Building the brand: How Jarvis Landry plans to conquer the NFL - on the field and off

"Elevating his brand to prime-time status will mean putting the ball in the end zone more frequently," Schwartz said. "Look at the top receivers in the game today - Odell Beckham, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown - and they're all household names, scoring twice as many touchdowns as Jarvis year after year. Catches move the ball down the field, but big scoring plays and winning are the best ways to build a personal brand in today's highlight-obsessed NFL."

Landry surely knows this. He's in a contract year, and touchdowns could also be the difference between good money and elite money.

"I wish there was a true blueprint, then everybody would follow it," Landry said of truly going national. "I've been blessed with the platform that I have. I'm staying true to myself. And let my work speak for itself."

I think everyone knows that he's a superstar- not many receivers running a 4.7 40 get double teamed in the NFL. Heck, he may be the only one.

Miami isn't a team that scores a lot of TD's - period. We are S FL and we should have superstars, however, the conservative nature of the team in recent years makes players less popular. Gase helped Kenny get money, and I'm sure he will make Jarvis a very rich man

This article causes me pause more than it does positive feelings. Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson (aka Ochocinco), Randy Moss and the worst of all, Deion Sanders...phenomenal wide receivers who were more prima dona, all about themselves and building their own "brand" than they were about a genuine TEAM player. Please keep in mind, I'm taking NOTHING away from the talent of these receivers. There were incredible, but I couldn't stand any of them as they were more about themselves.

I pray to God Jarvis Landry follows more in the footsteps of a Jerry Rice, Cris Carter, the "Marks" Brothers, Nat Moore and Wes Welker...phenomenal receivers who were respected by fans for what they did on the field and not for running their mouths...and becoming a cancer in the locker room.

so far so good on being a cancer. I think today's WR always looks to be marketable

Wide receivers, in general, have been prima donas since the 90's and I can't stand any of them that have been!

Dion Sanders brought two teams Superbowls. He was the opposite of a cancer.

That's a pretty bold statement. San Francisco was already a Super Bowl caliber team and the addition of Deion Sanders didn't "bring" a Super Bowl. The 49ers also added Ken Norton Jr, Gary Plummer, Ricky Jackson, Bart Oates, Richard Dent and Charles Mann in addition to Sanders, so let's keep things in perspective.

Dallas was already a Super Bowl caliber team thanks to Jimmy Johnson with Troy Aikmen, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin and Daryl Johnson. The addition of Sanders wasn't the factor that "brought" a Super Bowl to Dallas.

And as I am an avid Sanders hater I'll also *** this. Deion Sanders sucked as a DB and here's why...he was a WIMP and avoided being hit. Quarterbacks that knew this never threw to the outside when Sanders was covering as they knew his speed could result in an interception however, if the QB threw to the inside, Sanders got out of the way because he was too much of a KITTYKAT (bypassing the filter) to take a hit.

Absolutely LOVED the 1996 NFC Championship game between Panthers and the Cowboys when Sanders had to be carted off the field when he was rolled up on.

Sorry, when it comes to Sanders, I tend to go on a rant!

Deion Sanders was one of the best DBs of all time. hate him all you want, but to say he wasn't one of the best players to play the position is just wrong.

If he wasn't such an arrogant prima dona on and off the field, I could appreciate his talents more than I do. Did he have the weakness of being thrown to the inside? Yep, but then again, EVERY player has weaknesses so it is what it is. My overall point going back to this particular string though is this...

I don't want to see Jarvis Landry focus more on a "brand" and become that arrogant prima dona that I can't stand. I want Landry to have the character and dignity of Rice, Carter, Welker and Moore.

Carter was more of a cancer than Deion Sanders. He was let go from the Eagles for being a drunk and a prima dona who only wanted to catch touchdowns.

He is the greatest cover corner this game has ever seen.

Seriously? That is absolutely insane. He seems to pull in 3-5 ridiculous, circus catches per year that 90% of all receivers couldn't make. Heck, that deep one along the sidelines that he was diving for and had to take his eyes off the ball to twist for it....it was voted as one of the top catches of 2016. Plus the few TD's where he bulldozed through multiple guys and drug them several yards, the behind the back catch he made, etc...I just don't see how it's possible that people aren't nuts over him. He may legit have the best hands in the league.

LOL, he needs to hire me as his social media guy- I'll get the NFL fans straightened out.

Landry? I see a lot of comments and it's mixed. Lots of non-Dolphins giving him props. That said, he needs more 50 yard catches for TDs to become a star. And to really become a star, he'd need to be even more loud and obnoxious. AJ Green and Julio are not superstars. OBJ is.

He's a slot receiver. A damn good one at that. But is he gonna pull a 1500/10TD/19ypc season like Victor Cruz? That's what you need to do to become a star and media darling in the slot. Too many great WR where you have to be up there with them in stats, AND be a character

IMO all Landry needs to become a star is more highlight plays (usually TDs) and more team wins.

I just like the tone he sets. He wants to be a superstar. Why not. He seems like he is going about it in a blue collar kind of way. Even the swag he promotes seems to be good quality well designed affordable stuff. Landry is just my kind of player. A little cocky, but he backs it up. And I've never seen a me first attitude from him. He plays for the team.

AJ green is probably my favorite receiver in the league. He was putting up mad yardage last year and that's with Andy Dalton throwing. Give him someone like Matt Ryan he'd be talked about even More

i go with Julio Jones. I think Julio is a little bit more explosive. However, they are so close, I think having to choose between the two would be a quality problem.

I agree. I see the same thing in Cam Newton which makes me hate him as much as Deion. Total flamboyant showboat. With the pimp hats and shiny suits, and the dap and the drama. I totally detest Cam Newton. Like with every fiber of my soul.

the talent of aj green is why it is no slight in saying our guy Parker is just a notch below..which could still make him top 10 if he's serious about being a pro..Parker is a gifted receiver and can be a great player, AJ's ceiling is the best in the game.

I just don't know what this means: "I'll give to Julio because he was about to run up on Joe Budden when they were about to fight Migos"

Sure, I can write in a speech patoire or use banal slang but I thought we were supposed to write in English on here. Don't have any problem with any ethnicity just want to be able to read and comprehend what's typed is all.

It's not just that. They are poking fun at you not liking Newton, Deion, and to write it in a Caucasian way.

In other words, you forgot your Klan renewal application as well. Remember to sign it.

I think right now, you got to give it up to AB, last 4 years, 481 rec, 6300yds, 43 TDs and a 69% catch rate.

    That is wildly productive.
