its an ok move. But he's a strong safety type. We still need a true starting free safety. Sent from my F3111 using Tapatalk
Strange, but cheap, signing. We probably won't have to use a pick on a safety now. We're going to picking other positions while other teams pick CBs and safeties. Could be a bad thing, could be a good thing.
ESPN Yesterday: "The discipline stems from a May arrest in Woodland Hills, California. McDonald, a former collegiate star at USC, was suspected of driving under the influence of prescription drugs and pleaded no contest in January to one charge of "wet reckless" from that incident. Under that wet reckless charge -- essentially a reduced form of DUI -- McDonald was sentenced to 36 months' probation. He also was ordered to serve 200 hours of community service, attend 18 Narcotics Anonymous classes, enroll in a one-month live-in residential drug program and pay a fine of about $1,900, as well as restitution to the owner of a parked car he struck during the incident. The second-highest-ranked unsigned free agent in the ESPN 150, McDonald visited the Miami Dolphins -- his first free-agent visit -- on the same day he learned of his suspension, a source told ESPN's Field Yates. An aggressive, ball-hawking strong safety, McDonald started all 53 games he played for the Rams during his four-year career, compiling four interceptions, 18 pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, five sacks and 215 solo tackles. He was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. McDonald started every game in 2016 and was graded 58th among 89 qualified safeties by Pro Football Focus. The Rams figured punishment from the NFL would eventually come down on McDonald but were going to move on anyway. Maurice Alexander is expected to transition to strong safety to replace McDonald, and slot corner Lamarcus Joyner has a strong chance of playing free safety when the Rams are in their base 3-4 set."
Low risk move, the kind that Philbin would never have approved of. We'll have good depth at Safety for the second half of the season, as long as TJ does not go off the rails.
This is a great signing. He has graded out as a good safety each of the last 3 years. We always have safety issues. I thought it was very important to sign another starting caliber safety to make sure that Michael Thomas or Aikens arent a defensive starter if one injury happens. Thomas is ok depth, but he shouldnt be one injury away from being a starter and this guy is a legitimate player in the league and this is a no risk signing.
I didn't think about that, all players get an appeal. Does anyone know if this is his first drug incident? That's usually just 3 or 4 games, isn't it? Maybe he got more for the car accident part of the incident. That would be sweet if he could play sooner....but I like the move regardless. Locking in a veteran for the league minimum and he doesn't take up a roster spot for the first half of the year? Brilliant move regardless of what happens.
His tweets reveal in subtle ways he doesn't believe he's changed yet, but wants or intends to. Here's hoping he succeeds. "I've got to be hungry, stay clean. Make sure this doesn't happen again. ... I don't have any wiggle room." Admitting he's facing an uphill battle, and almost fearful of the prospect of zero tolerance. "I'm definitely paying a price for the mistakes I've made. I'm definitely going to learn from it." Honest and candid, I would be more optimistic to read he's already learned from it.
I think he's going to be fine. Lots of people make mistakes in their 20s. He's already proven that he can play football (unlike Dion Jordan), and I think he realizes what is at stake for him at this point. This will prove to be a very good signing in my opinion. Quite possibly the steal of free agency.
Really. People read everything into anything now. When I read it I had a totally different "take" on it. But hey, I'm not a phycologist or write for the media like you 2 must be. Those are the 2 professions that seem to think they know how to glean the hidden meaning in regular words.
Some of us like to think. I've got to be hungry, stay clean. Make sure this doesn't happen again. Do you not see a difference in saying I am going to as opposed to I've got to. I am going to stay on my diet, I really got to stay on the diet. I am going to work out more, I've really got to work out more.
Not everyone speaks in the same way. To me it showed he was in the here and now and gets it. But like I said I'm not clairvoyant and know what people are thinking or the hidden meaning in tweets or even spoken words. Seems everyone is an expert on what someone means now. I hate social media. It's the bane of our society - except for this board of course. :-)
