Maybe he makes letting Stills walk easier...he won't be cheap...but could pay great dividends for us.

be careful of what you hear about $12M a year. it's all about over-inflating at this point to scare teams off

No, donte is poor value, too expensive and not very much production. Zack brown outplayed Hightower last season and will come cheaper. Brown is also alot better in coverage and can cover tight ends.

Hightower is a unique player, and I think he can do a lot of interesting stuff for the scheme but you need to make a commitment to utilizing him the right way.

He makes up for some of the negatives that come from the wide defensive alignment in the run game, and his ability to blitz can potentially take advantage of a lot of aspects of the scheme. But you got to make a commitment to blitzing.

The need Miami has, edge rushing, is a premier cost. same with qb and OT. we either spend the money or have to go through some journeymen next year. Miami needs to dig deep in the draft and find a nugget that can get to the pass rusher to help with costs

The more i look at free agency and our place in the draft and the needs of our team, Hightower would be well worth the money. we will have more than 45 and possibly 50 million in cap space available, and he is a flat out impact linebacker. Especially given that a DE that can come in and play right away would be easier to find than a good MLB, and our complete lack of impact linebackers over how many years now, he is worth that money.

Kenny Stills is gone. there is no need to pay him that much money. He is a player who's value is solely dependent on how much he is getting paid. He was good last year, but a lot of his value was from the fact that he was still on a contract of around 1 million. Boost that up to what he is going to get and that is a horribly valued contract. We drafted 2 Wr's last year and a 3rd WR should not be getting paid what he will get. Nice player, but cant pay them all.

Flat out, this team needs impact, front 7 players. I think the move is to sign Hightower, move Kiko to weakside where he seems to be universally thought of as better suited, and then sign one of the top guards in free agency, as well as a competent DE, and then move to the draft/ the latter part of free agency when the values of signed players are much better. But to me, this team needs an impact LB more than any other position on defense. Hightower, TJ Lang/one of the other top guards, and a competent DE, and then moving to the draft is the best move.

That would significantly cut down on the holes in this roster, while not breaking the bank/spending all our cap room, and would allow us to pick BPA in the draft at guard, DE, DT, TE, etc. followed by finding value in the latter stages of free agency like the great teams do.

Also, I was under the impression that Misi was a career ending injury. While i dont think he is good, as our 3rd best starting LB, he is more than competent if we dont cut him. And having a competent player is better than what we have been rolling out after guys get injured in past years.

I'd also take a very good look at Calais Campbell, although i dont think he is a 4-3 DE, because he has been one of the best DE's in the game in his career, albeit very quietly.

I'd sign Hightower for 10-11, one of the top guards for 5-6, Chance Warmack as a buy low guy for a few million (chance to be a great move considering he might not have been great as a top prospect, but he was relatively solid compared to what we have had in his first 3 years), thus shoring up our entire O-Line, then add a DE for a mid range price.

Then go to the draft needing LB depth, S, 2nd TE, O-Line Depth, and another DT.

Richard Seymour once punched Big Ben in the face. That's gotta count for something right?

My concern with Hightower is that if the Patriots are willing to let him walk rather than pay him, they obviously think he's replaceable and some of his success is in part due to their system, much like they did with Jamie Collins and Chandler Jones. They seem to have a knack of letting people go and/or trading them away and replacing them successfully. Makes me kind of envious of how they manage to do it while so many other teams struggle!

That said, Hightower could be a good addition to this team at the right price. He won't come cheap and we'd have to believe he can be a big time impact player for us. I have my reservations about paying big money to a Patriots player due to some of them not being as good outside of their team, but I think Hightower's game could translate to success elsewhere if used correctly.

Totally agree, but isn't that the Patriot way? Who gets paid there aside from Brady and Gronk?

Miami will have to spend in FA because they lacked so much talent, that the draft just isn't enough. Expecting 3-4 rookies to have an impact, plus players drafted last year still isn't enough. We won 10 games with a 3-4 win roster. Now we have more holes in the offseason, right, wrong or indifferent, with Guard and Safety. Look, I know spending could be a disaster, but when does Miami want to go after this division and dethrone the Pats? Brady is not going anywhere for another 2-3 years. So if you draft players, they could walk at the end of their deals and the end of the Brady era, because Miami has proven that they don't spend money to keep their own. It would be sweet if they could keep players in 3 years because I'm thinking maybe cutting Suh then could be cap-friendly. That was a guess.

I would gladly take Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins for the Dolphins defense. They both would be major upgrades over what we have now and by the way, they are both ex-Patriots.

I think solving our ILB, even at a premium, can make a lot of sense. If we can slow down the run game and allow our pass rush to do more damage.

Then you can focus on G, WR, DE and S in the draft. If we can find a good G in the draft, that opens up our run game, which keeps our defense fresh, creates more play action opportunities and can take us to the next level.
