so knowing the NFL, I'm sure we will start two on the road, one at home, then off to London and then a bye.
Oh and late games on the road in the cold and a season finale against Pats.

I mean you can't be serious about this , right? We still don't know pending coaches, free agents, cuts, drafts or injuries. Let me give an example, Drew Brees and Sean Payton, I don't know if they're part of the Saints organization this year. Moreover, if we start off the season with two games at home and can gain some momentum going into the season who knows with that could do for us for some of these games that you claimed we're going to lose. Why don't you wait till free agency, draft and camp, and maybe even the preseason, before you start tagging wins and losses. So I say, LOL

Typical NFL BS. Looking at the list. Except for one team the Patsies play the same teams away as the Jets the worst team in the division. The Pats go to the Steelers and the Jets play at the Browns. Other than that, they play the same teams. Home games are set up the same way except for the Pats play Houston and the Jets play the Jags. I don't get it. You have a team that has won .875 (7/8's) of their games playing basically the same schedule as a team that has won only .313 (5/16th). I know it doesn't matter. Depending who you ask, they are either sticking it to the Jets are taking care of the Pats and we play who we play, but it doesn't ease the talk of collusion between the NFL and the Pats.

Huh? It's not like someone sits in an NFL office and says... lets give the Pats an easier schedule! It's all done on a "formula" every year that rotates divisions we face and position in the standings dictate a couple as well. Nobody really has a say in it, it's done automatically essentially once the final season standings are set.

    Indeed.

Although I'd be up for a big change in the way the divisions and conferences are structured. I'd change it completely. The divisional system, based on geography, doesn't make for the best system. I'd either scrap divisions and play only conference teams, or else I'd have a performance-based divisional/conference system which changes each year.

They can argue that there's a system for creating the schedule, well duh, Ofcourse there is...but you can't ignore the trends or flaws in that system. DirtyLandry is probably hitting the bullseye here. Meanwhile Ofcourse the Pats will open at home and have a later bye with favorable prime time matchups.

Before everyone gets crazy about "how tough" the schedule is.....keep this in mind

In 2007 we went 1-15....when the schedule was released the next season EVERY TEAM WE PLAYED circled us as an easy win....

We went 11-5. The NFL is fickle, and teams go good/bad in one season. Gotta show up and play, period.

This is the thread for the 2016 schedule.

Here are some posts regarding that schedule:

Well, it turned out to be one of the weakest schedules in the league... point is, we have no idea how these teams are going to be 8 months from now, what might look like a tough schedule may actually be an easy one and vice versa.

BRUTAL SCHEDULE!! Holy crapola I mean every one of those teams is basically a playoff caliber team and even the ones who didnt make the playoffs are division rivals. This team better enjoy this years playoff run.

You guys know that other than 2 games, the schedule is pretty much set already. We got the NFC South and AFC West. You never know who's gonna be bad from year to year. I'd assume Denver and San Diego are winnable games, New Orleans and Carolina could be winnable games too.

There really can't be any collusion when it comes to schedule. Every team plays six games against the other three teams in its division. The NFL ensures that all teams will play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years. Every team plays one game against each of the four teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road. Which division a team plays is determined by a rotation system ensuring that the teams in one division will play the teams in every other division in its conference once every three years. Every team plays one game against each of the four teams from a division in the other conference once per season — two games at home and two on the road. These matchups are also determined by a rotation, which ensures that all teams play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years. Every team plays its remaining two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and the other on the road. The matchups are determined by where the teams finished in their divisions in the previous season. For example, a team that finished the previous year in third place in its division will play the third-place teams from the two other divisions in its conference.

Yes, and the 2 games are played vs AFC teams that finish in the same place in their div, we finished in 2nd place, so we get Ten and Balt, Pats finish 1st so they get Pitt and whoever, Jets finish last so they get Cle and whoever.

The scheduling is as even and fair as it gets, rotating div schedule, so you play all NFL teams every 4 years, and 2 games per year vs AFC teams that finished in the same place in their respective div.

I remember the old way, sometimes you could go a decade without playing a team, the way it's set now is about as perfect as you could ask for really.

its easier to turn around a program off a 4th place schedule. It just is.

Now you get a 2nd place schedule, and unlike the Sparano/Ireland era, you must improve around the nucleus that got you into the postseason to meet that challenge, lest teams pass you by.

This season has earned us nothing next year other than ensuring that our opponents don't overlook us. Be ready for them.

Our record has given us 2 games that "potentially" could have been easier if we lost more. But who knows? The 2nd place teams we play next year could each go 1-15...

If you remember the 2009 season after the Wildcat AFC East Championship year the Dolphins had the NFC South and AFC South. The NFC South had a great New Orleans team and a great Falcons team. The AFC South had the Peyton Manning Colts and a Texans team that the Dolphins had never beaten to that point. They ended up losing all those games, but they were very competitive. The First place games was an early season loss to the Chargers and an L to the Steelers in the last game of the season.

I remember them starting 0-3 with Chad Pennington but rallying to be above .500 going into December before Chat Henne went Chad Henne and melted down late in the season.

All I'm saying is that we know absolutely nothing about the strength of schedule going into next season.

There is one statistical trend regarding SoS before the season starts vs. after it ends. This is from 2014:
    https://i.imgsafe.org/bd4248516e.png

How to read the graph: the y-axis shows SoS after the season minus SoS before it, and the x-axis is SoS ranking before the season.

So it's basically saying the stronger the preseason SoS the more likely the actual SoS will be weaker, while the weaker the preseason SoS the more likely the actual SoS will be stronger.

Oh yeah let me be more specific.

"Preseason SoS" is based on records from the previous season while "Postseason SoS" is based on records after the season. Specifically, Preseason SoS = ratio of total wins to all games played from the previous season for all teams on this season's schedule, with teams you play twice counted twice.

If we did this for the 2017 season you'd add up all wins from the 2016 season of all teams we play in 2017 and divide by total number of games. That gives preseason SoS. Postseason SoS does the same but for the records from the 2017 season (once it's over).

I think its far, far to early to say that. So much can change over the course of an offseason....

I mean are you saying....this team as it sits right now? Well...we know that isnt realistic because we get Reshad Jones and Mike Pouncey back. Theres the draft...and Free agency. So...not sure how anyone can try and parse out a record yet...
