Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry is heading into the final year of his contract, but he has been a regular presence at the team’s workouts this offseason rather than taking the approach of staying away in hopes of spurring talks about an extension. Landry didn’t shy away from saying that he wants that extension on Wednesday, but he also said it isn’t the biggest thing in his mind as the team moves closer to the end of their offseason program. Landry, who predicted a Dolphins sweep of the Patriots during the 2017 season, said he’s focused on winning and isn’t setting a deadline for a deal to get done. “I don’t really have a breaking point,” Landry said, via Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald. “Honestly, I’m at the point in my life where I’m set, I’m comfortable with the position I’m in right now. Again, I’m here to help my team get to the Super Bowl, and it starts with me being here. I can’t be one of those guys that sit out or not show up or just bring bad whatever to the organization. It’s just something for me that I know that I needed to be here.” Coach Adam Gase, in comments distributed by the team, said the way “we kind of do things here is put your head down and work and things will work out.” He also made reference to “an evolving process over the years” when asked about Landry and quarterback Ryan Tannehill working together, which suggests the team plans on having Landry around for a while even if they haven’t secured his place on the team just yet. Either he'll accept that his value is similar to the deals signed by Keenan Allen and Doug Baldwin, or he'll get the tag next winter. Hopefully he comes around.
Multiple stories have said that the very reason he hasn't yet been signed is that he wants way too much.
Its all monopoly money to the owners anyway. What is his market value? Probably not as high as his value to the Phins I'm guessing but just imagine if the Giants think he's the missing link? Or the Pack? Vegas maybe? He will get paid after next season. Why not take the discount you get this year to keep him here?
Let me get this straight. Tannehill is back, Parker is focused and Thomas is at TE. So teams won't double team Landry? Contract year? There are 41 players ranked above him? I'd sign him today because by Nov his numbers and value to this team could be through the roof
Are you willing to pay him as if he's Julio Jones or Antonio Brown? As much as any of us like him, Landry is not a top 5 WR in the NFL, and he's not going to be paid like that.
I really hope not. If our front office gives him a mega contract like that, it will kill our cap situation.
I like Landry a lot. Not sure how good he is. We have seen Hartline and Bess put up solid numbers with Tannehill focusing his throws to them and they turned out not to be so great long term. I would pay him slightly above market, but not top 5 money.
when a big play is needed he is there. his value to the team is beyond what his position is. he is the safety valve and he is the guy to depend on because Parker can't stay healthy. Imagine this offense w/o him and you will realize his value
I get that notion, but to me, it's pretty obvious watching Jarvis Landry play football that he's got probably 10 times more talent on a bad day than Hartline and Bess combined, not to mention heart and passion for the game. As for Landry, I think it's so good, and refreshing to see his attitude here. Sure he could be a pain, and not show up like his buddy Beckham, but instead, here he is, working his tail off to get himself and the team better rather than worrying about himself and his bank account. He know's he's getting paid, it's just a matter of when... and possibly where if the rumblings you hear of his demands are true.
everyone talks about him being a slot WR and acts like he just does circle routes all day. He averages more per catch than any of those NE WR's like Amendola and Edelman. Ad he had more 20+ plays. Posters here just don't get it. He may lineup in the slot, but what he does after the snap is not slot-like. He breaks tackles (was a leader in yards after contact) and if you saw the jets and AZ game, can take it the distance.
I agree on Hartline, but not Bess, I think he's extremely similar to Bess, better but not by much imo.
Every game. Every play. Did you actually watch Bess or Hartline play? They do much of the same things for Tannehill. Check Bess, like 90% of his catches were 1st downs, something insane like that. Bess smoked his way out of the NFL, but he did a lot of what Landry does for the Dolphins. That is why I question how good Landry is. Not only am I questioning it but apparently so are many on the board here and upper management as well. It is very easy to make their arguement since we have seen similar receivers for Ryan. You are implying he is top 5 talent, do you watch anything but the Dolphins? Any other WR's?
Landry is a very useful player. A good guy to have around, and seemingly a good guy in the lockerroom. But he's not Julio Jones. He's not AJ Green, or Dez Bryant, or Mike Evans or Jordy Nelson, or Antonio Brown, or his buddy Beckham. And he won't be paid as if he were. If he won't agree to a fair extension this offseason, then so be it. Tag him after the season, try again, and if he still won't cooperate, then trade him and move on.
