Miami needs better players. If they aren't making a splash, then reaching out to 2nd contract players, on the 2nd tier, isn't a bad strategy. As long as they fit, Gase can coach em up.
I don't like any of these players. We need to pick up at least one more quality starter at De or LB in free agency and none of these fit the bill. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
"Miami must show prudence with spending" That's all well and good, but then are you saying that 2018 is more of the 'go for it' season?
^^^^ Because you may be right and I somewhat feel like that, too, only in that I felt we had too many holes to adequately fill in one offseason and letting Albert walk (which I'm not necessarily disagreeing with because of his injury history) created another.
That. We need depth as was shown by the last few year. As soon as the main guy gets hurt the drop off is HUGE.
This team is going to have a steep drop off next year unless they make some serious additions when 4 pm comes around in a little bit. There are just way too many holes all over this roster on both sides of the ball and not enough resources and the names that can help are dwindling. TJ Lang or Hightower needs to be added. They are the only real impact names left at our 2 biggest positions of need. Our offense has a ton of weapons, and it wont matter one iota when our guard play is continually bringing down the entire offense, especially if Mike Pouncey keeps getting hurt and bringing down the entire interior OL. Guards are desperately important because of the way our lack of guards the last 3 years have completely ruined our running game. Ajayi was good in games that we were fully healthy, but our lack of continuity in the run game leads to bad first down runs, which short circuits our offense and puts us in 3rd and long situations that we just are not equipped to be able to convert consistently with the best teams in this league. As far as the LB position, we can invest in the draft, but we desperately need an impact free agent addition as well at LB that at the very least stabilizes our terrible LB corp because you simply cannot count on a 22 or whatever pick to be an impact immediately and this team cant afford relying on only a first round pick to immediately upgrade our LB corp. Alonso, Hightower, and a first round LB or DE would be a great way to go forward. Then we sign a guy like Chance Warmack for a smaller price at Guard who has been ok and has potential, draft another guard early, maybe sign another one closer to training camp, and we fill a lot of holes. But we cannot not sign either a top guard, LB, or DE. There has to be a move coming soon.
I don't think Hightower is happening if Timmons signs, agree with you on Guards. Miami knows they need them, but I don't think they're going to pay for one of the top ones. The question is, which one are they targeting? The rest of the DE, LB, and G can be filled throughout the draft. FO is relying on draft and coaching to succeed, Grier referenced that a lot of the successful teams don't spend big in FA, and he may be right.
Timmons for a mid level contract rather than hightower would be a fairly bad choice. Timmons has been bad for each of the last 2 years, specifically against the run, which is what we need especially from our LB's. Sorry, but we arent filling 2 G's, 2 LB's, a DE, 3rd DT, CB depth, and possible need for a starting S through the draft.
CB depth? This FO isn't going to put themselves into cap hell, so don't be disappointed when they don't swoop in and get every high-priced FA out there. It should also be noted that free agency hasn't even begun til right now, and it often takes a week or two before all of the notable signings of a team are complete.
Ya, they could use another Cb unless we want to rely highly on Lippett or Howard when they havent really shown anything other than flashes.
DOlphins in the mix for Jabaal Sheard and bringing him in for a visit. Now that would be a great move. Weird that they would sign Branch to that absurd contract for a below average player and then sign him, but still Sheard would be a major upgrade.
I could give 2 ****s your opinion about PFF. They watch 1000x more film and are a much more informed opinion about players than you who watches minimal film of players you think could help the dolphins let alone every player in the league. Timmons was one of the worst LB's against the run according to PFF and others. But please tell me your opinion based on very small film watching with 0 expertise as opposed to them and multiple other sites actually watching every player in every play.
Nick perry just re-signed with green Bay, 5 years 60 million backloaded Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Timmons has been very good and very consistent during his 10 year career. He's definitely on the older side, but he's good against the run and can cover TE's and RB's very well. Stick with PFF... you deserve each other. Haha
im sure youve watched significant film on him and other players at his position around the league. ill go ahead and follow the grades and multiple other peoples opinion that he has completely fallen off the last 2 years. But please do continue to tell me your unresearched and uninformed opinion.
Hell ya!!! counting stats!!! that should definitely override people who actually look at the film and that definitely tells the whole story!!!!! hell ya my dude!!!!
No. However, just looking at PFF's grades, not understating them or even knowing how they got the grade they did isn't really doing anything other than blindly trusting some college students. I have watched nearly every game the Steelers have played over the last 15 or so years. Timmons, albeit not as good as he was 5 years ago, would be a great pick-up if the price is right. Saying that, he could hit the age wall next year, but his play over the last few years makes him worth the risk.
The issue isnt with me, its with your lack of knowledge on the depth of their grades or what they do as opposed to you trusting your lack of knowledge, limited actual film watching opinion. continue to **** on them all you want, they are infinitely more informed than you are. You continue to **** on the people doing their actual grading incorrectly, yet you yourself have no actual qualifications yourself to make your limited film watching any more significant than their actual intensive film watching with oversight. please do continue to tell me how these people with more experience than you are wrong. I could give 2 ****s if you disagree with their opinion.
And yet.... YEEEEET... Branch just signed a new contract and was part of a VERY good DL last year and Timmons will be a starting LB in the NFL. A LB who hasn't had fewer than 100 tackles in 10 seasons
Branch was part of a DL with 2 all pros that was still awful against the run. how bad must he be? He has graded out not just below average, but horrifically for his entire career just about. Get the **** out of here with him being a part of a good DL, our DL was trash with 2 all pros. Again with the counting stats. Keep them coming.
Let me be clear...I don't have the football knowledge to even to begin to evaluate talent. But I do understand economics, and best options, etc. If what you say is true, then our whole football operation MUST be beyond incompetent. Because they didn't just resign him for the veteran minimum, they resigned him at a premium. And if they missed that badly of. Such an obvious dud...what else are they missing? Or, is it possible that maybe your overreacting a bit. I'm not being a smart ***...I'm curious.
Look, the stills signing was great, the branch signing is not. Branch is not a terrible player, but he is not worth close to 9 million per year not even close. I think the dolphins just took the keeping your own guys thing a little too seriously. They basically got rid of mario williams cap number and gave it to branch. He is not worth that much money I don't care how good of a teamate he is he has never produced to the level that would warrant this type of contract. Just keeo in mind that last season was a contract year for him and he was single teamed pretty much all season cuz wake and suh took up all the double teams on the other side of the line, and he still only managed 5.5 sacks and was terrible at setting the edge and stopping the run. You mean like using PFF as a altruistic bible? That can't be counting stats either can it. You're like a broken record except at least the record will just be chance alone produce a moment where it's in time and makes sense. Unfortunately you're more akin to a pot calling a kettle black than you are to anything else. It's hilarious. Keep it coming.
Agreed it is a horrific deal. I have been generally happy with their other moves in free agency up to this point, but the branch signing is a gross overpayment. I wouldn't have given him more than 5 or 6 million per season at the most. Maybe structure it with more incentives so he could actually earn the other 2 or 3 million per season. We are now still needing another quality starting Guard, two starting linebackers a starting free safety and a run stuffing DT. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
It's supply and demand: too few good DEs available in free agency meant that Branch's price went up. I agree with you that it's more than I expected us to pay, but I'm kinda trusting the team on this one.
