Bess has had the best hands in camp. I think it would be foolish to not keep him around. The hard part is, while we don't have good depth at the top of the wide receiver ranks, our depth in the middle and bottom is probably better than most.

Camarillo, Bess, Kircus, Wilford. All players that fill out a depth chart nicely. Add Ginn and Hagan to that pile and someone has to go.

I guess he didn't read yesterdays report saying just the opposite. I guess if you are going to go down, you might as well go down in a hail of gun fire. God bless him :pity:

The WR battle is one that I'm watching closely and I'm hoping that Bess has earned his way onto the roster. I would hate for this team go out and pick up a castoff and see them potentialy lose Bess to another team.

We are unsure at the top of the WR position, but at the bottom there's a freaking crowd.

why? cause he's pushing the Beck for a 5th speculation now despite no evidence that he's being shopped?

it amazes me that some of these guys actually have a job just plain making stuff up. Omar is one of the worst in South Florida.

You're joking, right? Kelly is a hack.

Anyway, I wonder how many additional Cowboys we'll find on our roster. The Cowboys have a bit of a glut at the #2 receiver spot, probably some excess LB/OT depth, and might have a couple of secondary guys worth looking at.

It'll be very interesting if we take any Belichick castoffs.

As with most things...that's relative, not fact. It's your respected opinion.

For example, I enjoyed the blog. That doesnt mean I agreed with everything in it.
I like his foward approach to his writing, especially the part where he tells everyone that he doesn't need acceptance.

I checked the SS earlier, nowhere was there any mention of Beck's performance in last nights practice where he threw 3TD's and had what one reporters called the "the throw of the day".

    From Edgar...

Omar dug himself a hole and he continues to tunnel even deeper.

Opinion can become fact if enough supporting evidence is presented to back an opinion. Omar has been caught in many examples of misleading reporting and letting his personal choice affect how he chooses to slant information.

As for the part about him not needing acceptance.... that's funny.
Because if he really felt that way he wouldn't need to address the fact that he's not getting support on his blog reporting.

I know you're a journalism major but I still question why you'd choose to make a defense of the journalism field based on the glaring examples of slanted and sleazy journalism many have cited with Kelly and especially the 790 crew.

Come on...... tell me you have some proof of this.
That would simply be too damn funny!

    Harvey did that, not Omar.
I know the guy has a tough writing style where he knows he'll offend some people. I'm not saying the guy will change the course of journalism with his ground-breaking writing(sarcasm). Just that I think he isn't as bad as you all make him seem. At least he knows the game of football. Armando, imo, is a lot worse.

I love the fact that we're creating space for pick-ups.

Not going down that road..
I just think it's unfair to criticize this article in question. I didn't notice any slant in it. He thinks Beck should be kept and perhaps traded for a 5th round pick. That's his opinion. I think we can get a 2nd, maybe 3rd. a 4th would be pushing it. That's even if we trade him. I rather keep him to see which one of our young qb pans out.

and I'm right there with Sparano with our Davone Bess Man Love.

15 that is a lot. That would mean Miami would have only 30 players worth keeping. Maybe they are that bad. It is just hard to believe for me. It is not like other teams are THAT filled with talent. I guess it coudl be argued that the other 31 teams have one or two players at the bottom of their roster that is better than someone on the bottom of our roster.

I would put the over under at 8. That is even a pretty big number.

    Er, no.

Our problem with Kelly is very simple. He allows his opinion to influence his writing, then denies that it happens. Were his opinion "Beck ****s gold and saves puppies from burning buildings," it would still be problematic because he would allow that opinion to color his reports.

Remember, we're talking about a game of statistics here. Completion percentage, TD-to-INT ratio, passing yards, all of those are cold hard facts not subject to change because someone wants them to. Yet despite Beck's numbers consistently improving (and despite putting up better numbers against the Bucs than Henne) there is a perception that Henne is far superior an already-busting Beck.

This perception was created and fueled primarily by Omar Kelly, with generous help from Ben Volin. It simply is not accurate. Yet it is the prevalent viewpoint.