TOTALLY agree! He could be balls deep in the I'm not feeling the love ferret right now. But instead he;s soldiering on and proving that he;s a pro and has faith in the team. I do not understand why it's taking so long to get him a deal though. It's not beneficial as each day he's expecting it more and more. He's good to not mention it but it's close to a travesty to have him twisting in the wind this long if that's what the Phins are doing. I'm sure unbeknownst to us and the media, there have been multiple conversations and they are shifting money around to give him a deal commensurate with both side's averaged opinion of his value.
I like Bess. I remember that some TC writer had described him as having vacuums for hands. However, I have to support Dirty Landry here in the fact that while we've all been watching the Phins for numerous decades, we haven't seen someone that had the leadership capabilities, fire and on field abilities of Landry since Welker I would say. Before Welker, It would have been OJ. I mean its a really short list and the Besses, Hartlines, Martins, Gadsdens and Chamberses can't wash Landry's car. They can't even wash Landry's goat. And, I don't even know if he has a goat but in my mind he totally has a goat and the goat's name is Fred and Landry doesn't even like that goat. So those guys can't even wash Fred - Landry's goat that we're not sure he has but if he does he is a dirty unloved goat they can't wash.
Bess had 10.4, 10.5, 12.8 YPR Landry 9, 10.5, 12.1. Same kind of receiver. Bess was never targeted the way Landry has been. Bess' bess was 124 while Jarvis has been targeted more then that 2 times in his career with a high of 166 targets. Don't get me wrong. I like Landry and I am probably closer to you in how you like him compared to others, just not going to say he is a top 5 WR like Jones, and some of the others mentioned. We've gotten similar production out of that spot before. I totally agree without question he is a leader and spark plug,
Bess did start smoking like he was Rastafari, lol, but it was after his neck injury that basically ended his career.
All in all. He could get pricier not cheaper. I would sign him soon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Landry is more valuable to this team than Jones, Stills, Kiko, Suh or Tannehill. Pay the man Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree except for the tag, because then you are paying him top 5 money, and once the tag runs out he can't be traded, he'll turn into a compensatory pick.
I wouldn't have been opposed to flat out trading him before this past draft, but they didnt. So the only way to recoup anything now would be to tag him and then try to move him. Any such deal would involve the other club redoing his contract, so the big number isn't a huge issue.
a big misconception based on lack of long speed and smaller stature..landry is highly talented..uniquely talented what Juice is elite at.. Hands..Balance..YAC..Stop start quickness..agility..coordination..vision..core strength..intangibles.. 12.5mill a year...5/62.5..25 mill guaranteed... plus, the secret weapon..Our owner giving him security of life after football.
and that attitude has to be put into perspective as it relates to helping his team win and his impact on others players performance.. Its one of the reasons why I think Suh is worth the money.
Its not monopoly money when there is a salary cap and other needs. They need to pay him, but not overpay.
Did you just say he was better than Odb, AJ green, Julio Jones, mike Evans, etc? Just want to clarify. I know you're a huge fan (duh) but let's not get delusional here.
I gotta tell you a story. 2015 I had a little extra $$$ so we took the fam to Dworld. Part of the deal was I got to go to Miami, see my Dolphins play at home for the first time since I was 7. VS the yets. Last game of the season. Got end zone field level tickets. Went to pick up my car Saturday morning to drive down to the game...sorry sir we overbooked and don't have a car for you. Weekend before Xmas. Not a car to be had in the state of Fla. Ended up having to catch a bus and a couple of very expensive taxis. 6 hrs to get from Orlando, barely made kick off. MAJOR FLIPPIN STRESS!!! Taxi driver pulled in to the stadium, took one look at the line up and said, this is your stop. My fat white NW azz was sweating, frazzled, just pissed off at the world! And when I stepped up on the sidewalk, this righteous soul brother who I will never know but never forget says, hey! You look like you could use this! And hands me over the fence the most beautiful, dripping, so Ice cold it was steamy Heineken I have ever had in my LIFE. The high point of the trip I tell ya.
