Very clear memories of that game. The Bears were the hottest team in the league, we sucked, and Hester was tearing everyone apart as a returner. We shut Hester down and took it to them all day long. Turned the season around actually, until Ronnie Brown's hand was crushed between two helmets on Thanksgiving in Detroit.
I think you're confusing it with another year, we never reached .500 at any point of the season and only won 6 games.
Thats true. But we were some people's Super Bowl pick in the preseason (I believe SI). And starting with the Chicago game, we won 4 out of 5 games. They lost the last three after it came out that Saban was abandoning the team and going to Alabama. The team was never as bad as the 1-6 start, and had Cullpepper been able to play like an average NFL QB, should have won nine or ten games.
Yeah, I do remember the preseason hype, which I full on bought into, I thought Saban was going to be the real deal, and I think he would have if he stayed, but yeah I forgot about that PS hype, which is I guess what Travis was referring to. I thought he was saying we became a SB pick on that 4 game win streak, I remember that season quite well, JT for DPoY became what that season was about, which helped lessen the overall disappointment of the season, JT was other worldly that year.
