http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/ some interesting names. I don't want us to build this way, but we need to hit a couple. Here are 5 I think we should target, maybe landing 2-3: 1. Martellus Bennett 2. Ron Leary 3. JPP - need to address this to be serious about winning the East 4. Stephon Gilmore 5. Lawrence Timmons *Terrelle Pryor as a wildcard.
I also would consider Rex Ryan as DC if VJ leaves. RR's familiarity with the division, especially us could put us over the top defensively. He won't get another HC job, so he could be stable for us there. Plus a perspective of a head coach is helpful Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
better players? You guys focus way to much on the coaching and way too little on how bad some of our players were.
Rex has always been a good DC but he doesn't fit at all with what Gase is about. There's no chance Gase would want Rex in the building if Vance leaves.
Well this defense has been atrocious. They need a miracle and if they dont spend $, they need a guy who understands defenses. Being in the Div helps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think we're finally in a position to build mainly through the draft, but a fee free agents certainly couldn't hurt. TE Michael Rivera Gavin Escobar Jack Doyle G Luke Joekel TJ Lang Brian Winters Stefan Wiesnewski Chance Warman DE Darryl Tapp William Gholston Jabal Sheard LB Malcolm Smith Safety DJ Swearinger
Rex coaches a 3-4, we are a base 4-3. There would be too much retooling to change AGAIN. I dont see it as a realistic fit.
You really need to put a center on that list. Pouncey as great as he is, is completely unreliable and the dropoff is too great.
Can we all take a step back off the ledge and remember that this is our first season in a totally new system on both sides of the ball...and we still made the playoffs. Assuming Vance doesn't take a HC position there's no reason to replace him after his first year. Need to give the guy some time to develop the defense. Rome wasn't built in a day.
We're actually in a very good cap situation this offseason. We will have about 65 million in cap room after cutting Albert, Williams, Misi, Dion Jordan maybe, earl mitchell maybe. And there are plenty of really good guards available if we really wanted to shore up the offensive line.
If VJ goes to Denver he may want his own guys... (I'm hoping that he doesn't leave) but... Wade Phillips as new DC?
maybe that's an issue too. with this defense, it all has to be looked at. IF VJ is gone, we have to be open to be a 3-4
Let's look at that Rex Ryan knows the AFC East so well narrative! Week 2: GAVE UP 37 points to the Jets. Week 3: Shutout New England who didnt have ANY QB available in that game wow. Week 6: Dolphins drop 28 on them. Week 7: New England gashes them for 41. Week 16: Miami hits them for 34. Week 17: Injury depleted checked out Jets drop 30 on them. So against the division that REX KNOWS SO WELL, the defense ALLOWED AN AVERAGE OF 28 points against. And his sideshow clownshoes bull****? Hard Pass. Landry, every time you suggestion an addition to this org, it's a name. You are obsessed with NAMES and STAR POWER like Ross was for years. We need to get pieces that fit what we are building and win football games not back pages. No Distractions. No Bull****. Execution. And Rex (as well as Manziel, your previous project), do none of that.
I still hate Swearinger for essentially ending Dustin Keller's career in the 2013 preseason. He looked so good in preseason for us.
JPP will ask for stupid money and won't be worth it IMO. Timmons would be a nice pickup and a huge upgrade for us. Not a fan of Bennett, but mostly because of the money he will command. I don't believe we need a star TE if we continue to utilize our 3 WR sets with Landry, Stills and Parker. combine that with the perception that Gase wants to utilize the backs more in passing and there's only so many balls to go around.
Check yourself. Before you Rex yourself. More seriously, Rex would be an odd fit (IMHO) with Gase. He peaked years ago with the Jets and has not come close to reaching those heights again with the Bills. Denver seems intent on Vance, but I'll leave it to Gase to find a new DC. In any event, better players will make the defense better in 2017.
I like guys like Rex, Wade, Haley, etc. guys that were once coordinators that got HC jobs but failed, but are really good at their nitch. Haley and Wade are great at their jobs, just not HCs. Oh well. Look what Rex did in Batimore. It was sick. That doesnt go away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I disagree- we've been average for third-stringers on the field. I don't think any other team makes the run we did missing both starting corners, two starting linebackers (w/ the 3rd playing with a cast), both safeties and one D lineman....Suh was basically the only projected starter on the field for 16 games. (cause remember, Wake was slotted a backup). When you look at it from that perspective, the defense played AWESOME this season. They were simply outclassed.
The defense is the biggest problem. Clearly what they have been doing isn't working. Time to "blow it up" and start over starting with a new DC and scheme. Then draft heavely towards defense and try to acquire defensive players in the FA. On the offensive side, I would try to keep Stills. I like our WRs. Something needs to be done about BA at LT. He either needs to move to G or retire. Pick up a few more OL in the FA. I'm not sure about the status of Moore's contract but we need to keep him; solid backup.
https://www.google.com/amp/profootb...s-out-to-mike-mccoy-for-oc/amp/?client=safari This is great news! Hopefully they are hired before the end of the week lmao!
Blowing up the defense is a little much. If we're healthy, we have 2 good S's, a good CB and a few OK young CB's, Suh and Wake. we dont blow it up, but we have no LB's so that and OL are the biggest offseason priorities.
I think that Wade may stay with Denver. Honestly, Denver would be crazy to hire VJ over Shanahan considering the year that ATL has had offensive. But, VJ and Wade have worked together before. I wouldn't see Wade leaving if VJ is hired.
Drastic changes need to happen on defense. Lack of talent is a issue but so is coaching on the defensive side. I have never seen so many missed tackles due to not raping up or just playing soft. On multiple occasions I saw on 3rd down the corners giving the WRs tons of space. That's a huge mistake on a say 3rd and 5.
