Growing up in the 1960's it was always Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, Tom & Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, Snaglepuss, Marilla Gorilla, Mr Peabody, Mighty Mouse, Fractured Fairytales, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Johnny Quest, and Popeye. Of course my childhood fantasies always sparked by Sinbad the Sailor cartoons too.....I guess my facination with muscles & bodybuilders started with this..... Oh I remember Kimba the White Lion too, had to watch it with "snow" as I was in Miami, and could only see it on Channel 12 from West Palm Beach....came in all snowy.
I think Fractured Fairy Tales.....I don't know if I was always smarter than the other kids, but I always got the jokes in those....they were actually meant for adults. They were shown during Bullwinkle and if you've ever seen that show, the story was never meant for kids, but for adults.
I guess I always like Bugs Bunny for much of the same reason. I also remember 1967 when NBC came out with like 4 sci-fi cartoons, including Space Ghost. They were all cancelled mid-season not because they weren't popular, it was because the goody-goody people got to NBC and told them they were too violent for kids
heckle and jeckle used to crack me up, i don't think they would be politically correct now. tom and jerry used to be funny too. gotta mention the coyote and road runner.
I forgot about Sonic. That was a cool show. I loved it. I use to go to block buster and get sonic videos.
There is a Nick Toons channel and when it first started it had all the classic Nick Toons but now it just shows the new ones.
I used to also watch all the oldies...Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, The Flinstones, the Jetsons, Scooby Doo... I used to wake up early to watch Dick Tracy which for some reason it was on at 6:30 am... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLVOVaBFHas"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLVOVaBFHas[/ame]
oh i forgot rocket power...that show was awesome i dont consider beavis and butthead as growing up with them, i watch them now but now when i was young
Many of the Tom and Jerry cartoons also are "politically incorrect" now too....as they would often have the faceless black maid (you would only see her legs) with the stereotype Uncle Tom southern Black accent. Those are tucked away in the corner of some film closet never to see the light of day again.
Remember 'The Little Rascals" episode where they did a musical number in black face? Its funny because you don't realize how racist that is until you are older.
I saw a Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney movie on TMC a couple of weeks ago in which they did blackface too. I was just incredulous they could get away with that, even in the 1940's
WOW you pretty much summed up all my cartoons, and MASK! I forgot all about that one until I saw this post. Oh and D&D rocked.
Betty Boop Top Cat Tom & Jerry Mighty Mouse The Roadrunner Loved all the cutesy cartoons with singing flowers etc.. The Flintstones
