As much as crucifying Tannenbaum is chic, I really think that things feel different. I don't think we are making crazy reaches, and I doubt see any of the players that we have taken as complete busts. Even if we haven't drafted a superstar, I see how these guys fit within the roster. Moreover, although the offseason does not feel perfect, I see how we are building our roster.

I really like how all the picks so far were fast and decisive. First two picks were in as fast as they were on the clock. Tells me they were targeting those guys, were confident in the evals and fit for the team and united in the decision. That is a good thing whether the picks pan out or not.

They're all good fits to me. They're all needs. Especially when you consider Wake's age. Timmons age. Maxwell's deal. Bring the pups in now, let em learn, fill your needs, get your targets. Hard to get a superstar late in rounds like that, usually they are going to have to do some growing/developing. That's where we've struggled too though, not just player selection, but player development. IF this staff can continue to get the best out of players, we should continue to see improvement in the roster, and some of these selections from this weekend become solid players.

Feels like we have have a plan and our board reflects it. I see all 3 contributing right away and that's exciting.

There is a definite culture change happening. We are not selling out for an all in on one season like the Jets use to. We are slowly and soundly building an organization. You can see it in the FO staff and with the players willing to sign with us and even work team friendly deals to stay. I am on record as wanting Shanahan to get the job but I will definitely say things have changed since Gase arrived on the scene. His arrival seems to have really put the change in motion. I will gladly eat crow and admit Gase was a great choice as I can honestly say that for the first time in a long time I have hope that things are moving in the right direction and am not just going season to season on blind faith. Thank You Miami from a 41 year old lifelong fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could very well be wrong, but I have a feeling that Gase is actually having a strong influence in the draft and unlike past head coaches, who had to take what was given to them, Gase is getting what HE wants.

I have a feeling (sadly) that Miami's 2nd year head coach will have the proverbial sophomore slide this season (hell, 12,613 miles in 6 weeks will take its toll on anyone!) but after seeing what Adam Gase did with this team last year as a first year coach, I BELIEVE in Adam Gase!

I'm not all that confident on a playoff appearance this year but with everything Gase is doing, with the players he is getting and setting the tone that HE is the boss and not some prima dona on the field...come NEXT season when Gase should have a full team of what he wants? Boy oh boy oh boy....New England who?????

We are slowly building our roster up. To the point where we don't have to say "OMG OMG OMG but he can only play X downs"!

We aren't drafting like a desperate team for the first time in a long time.

I think this is a great assessment of the offseason. Feels like we've been taking singles instead of swinging for the fences repeatedly.

Yes I believe the times they are a changin! Harris will obviously see significant reps. Raekwon is said to have a high football IQ so he may step right in as well.Cordrea is tall and quick.Asiata, well what do you need to say, he is big and nasty. We may have four starters right away!

Lots of random thoughts and it is too early to tell, but I like some things and not some others. I like that there was no big trade up and we waited for players. I think this was a good year to let it play out with the depth at a lot of positions we were looking for. Still not a big fan of Tannenbaum. I wish he would go after players who were less narrow in their abilities. Seems like we go after players who are good at one thing but have other glaring weaknesses that might be exploited by the opposition, especially Harris vs. the run.
By the way, does anyone else wish we had grabbed Zach Cunningham instead of McMillan? I'm still worried about our run D, but maybe not having razor thin LB's to start the year and then get hit by injuries will help as well as the additions in FA (Timmons) and the draft. Either there is a lot of confidence that coaches can put players in perfect situations, or that we have schemes that will cover them. Feels like Harris is a situational pass rusher, but then maybe one of the DT's we drafted later is expected to play earlier downs on the edge instead of DT, where I read that he played a little light at DT anyway. Plus, with 2 drafted it may indicate they are thinking of a conversion. Overall, I'm still optimistic though. In the case of Tankersley, I guess you go after the specialist to shut down Gronk / other TE's, but I recall hearing there was another guy available that could do that as well as more on regular WR's without the penalty issues Tankersley has. I forgot the name though. It does seem like they have confidence in what they are going after at least. I am cautiously optimistic. Love the Asiata pick. Hearing he is really physical and nasty!
Hey, we made the playoffs last year with a bunch of backups on defense. Excited for this year to see how this all plays out.

Nice to see some familiar names here. Looking forward to getting to know more of you.

    "Familiar names", aye... ;-)

TBaum gets a lot of hate still from his stej days, but he has oversaw 3 solid drafts IMO that netted us Ajayi, Parker, Phillips, Tunsil, Howard, and Drake; and this draft gave us an attacking pass rusher for our D front in Harris, a fast tackling machine that can play SAM or Mike in McMillan, a press CB in Tankersley, a beast at guard in Asiata, a couple rotational DT's, and solid WR prospect for depth. I've had no real beef with Tbaum or Grier outside of the Carroo trade, but I get that Parker and Stills battle injuries each season.

As for Harris, we didn't draft him to shore up the Run D. We signed Haynes for that, signed Timmons, then drafted McMillan and 2 DT's. Harris has only been playing football a few years though and has plenty of room to improve. Wake flat out sucked vs the run to begin with and he still isn't the best. Both these guys are QB seeking missles off the line though.

As for Cunningham vs McMillan, Cunningham isn't a sure tackler and doesn't play with violence or attitude. McMillan lead that Ohio State defense in tackling for 2 straight years. I'd have preferred Davis, but in no way am I disappointed that we got McMillan.

Agree on Tank and Asiata. Looking forward to OTAs and camps. Going to be a fun season.
