4 years $52M reportedly. Let's see if there are some options in there. Four years is a long term to pay a guy based off of a 50 or so game performance. Hopefully he's that guy or better for the remainder of this deal. The per year number isn't bad, though.

After this free agency period, Justise Winslow will be the most scrutinized 21 year old in South Florida. He needs to figure out how to play offense.

I can live with Dion Waiters being Tyler Johnson against the cap.

If Miami waives and stretches McRoberts, they'll have about $27M left. That should be enough to re-sign JJ and sign Gay. Then they'd have the exception to take a flyer on someone, or bring back Reid. And that is also including Ellington option. At this point, it probably makes the most sense to just hang on to him.

EDIT: Apparently, that $27M is without Ellington. It also includes the small cap hold for Babbitt.

That contract is a bargain considering what guards are getting paid these days... i was thinking 15 million per was the max you give a guy like waiters and he got 13. Good job Andy Elisburg there are guards less talented than waiters making more than him...

Jr smith is on a 4 year 57 million deal... ill take waiters over jr smith any day

Looks like they're getting the band back together.

Also, apparently there are rumors that Utah is willing to do a sign and trade for Boston to get Hayward. Boston can't currently afford him and has been shopping Bradley, Smart, Crowder. So the thinking is one or some of those guys can come back to Utah, and Boston would have enough to fit Hayward under the cap.

Woj says Waiters has officially signed. The Heat are also working on setting up a meeting with Rudy Gay.

We were on 60 win pace last year, kept the same team, added a lotto stud (Next Friday), were getting Winslow back, and should see improvements from Whiteside.

    I'm ready for the season.

sigh i really don't want to rely on gay coming off that injury. I'm just not sure we have better options considering Winslow's lack of offensive game. Also, I doubt the heat would want to rehash Beasley for the 80th time. Timmy jr would be an interesting look maybe tbh.

The Dion contract is going to end up being the greatest steal of all time.

I'm hoping for the best with Winslow. He's had a run of bad luck with injuries. It was his wrist injury that f'd up his shooting. I'm looking for him to meet his potential this season.

I don't think they're going to "rely" on him. This was a good team in the 2nd half last year and can play without him. If they sign him, it shouldn't be for very much, and if he works out it's a big bonus.

As for Winslow, it boggles my mind that people ignore the fact that he just turned 21 and has only played 96 games in the NBA. Yet somehow Heat fans just assume his offense will stay the same.

I remember last year around this time when almost every Heat fan was complaining about signing Waiters. Now it's a great move. The lesson here is to give things some time and trust this organization.

Eh, they'll figure it out, but being forced to trade Crowder is ridiculous management on Ainge's part.

As for the Heat, Waiters deal is pretty good. He's either an above contract performer for us or a good trade piece

I wonder what the TJ plan is. Doesn't really make sense to put $35 million into two non star SG. And we've seen enough of TJ the point guard to know that dog won't hunt

I think we keep both. The reason for our success in the second half of the season was mostly due to our depth in our guards (dragic, mcgruder, dion, tj) we didnt miss a beat when one sat down, they each added something different to the table.

We will likely have James Johnson back with Winslow, either can play the 3 and 4. We have Bam who will be able to play the 4 and 5, switching with Hassan. We are knee deep in just about any rotation we can throw out there at any given moment.

Spoelstra really turned that guys career around here in Miami... he was on fire beyond the arc... which annoyed me when he started giving richardson his minutes when richardson couldnt find a rhythm..

They're trading Crowder to try and open a max cap slot for next year. They supposedly put Marcus Smart on the block as well.

    Plan B.

Riley said before when a team goes 30-11 in the second half of the year they deserve a chance to come back and try again. The goal is to get as many of the same players back. They realize that's probably not possible with Willie Reed, but I think they've reached out anyway.

The contract is actually less than 52 million.. it can reach up to 52 million if all the incentives are met. So i wonder what goes against our cap now. Probably 10 million the first year

I jinxed Bam. I was about to point out he's 25 of 32 (78%) from the free throw line this SL...then he missed one. Now 26 of 33.

The more I think about this, I am glad we are sticking with last year's team. Most of the key players are still ascending, and I think they are getting good at finding D-League talent. Keep with it, and keep building. They were pretty good last year when everything clicked. Add one or two guys again from the D-League and just keep it going. The reality is that the Warriors are the new Heatles only better, so keep your team sensibly constructed and be patient. And who knows? With a little luck Dion takes off, Bam takes off, and you never know. Curry signed a 4 year, 48 million dollar deal at one point and now? He's worth the $200 million.

There's still the MLE. Utah can probably offer him more, but if Gay really wants to be in Miami, he could still take a prove it deal.

I was really impressed by last year's team once they got relatively healthy. I don't see their second half record as a fluke. I saw a ton of good, fundamental basketball. Really the only guy I question being able to replicate his level of play is Waiters. He made a ton of clutch shots last season. I don't tend to believe in "clutch". Stats tend to show that given a large enough sample size players will shoot about their average regardless of whether the situation is clutch or not. It's more about muscle memory and the practice you've put in b/c at that level the game is too fast to be thinking about the pressure of the shot. But players do develop and improve their skills. That's what you're betting on with Waiters. I think that players tend to improve in Miami b/c the staff and culture gets them to practice more efficiently and just more overall. That ends up paying dividends on the court.

I think people are dismissing the Heat b/c they don't have any big names and the overall record was poor b/c of the mash unit they had to roll out the first half of the season. Their biggest name is Whiteside and that doesn't get as much attention in a G and wing focused league. And even Whiteside started off as a FA journeyman. He doesn't have that early first round pick pedigree.

No. they are trading him to fit Hayward within the cap this year. They gotta pay their 5'-2" PG $200mil next year, and that makes them a heavy Luxury Tax team.
