This kid deserves his own thread. He's the best wr to ever come out of Rutgers. Pretty ridiculous stats against solid competition. One scouting report read, "A more explosive Anquan Boldin"...lol, what?! We are not drafting boy scouts, that's for certain. Yet another bad *** that was completely off my radar. I don't really care about the picks, I knew Tannenbaum was going to do this. Bottom line is we are adding another stud receiver. Weird, right!?
Very well-rounded WR, can play outside or slot, good hands, good catch radius, adjusts to bad throws, tough, quick, excellent route runner. I like the talent, but I'm not a fan of what we had to give up to get him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGRavkVgp3Y
He's one of those picks that you like, but at the same time question because of what we gave up to get him, especially when you consider we already have Landry, Parker and Stills at the top of our depth chart. That said, the kid is clearly talented and could make an impact on this team.
Love love this pick! Did not think we would go offense again but it seems we're going to have some real playmakers on offense this kid is like Landry tough physical and Aplha wonder if he's going to replace stills at some point. He's fast big and nasty to play against!!
Forget Anquan Boldin...what we need him to be is better than R. Matthews. If he is, compared to what it would have taken to keep Matthews, this is an upgrade. Hopefully, we can continue to draft players that will adequately replaced higher priced departed FAs...keeps us out of salary cap hell.
Paraphrasing, but I read an scouting report today that said "he's at least a number 2 NFL WR. If he's your #3, you must have one Hell of a WR corps" Well, he's not going to be higher than #2 for us obviously, so I love the idea of having the ability to just line up in Gase's offense and throw the ball to the open man.
You put all four of them on the field and let defenses try and find enough bodies to cover all of them. That isn't going to happen, especially if we can finally start protecting the QB better.
I think he's good value where we got him, but I don't like all the picks we gave up to get him, I would have been happy if we drafted him instead of Drake, and kept all our picks. He is a lot like Matthews imo, he plays bigger than he is because he has great overall body strength, he doesn't get jostled in coverage, the CBs do, and he runs through arm tackles, and he is much more polished than Matthews was coming out.
I'm personally not psyched about it either, but it's a different approach that I agree with in theory. He's a role player that could have a huge impact if used correctly. This is a Patriots approach. Find guys who aren't huge names, but can do specific things really well, and put them in a position to succeed. It's a different view than we've seen in the past. It's going to take some time to earn the fans trust with moves like s honestly, but I can see what they're thinking and they obviously have a plan. I respect that.
Finster, you are on the ball today. I like him but we gave up sooooo much to get him. I think he is a bit of a luxury pick. Certainly, he enters the year as the 4th or 5th receiver (I thought it was telling that the Phins kept Hazel on the roster. I think they knew if he was on the PS, he would've been claimed.) If he would've fell to us, and we just took him, I would've liked this pick much more. I thought we were alright at WR going into the draft. I thought we might a) draft a WR late b) bring in a few undrafted WRs c) sign a cheap vet d) grab a WR off waivers on the last wave of cuts But alas, injuries certainly happen at the WR position, a lot and he really gives us upside depth + WR position flexibility.
Isn't Stills a FA next year? This pick makes a lot of sense. Not too worried about the "cost" if you get the right guy
I especially like him for us, because he fills a role, I think he will be one of our starting boundary WRs, when we let Matthews go that left us with no true SE/X WR, neither Stills or Parker are great on line, especially Stills, both those guys are flanker/Y WRs, they are much better off with a little cushion to work off of to defeat the press. This gives us a full complement of role specific WRs, which imo, allows the O to operate more smoothly.
I see how he definitely fills a void, but I am confused as to how much you project him on the field this year. I think that Juice and Parker are pretty much always going to be on the field (true starters). I could also see Mr. McGoo playing the boundary and Juice sliding into the slot in certain three receiver sets. I also think there are situations where Stills could play boundary with Juice in the slot, and there are situations where Stills plays outside and Juice moves inside. I would definitely like McGoo over Stills closer to the end zone with his size. Can you clarify and tell me how much you see him on the field next year? Thanks.
First off, Landry is always in the slot, with very few exceptions, so Stills and Parker would have been the boundary WRs, for all intents and purposes Landry is always WR#3, even if he leads the team in catches, the boundary WRs are #s 1 and 2, for placements sake, for most targeted that is a different story, but for operating an offense the boundaries are 1 and 2. So now we have a SE on one side, a flanker on the other side and Landry in the slot, a WR for each of the different WR roles. It's entirely possible that Carroo doesn't get into the line up right away, there is a learning curve that often WRs must get before they are getting in games, but I think he's pretty polished so I'm thinking he'll adapt very quickly.
Jet fans are upset about our Caroo pick . That can only be good. Similar skill set as Landry but in a bigger body.
Man, Tanne is freakin' now. We got a stud LT, who, at one time, was considered one of the best players in the draft,. Someone who will help the whole OL. We have receivers like Parker, Landry and now Caroo. Wish we got TE, Higbee later on, but still, good stuff. We have the QB whisperer in Gase. Tanne is wiggin' out!!!
Sounds like a classic "motivation" move to me. But we'll see. We are incredibly deep. I think our UDFA WR have two that could be on opening day rosters.
I don't think Miami gives up on him in year 2. We need to see if Parker can be the WR he is supposed to be
Either that or they want to drum up trading partners. "When" we give Juice his contract Caroo can only be at best, our 4th WR. Tbaum gave up too much and he knows it.
I'd love to have WR as a strength for years to come. No team has enough corners to cover the potential we have, and if you add Julius Thomas, it is a complete nightmare. We have developed and drafted or traded for very young wideouts. It wasn't like free agent busts of the past
Wow, that was a complete 360 from last year. Oops. It's ok to be wrong, why try and show you were "right" and saw this coming, when you were praising the pick previously.
The only way he's not on this roster is through trade, no way he gets released in his 2nd year, without even getting into what they gave up for him, you don't cut 2nd year 3rd round WRs.
You don't really have to cover potential. Potential doesn't get on the field if it cannot learn the offense or get serious about its job. I think we gave up too much for him, but hopefully he gets serious like Parker is supposedly doing.
He won't be kept if someone is playing better than him. That's the way this staff operates. It's why Williams was benched in favor of Branch. Draft/salary status be damned.
I don't know if that's true. Williams primarily manned Wakes positions early in the season. The switch was made as Williams was t producing and to get Wake on the field more.
caroo has a long way to go to reach Richard Matthews level though.. watch out for Drew Morgan, I've studied him pretty good, I think he has a chance..and he already flashed apparently.
The guy was extremely productive in college, that's what we traded for...very few were panning the move last year. And if it doesn't work out and Carroo is a bust, better to cut bait sooner than later.
