Ok signing for a stop gap 1 year guy on the other side of Jones. He's had some OK seasons in his career, but he's also had some pretty terrible ones. We need to figure out a long term plan on the other side of Jones also. This rotating of fringe players needs to be fixed. As does the backup safety picture. Michael Thomas is a nice special teamer, but he and a few other guys need to stop being relied on as starters when our guys inevitably get injured.
Yeah, IAQ was a good fit for us. Shame about his injury. Couldn't really plan for that. Would have been nice to be able to keep him. I'm not overly thrilled with Nate Allen, but I feel like this is a spot we may see drafted early. Depending on the deal. That being said though, all things considered, I'm sure its not a signing that's going to break the bank, fills a need, he can start, so you can't be too upset about that.
"Better than the backups we had last year" seems to be the plan for the front office. Not the worst approach to take, but we might not see an impact player on defense until the draft picks are made (if they pan out).
There were rumors of the front office targeting a "big-name cornerback" before free agency opened. Obviously, this hasn't materialized yet, but I have a feeling the FO is still looking into it. Sam Shields is the best cornerback left on the market, but some teams might be willing to part with their CB's for our second or third round pick. Cleveland's Joe Haden and Los Angeles's Trumaine Johnson are on the trade block, from what I've heard. It's not too late to land an impact defender. Update: Patriots just acquired Brandin Cooks. A significant upgrade to the secondary is almost mandatory at this point, if Miami wants to keep up. Johnson would be a great matchup option on Cooks.
nate allen is a lot better than you guys are giving him credit for. he plays the run well, covers decent and will make plays. he's a capable starter, granted not a superstar or pro bowler but very capable. what I'm seeing in these early signings is we're going value and depth. the guys we're bringing in are not pro bowlers but capable solid starters that will allow us to draft BPA in each round instead of being forced to draft position
I think this accurate and smart. Good franchises use FA to augment, not build. All of these guys we've signed so far should help us in two key areas...run the ball and stop the run. The DE from the Rams is a good run defender, also Allen and Timmons.
This draft is silly deep at CB, Howard would have been a 3rd round pick if he came out this year, so don't be surprised to see multiple CBs drafted and don't be surprised if we take one early.
"Update: Patriots just acquired Brandin Cooks. A significant upgrade to the secondary is almost mandatory at this point, if Miami wants to keep up. Johnson would be a great matchup option on Cooks." Forget it. Miami's already starting the season 0-2 and both games vs NE are not winnable for this Dolphins team against a team that is 10x better coached. Our DC is an understudy to a DC that produced the worst D in Dolphin History. I seriously question Gase's worth considering he's OK with having this bum be our DC. I wouldn't worry about trying to build a team to beat the Patriots, because we're already losers at the most important position: coaching.
Yeah right? Why even play the games? You sure you're on the right message board? btw.. Gase got us to the playoffs. No reason to be down on him after his first year.
Nate Allen got better every year in Philadelphia. I'm not saying the FO won't draft another safety, but I'm not convinced this is a bad signing considering how much we're paying and the length of the deal.
lol...The Dolphins D wasn't the worst ever. They were average last year. And you're already bashing Burke? hahaha....Were you drunk by noon yesterday?
