I was just curious if there were any here besides me in the medical or bio fields (i.e. physician, nurse, researcher, technician, EMT, teacher, botanist, etc). Pretty much anyone who works with bio and that includes if anyone planning on entering these fields such as pre-med. So anybody can feel free to hop in with what you do or will be doing. Right now I'm a pre-med, just graduated from UCLA. Still doing Alzheimers research here and planning on taking some EMT courses next year for certification. I actually applied for med schools this year but I'm backing out since I'm retaking my MCAT. Still sent in a few secondaries just for kicks like I did last year (Stanford, UCLA, Ohio State, Iowa, and Dartmouth since they were pretty cheap).
I'm editing doctorate-level medical papers now(freelance)...used to work for the same blood bank the wife works at..also a CPR instructor. May end up working in a lab somewhere, either in tissue (re)generation or research. Not sure yet- I hope to find out monday. No medical degree- don't plan on getting one either. Too much of my life taken up on being taught stuff that I could learn on my own in half the time. *Edit: In other words, I'm just lazy.
University of Iowa is an excellent med school if you're considering going there... Definitely would recommend it... That and Hawkeye football cannot be beat (atmosphere, the team can definitely be beat)
I have a masters degree in molecular biology and microbiology from UCF. I am currently working on a Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry at the University of Idaho. My master's project was on a cell cycle protein that is down regulated in prostate cancer but up-regulated in most other cancers. My Ph.D. project involves developing technologies to use microorganisms to stabilize soils under existing buildings against liquefaction during earthquakes.
I am a Medical Technologist and I work for the Research Center at the University of Florida in the Lab.
Nice. Your Ph.D project is certainly very pertinent to my area especially as of late. Where'd you get your bachelor's and in what major? They were actually on my list and one of those I'm seriously considering applying to next June. They don't take too many out of state but I think I have a great shot so I just sent one in. When I decided to drop out of the running and retake the MCAT (which would probably delay this current cycle's to the last batch of spots), I'd already sent my app in so we'll see.
Ah, I guess I read that as a masters, not bachelor's. Unless it was a joint degree in the same university. Wasn't sure because it is possible to get a bachelor's somewhere else and in another field and later getting a separate masters.
I have BS in psychology with a minor in criminal justice from Jacksonsville State University in Alabama and a BS in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from the University of Central Florida.