This is one of the things I mentioned Desides, when telling you how I liked your approach. You are skewing the facts to aid your opinion.
    Henne- 5/10 67 yards, 0 TDs
    Beck- 5/9 45 Yards, 0 TDs

Numbers put up against a mix of the Bucs' second- and third-string defenders.

Numbers put up against the virtual entirety of Tampa Bay's first-string defenders, which constituted the NFL's second-best defense last year.

Who's skewing what again? Don't throw out numbers and treat them as equivalent situations. They weren't.

I really wish Henne had played the first-string defense, so we could put this argument to rest.

Beck had a higher completion percentage :D

To be fair Des, I think it was a mixture of some 1st and 2nd when Henne came in. I think.

Touche! That site has its fair share of boneheads. But I notice some members in the thread who have made quality posts here and there.

But my point isn't that one fans opinion is worth more than another fans(because that's FAAR from true), my point is that people will always be offended and call members of the you-know-what(5 letter word, rhymes with pedia) biased. Regardless of who says what.

Second and third teams, based on Tampa Bay's roster at the time. Sparano commented later that the first-string defense played zone against Beck and the second/third teams switched to man coverage for Henne. That's a big reason why we saw the playcalling change between Beck and Henne, too.

    Keepers (no particular order)

    Offense
    1. C. Pennington, QB
    2. R. Brown, RB
    3. R. Williams, RB
    4. J. Long, OT
    5. V. Carey, OT
    6. S. Satele, C
    7. J. Smiley, OG
    8. D. Thomas, OG
    9. Ginn Jr, WR/KR/PR
    10. A. Fasano, TE

    And the this year's picks
    11. C. Henne, QB
    12. S. Murphy, OG
    13. J. Parmele, RB
    (L. Hilliard, RB maybe to PS)

    Defense

    14. J. Porter, LB
    15. A. Ayodele, LB
    16. R. Torbor, LB
    17. C. Crowder, LB
    18. J. Allen, FS
    19. Y. Bell, SS
    20. V. Holliday, DL
    21. J. Ferguson, NT
    22. R. Starks, DL
    23. Q. Moses, DE/OLB

    This year's picks
    24. P. Merling, DE
    25. K. Langford, DE
    (L. Dotson, DE and Toribio, DT probably to PS)

    Special teams

    26. Carpenter, K
    27. Fields, P

    and 28. J. Denney, LS

    Probably
    29. D. Bess, WR
    30. D. Hagan, WR

I think all these guys are absolutely safe.

Beyond that, there's no reason you absolutely need to keep Roth, Daniels, Cobb, Goodman, Peele, Mauia etc- they're just ok and probably wouldn't start anywhere in the league (though I agree Beck, Soliai, and Rod Wright deserve more time here). There's probably a lot of waiver wire guys that are equal to slightly worse, and our guys already know the playbook.. so many of them will stick this year.

A lot of our backups could conceivably be upgraded with waiver wire pickups. We have zero depth beyond DE.

In other words, I think Sparano is being fairly truthful here about the core of this team standing at about 30. I think the over/under at 8 is realistic

Just like i find the 30% or whatever it is of miamis fanbase that will not see the writing on the wall when it come to Beck, HIGHLY Entertaining.

I Can see why some of you wouldn't like Omar, but really how much news do you want to hear about are 3rd or 4th sting QB.I mean really.

Can you please link us to Sparano's comments about Beck being the 3rd or 4h QB on the roster, I don't remember him ever saying that. I do remember him saying that he wanted to get Pennington more snaps this week and see what Henne can do this week because Beck and McCown have thrown more passes, but he never ever said that Beck is a 3rd or 4th stringer.

And if Omar is shooting for satire, not only is he failing miserably, but he should say that upfront so people can read their news elsewhere.

I also didn't see anyone here defend Omar when he was criticized for dumping on Hagan and then switching positions when Sparano came out and said that Hagan was the best player in camp. But when he takes such a strong stand against a player that a few people have given up on....then people jump to his defense.

Beck being shopped around the league in hopes of landing a trade? Nope.

    Beck being cut? Nope.

What writing on what wall could you possibly be referring to? The scribbles Omar Kelly writes in the padded room don't count.
