I had mentioned this in another thread, but as big as the game is, I figured that I'd give it its own thread.

Man, I loved Mass Effect 2. I have played it, start to finish, like 5 times over the years. Mass Effect 3 I played, and agreed that the ending sucked. Fortunately this Mass Effect: Andromeda sounds like it might be a return to ME2.

Of course, I also thought that about Dragon Age 3, and it really wasn't what I liked about Dragon Age: Origins.

I loved 2, and played it through three times. I only did 3 twice, but the second time was with all of the DLC and the "fixed" ending, so it was a very different experience. I also played as a very different character.

I'm one who's thought that the DA series has gotten much better as its gone on, and Inquisition is one of my favorite games of all time. If they take what they did there and import some of it into the ME universe, which it seems they are, I'll be elated. I'm willing to wait on the game so that they get it right too, especially since I likely have my gaming plate full until next spring anyways.

Is this even really a delay? They showed a nothingburger trailer in 2015.

I can't remember if Bioware ever officially released any estimated window, but it was leaked early last year that the game would come out this fall. I took this press release and its tone to basically address that info, and say hey, we're getting it right and it'll be a little longer.

Lots of good tidbits in the artice:

    http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-andromeda-graphics-347/

Someone who calls themselves Shinobi602 has been proven right most of the time in leaking details about Bioware games, and this all comes from him/her.

I found it interesting that they mention the facial animations, because Bioware themselves did an amazing job with that in Dragon Age Inquisition. Not only with the characters that they created, but my own character in the game was flawless time after time. If they can improve on that, they'll be doing a better job than most major animation studios. I also love hearing about the scope of the game, and how much there apparently is to see and do. ME2 & 3 were already great in that regard, so if this one has that much more, I'll be in heaven.

I thought that I'd just give this thread a bump, since there's been a lot of new info out about the game, and its now just six weeks away from release. It likely won't be a day-one purchase for me, but thats only because I'll still be playing Horizon: Zero Dawn, which comes out three weeks earlier. I'm really looking forward to jumping back into the ME universe and seeing all that they have to offer.

I am doing PC for this. I'm not that hyped about it honestly. I hope I'm way off. I'm just afraid that gave it the Dragon Age Inquisition treatment. Which I liked that game... But it wasn't amazeballs.

    I really liked Inquisition.

The ending of Mass Effect 3 has dulled my hype. Though I extremely enjoyed the game until the end. I think the ending of Mass Effect 3 was my second most hated ending of a RPG. My #1 will always be the bad ending of Breath of Fire. The end, question mark. Go to hell!

I suppose we're on opposite ends then, as Inquitsition is one of m favorite games of all time. If ME:A were merely DA:I In Space, then that would be great. But I expect that it will be a lot more, and that Bioware will continue to push things.

As much as I love ME2 and 3, the whole zombie aspect was a huge turnoff. Without that, ME2 is practically a perfect game. I'm hoping that they can steer the enemies and narrative back into that direction. They went so overboard with it in 3 that it was sometimes hard to enjoy the rest.

    https://gamerant.com/mass-effect-andromeda-female-turian-companion/

They've released info on another companion, a Turian female named Vetra Nyx. She sounds cool.

With the nature of the game, Im curious as to how many companions will be on the squad from the get go. One of my favorite parts of the other games was seeking out and recruiting new teammates. I've also been wondering how much control we'll have over their armor and appearance, after Bioware did such a good job of that with DA:I. Its something I always enjoy spending time on when given the chance.

I liked DA:I, didn't love. Not sure why. I guess I'm old and wanted more Dragon Age Origins where it's all about conversations, characters, and role playing. Where DA2 (which I hated) and DA:I which were action games. DA:I was pretty much action RPG farcry with all of the useless side stuff in every zone.

