You can critisize PFF all you want, but the fact is their opinions are 1000 times more accurate and informed than any of you hacks posting on this forum.

How obtuse are you? Your very first post was as I wrote. You're changing your tune, probably because you've actually done a little looking into Timmons.

    I'm not listening.

PFF says Timmons can't cover and Branch is a horrible DE. hahaha

Hell, why do owners hire coaches? Just look at PFF and get the "best" graded players?

No, I quoted my first post to you on timmons word for word. You left out the part where I said "at this point in his career".

Post # 5 (Your 1st post about Timmons) and post #13 (Your second post about Timmons) As everybody can see, no mention of "at this point in his career". Again, you moved the goalposts AFTER I called you out. You're either lying or think your other posts have disappeared. bwhahah!

PFF "opinion" is more informed in the sense that it is based on a bigger set of data but that doesnt mean it's more accurate and even more than that it doesnt mean they are better at predicting future outcome of players combinations in what is essentially a team sport. They pretend to be accurate but they just can't be because it's an incredibly complex game to assess. Grading is hard when it's your team and you know all the plays, without it you are just guessing. And pretending to be accurate when you are guessing is dangerous.

One quick example: last season against the Bills Maxwell was burned for a long Goodwin TD and PFF gave him a bad grade. Michael Thomas then said it was his fault, not Maxwell's, because they were in cover 2.

My first response to you was that he is not a good coverage linebacker at this point in his career. And the only relevant fact is that right now he is not a good coverage linebacker. We are not signing him based on what he could do 5 or 6 years ago. We would sign him based on what he can do next season and beyond and the fact is he is not a good coverage linebacker right now.

On that play thomas took the heat but it doesn't mean maxwell played it right either. He could have slowed Goodwin down or stayed with him a little tighter since there was nobody underneath. They both played it bad and they both got bad grades for it as they should.

And you can try to criticize me all you like it doesn't mean much.

I'll tell you what send a message to Desides and ask him what I can do when I attend live games. He can tell you what I can do just looking at formations.

Others here know the story, but it's best you get it from the source. Then call me a hack.

And please stop with the continuous fallacies of arguments like the ad hominem attack as it just illustrates your inability to provide coherent legitimate arguments other than "you suck" which is a dead give away as your age and your intellectual capacity; and yes your easily Identifiable faults do signify a great deal about both items mentioned.

You've got a lot to learn sunshine, but don't worry there is still hope for you.

Those positions are not that different. You are not asking him to play quarterback or wide receiver or safety.

One aspect of this could be that when looking for inside backers, 3-4 teams often utilize outside linebackers in a 4-3 to do so.

So switching back is likely not that hard. Also as he was an OLB at FSU iirc he does have experience doing it.

Also I think some may be looking at this with too rigid a stance. Most times a MLB unless he is extremely athletic will sub out in obvious passing downs so his exposure may be limited.

Doing so would likely keep Alonso on the field on third down without him taking the pounding inside.

3-4 and 4-3 LBs are different positions, in the 3-4, 2 ILBs share the role of the Mike, with OLB/DE hybrids on the outside that have to be able to set the edge and drop, across the board 3-4 LBs tend to be bigger.

I'm a fan of Timmons, I watch a lot of Steeler games, and I've seen him slow down a bit, but I would not be surprised if he made the transition smoothly, conversely, I wouldn't be surprised if the transition took him a season.

I've always been a fan of Timmons, and I'll be rooting for him, I just question the decision of getting an aging stop gap player, who also has to change positions.

Usually the "aging stop gap player" is a long time vet at that position, he can rely on his savvy for having played the position so long, he's expected to also try to rely that experience to the young guys, that always goes with the ASGP.

Timmons is as new to this system as any rookie, but he will bring professionalism and toughness though,:excl:180, you know what, maybe this is a great idea after all, a tough Steeler LB to set the tone, he's been a Steeler LB for 10 years, Linebackerville U.S.A., easily the greatest LB factory of all NFL teams, pretty much since the 70's.

Iow, you'd be hard pressed to find a more professional hard working LB, as of right now he's our hardest hitting LB, and he will set a tone with all these young LBs, who knows, this could be the best signing at LB when all is said and done.

I understand the difference between a 3-4 and a 4-3. I have played in both defenses. While there are some specialization and some players are better suited for one or the other, they are still both pretty interchangable.

Well then where is all the interchange? Most 3-4 OLBs that move to a 4-3 become DEs, most 4-3 OLBs are too small to play LB in a 3-4, which is why there isn't much LB movement from 3-4 to 4-3 and vice versa, because they are different positions requiring different skill sets.

Your analytical skills fail you once again I am a 36 year old male with a masters degree and a successful professional career in IT. I am sure you are some kind of football genius in your own mind, but I will stick with the professionals at PFF over your expert analysis if you don't mind.

Really? Then you're exceptionally devoid of the maturity found in the arguments presented by people that age and you appear to lack the ability to put together anything other than "you suck" arguments which is odd considering your masters degree.

    I guess standards are dropping.

Reading all of the pro and con posts regarding the Timmons signing, I've seen no post regarding the most important defensive position...Defensive Coordinator.

Here's what I find extremely ironic. Vance Joseph was highly sought at the end of the season as a head coach, due to his experience and his tenure as defensive coordinator here in Miami but...Miami was at the bottom of the league in defensive yards allowed per game. Whaaaaaaat?

The Dolphins, in general, have had decent talent on the team but we have lacked the most important positions...coaching. Adam Gase has truly impressed me with his work on the offensive side of the ball and I truly believe Miami is starting to play to its potential offensively. Defensively however...with all of the talent we had last year, we lacked the coaching staff that could make the necessary adjustments to stop say, New England's prolific TE quick slants...or Pittsburgh rushing attack and allowed teams to march right down the field on us.

Don't get me wrong, the team needs GREAT players but players are truly nothing more than chess pieces on a board that are being moved by coaches. Time will tell if Matt Burke is the coach needed defensively, but I can't help but to feel skeptical. I truly would have made a move for Wade Phillips as DC. Granted, he sucks as a HC but defensively, you really can't take anything away from what he's done for teams on the defensive side of the ball.

I agree good coordinators are important, but players don't = chess pieces, chess pieces are all equal, as in all pawns are =, all knights are =, all bishops are =, and so on, and it's the team with the better players that usually wins the game, not the team with the better coordinators.

When teams are close to =, THATs when the good coaching makes the difference.

Never said great players weren't needed. I was specific in saying we needed great players but you can have great players, mediocre coaching and end up with a losing season.

Look at what Adam Gase accomplished with virtually the SAME players Joe Philbin had. You didn't like the chess analogy? Well, sorry but it is the truth
