Free agent outside linebacker Jabaal Sheard will visit the Dolphins, NFL Network reported Thursday. Sheard had 13 sacks over the last two seasons with the Patriots and had five last season. The Dolphins are looking to upgrade their pass rush even after finalizing an extension with Cameron Wake. Sheard, 27, played his first four seasons with the Browns before signing with New England before the 2015 season. He has 36 career sacks.
Solid in both the run and pass, and has been at the very least good in every year without a down year since he's come into the league. Would be a great signing as our DE on the other side of Wake.
I don't think he would be a player opposite of Wake as much as he would be someone who mans Wake's position in more obvious run down or base sets. They tried to spell Wale last year and it is doubtful they would go away from it with him being one year older. Also iirc he has reduced down and played inside which is something this FO is definitively looking for.
Following Hayes trade. I don't think I'd be comfortable with 4 veteran DE's on the roster all making north of 5M. Too many other holes/needs. His demands must have made the front office balk and hence the late night trade.