I am very aware, however, that the world in general wants things to be action oriented (see FF15) and I'm the weirdo. I'm the dude that wishes they'd slow ME:A down to ME1 levels again. And make it about conversations, characters, and role playing. Instead it looks like it'll be action packed levels with cutscenes tying them together like DA:I was.

interested in this but holding off until the initial hype wave passes. I got bored with DA:I really quick and ME:A is giving off too many similar vibes. Even if the single player sucks I hope the multiplayer is at least as good as ME3

LOL, its cool that so many people can have such opposite views . DA:I was a game that would be almost impossible for me to get bored with, even on my second playthrough. Its right down my alley, and I'm hoping for a lot more of that from ME:A. I can't play online, and even if I could, have no interest in multiplayer. I want an immersive, deep, time consumptive single player experience. Hopefully, we both get what we want

    http://www.gamesradar.com/mass-effe...-and-says-kett-are-more-nuanced-than-reapers/

Another good article/interview, and I really like what I'm hearing. Sounds like lots of cool secondary activities to dig into, and a theme thats more similar to a lot of ME2 than ME3. Team building, diplomacy, exploration and discovery, and not so much fighting off waves of mindless monsters at every turn. No clock ticking on the end of the galaxy.

    EDIT: Also this one here:

    https://gamerant.com/mass-effect-andromeda-not-open-world-213/

They stress that the game won't be open world, though really, how could it possibly be, given the nature. It sounds a lot like they're transferring the style from DA:I into ME, and that seems like an obvious choice and a good one. Visit the planet, or other area, explore the setting within its confines, and then back out.

They also mention that there is no level cap, so awesome! And that loyalty missions are spread out over several sections, instead of just one like before, so that adds depth as well.

Brittish actress Natalie Dormer will be playing an Asari Doctor in ME:A, and it will be a large, important role. I haven't seen her in much (I've never watched Game of Thrones), but she did a good job on The Tudors a while back.

http://www.gamereactor.eu/news/508943/Mass Effect Andromedas planets bigger than DA Inquisition/

Now, thats a very important quote, because DA:I is a big game. I was hoping that it would be common for the planets to be about as big as the bigger levels in that game. If some are as big as the WHOLE GAME? Thats seriously awesome.

    https://gamerant.com/mass-effect-andromeda-file-size/

File sizes teased. 45-60GB on consoles, and 55GB on the PC.

    https://gamerant.com/mass-effect-andromeda-day-one-patch/

Also, a few tidbits in that one.

-There will be of course a day one patch. Bioware is still working out the details and size.

-There will be a New Game Plus feature, a first for Mass Effect. No other details on that yet.

-AI companions will mostly work by themselves based on how you've chosen to level with up, rather than giving orders while out in the field. I'm presuming this is similar to how they functioned in DA:I, and I like that. Hopefully, this also means that they'll be more useful in combat, and killing every enemy won't fall to the player, as was often the case in ME2 & 3.

I've been thinking about playing the original trilogy before this. I've tried 1 a few times but had trouble getting into it. Is 1 vital to play as long as I read up on the story? I heard 2 and 3 are fairly different from 1.

I never played the first one myself, though I was very interested in it. At the time, it was only on the XBOX and PC, and I'm a Sony gamer. I jumped into the second one, and loved it. Its an amazing game, and I had a great time even not knowing much backstory, though I think that if you were to read up on the synopsis of the first one, it would be even better. I would say that you absolutely need to play the second one before jumping into the third one. Primarily/most importantly to learn the characters and story, also to make choices that can effect how things in the third one play out, and then also because the combat in the third one is much more challenging (I found "normal" mode to be harder in 3, than "hard" in 2).

All that being said, the story and characters in Andromeda have only a very broad relation to the original trilogy. Its hard to say how much you'd miss if you haven't played those yet, but you're likely to understand and appreciate everything better if you do.

I just finished the game and wished I didn't **** up one of my loyalty missions (Samara). Four of my crew died. All of them were the women coincidentally.

    Anyways, on to 3...

Whether people die also depends on how you did the loyalty missions, and some other choices you made along the way earlier in the game. The most notable is when there is a fight between Miranda and Jack. You have to be I believe at least 75% Paragon/Renegade to break it up the right way without taking sides. If you don't/can't, someone (not necessarily one of those two) will die at the end. Happened to me on my first playthrough.

I feel like there's almost too much to do in 3 though I understand why. Nearly 30 hours in and I don't think I'm even 75% through the story.

Yeah I sided with Jack and romanced her, though it was the renegade route. I later romanced Tali in Paragon but she still ended up dying.
