the perfect coach in New Orleans. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not sure why this old news was dug back up from the grave.... What's not mentioned is that Denver let him walk with John Fox. They would have won the Super Bowl last year, whether it was Kubiak or Gase. However if they had Gase they'd be a better team this year and beyond.... Meanwhile Miami would be God knows where. Denver is home this January thinkin Vance Joseph may be the answer. *chuckles*
Brees is a pretty damned fine QB. I think he got through his "early year" struggles. I think he would've done well anywhere, but being with Payton was a match made in heaven.
Everyone says there are only 32 head coaching jobs, so if one opens up, take it. Well Gase proved that, sometimes, its better to say no, and wait for another opportunity. He knew he was head coach material and got rewarded with a better job in miami
Payton isn't exactly lighting the world on fire right now in NO with Brees as his QB is he a good coach yeah but this is also I think about his 4th losing season in 5 years, He is starting to look Jeff Fisher like.
Totally agree. From the little that I sort of see (I'm in Aints country, unfortunately), it's the D that really stinks. From all accounts, Brees is still lighting things up, though.
