http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...is-training-in-florida-with-hopes-of-playing/ So does this mean if he cant get more than $6m he would sit? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've been in on the guy, I think its a calculated move that makes sense on multiple levels for our team..not a rash not thought out decision for me.. im usually against the signing of a vet like this but I believe the guy will be physically right to play this season, and properly motivated, and would be a tremendous asset to our very young group of corners.. go get him Mike T.
For a team to give me $7m guaranteed let's just say, at this point, after a bad year , is crazy, but I believe someone will who thinks they are close and have space. NE comes to mind. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Revis island had all the trees on it blown down in a typhoon. All there is now are sand, rocks, and booby birds flying around pooping on everything. Maybe an occasional seal or three, Plastic water bottles and old flip flops all along the high water line. It's just sad really. But there are still some Real estate developers out there trying to find investors to build an exclusive resort on it. Just give me 6-10 million dollars they say, it'll be fabu. So you say what a bargain, famous island, cheap new resort yea baby I'm in!!! And you barge over some heavy equipment and start clearing land... and the bull dozer breaks, and misses the rest of the season, after the next typhoon all that's left is the rusting shell of the dozer, even the boobies are gone to find a new island.
I been preaching for Revis, but at $7M a year, I am lukewarm now at best. I didn't realize at $6M, he could stay home. I still think someone will pay, and it will be a marketable team, like the Cowboys or Pats
I agree with you here Raf...I think Revis is overrated. He may have one more good season left in him, but as it is right now, I equate Revis to Deion Sanders after he left Dallas and went on to the Redskins. He's no longer the dominant DB that he once was.
we need nickel corners, badly. Can't have enough. Revis I am sure is better than some folks that will make our team
I think the cap is a huge factor now, last week I took a peek at the cap and was surprised to see we are only 3-4 mil under the cap next year, which isn't even enough to sign the rookies, and Landry is still not under contract. I know things will change, but this isn't the same old Dolphins with a bunch of underperforming, overpaid "can't wait til we cut these guys", guys, cap maneuvering will be tighter than we've seen in a while. I think there's 5 mil to rollover, 3-5 at any rate, and I think they'd love to roll that over, in a perfect world anyway, I only see emergency signings in our future for this year, imo.
Back in my poorer years as I was still coming up as a writer, I had a wife and two kids at home who needed summer vacations. We were barely scraping by though so I'd email managers at resorts and say, "I noticed your online profiles on the travel sites need refreshing. If you'll comp me a suite for a few days, I'll come down with a professional photographer and get you some awesome page copy." I'd pick a half dozen amazing looking resorts along the East Coast and when one replied, I'd email several more in the same area with the exact same thing. Next thing you know, we're at the beach for three weeks staying at a different property every 3-5 days. I did this for years and went all over the place- from the Gulf Coast to the NC/TN mountains to beaches in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. I actually kind of miss it to be honest...I just got too busy with larger clients to do it. If you can write and handle a camera though, you'd be amazed at what doors will open for you if you bother to ask.
That was specifically mentioned in one of the threads about a month ago (although IIRC the guarantee amount was thought to be $8 mill). DJ was pushing some theory that he'd want to work for pride. I don't buy it as the guy has been about money his whole career and I think his physical skills have deteriorated. CBs often fall off quickly. CBs and RBs are IMO the two positions that fall off the map the quickest. Obviously there are exceptions, but they are just that, exceptions. If you go around betting for a rebound at those positions you'll end up losing that bet the vast majority of the time.
I think that it is entirely possibly that he could wind up sitting out this season. It would be absolutely reckless for an agent to let him go out for anything less than $6 mil, and if you really think about it, even playing for $7 million may be dumb. Think about it this way. Let's, for the sake of argument, say that Revis is washed up. Suppose one team happens to think that there is some gas still left in the tank and gives him $7 mil this year. Revis would wind up making an additional million dollars this year. Now, on the other hand, let's suppose that Revis sits this year out, and some team thinks that after sitting out for a year and last year's past poor performance that he would only be worth $4 million. By simply sitting out a year, and despite his decrease in market value, he still winds up making $3 million more than in the previous scenario. One may think that he could play simply for the love of the game, but that would be really, really dumb. He risks exposing the deterioration of his skills to the league hurting his value as well as the possibility of injury. In an aging and declining player, injuries can severely jeopardize future earnings. In all honesty, I really cannot see a team giving him more than $6 million next year. I watched him play a handful of time, and it appeared that the days of Revis Island were far in the distance. Simply put, if you asked me, "What is the best way to spend $6 million of Mr. Ross's money and have it best impact the Dolphins," I would simply say, "Extend Landry."
totally agree. However some team could give him a two year deal at $10M and he makes $4M more. The first year would be guaranteed at $6M to make sure he gets his 6, or $8M, but there would be an option and motivation to make a few more in year 2. Of course, this assuming he still has the desire and skill set
If I was the GM, I'd sign him to a two year deal, all based on the info I have available, my instinct based on what I know, the understanding of the situation, and where I think he is physically..I parlay that thought process into knowing what my teams needs...and the fact that I'm not playing tiddlywinks here, I'm trying to win.
I had a DSLR camera and I just practiced with lighting, angles, etc. until I was decent. Not great, mind you, not a true professional....but fairly good. I'm a writer/marketer by trade and I definitely wouldn't call myself a photo pro to those in the industry, but I could also deliver worlds better than what those locations already had. Later down the road though I worked with a true pro for stuff like that; we'd just ask for two comped rooms and both of us would bring our families. If you're interested in doing something like that, just go to Travelocity (or similar) and look for gorgeous resorts with crappy photos/text. They're likely losing out on thousands of dollars in weekly bookings so I was doing them a big favor. Remember, a suite doesn't cost $250-500 a night....that's just the sticker price of admission. But if nobody books it, then the room is worth zero for the day- the resorts were really giving me nothing from their pockets and everyone wins. I still do that with local businesses, restaurants, etc. as well...why pay retail when you can help someone out and get cool perks? I guess it's a small business owner's philosophy since everyone I know with mom and pop stores/businesses does it.
That's GENIUS! And resourceful! Your kids have a good papa! And your wife has a good man! I am tempted to try this, from a copywriting perspective.. but I couldn't do the pics :P
Just the copywriting works too...but you'd be amazing what you can do with a modern iPhone or Android these days. If you're a solid writer, then you can likely "see the visual story" and know what shots to take- I'm guessing you could do the pics just fine if necessary. But if you don't want to, then just look for properties with nice pics and lousy descriptions/page copy. I could literally do this for the next 50 years and still not cover 1% of the US destinations- there's a ton of trade work out there if you're willing to ask for it. The key is getting the property manager's email address though- don't contact the regular customer service! Usually you'll find a link at the very bottom of the page that says something like, "An Island Reality property" or "Part of the Island Realty Management Group". That's who you contact unless it's an owner/operator type of resort/hotel. In other words, you find sites on BookIt/Travelocity or whatever, then google that resort and visit them directly, find the agency that runs it at the bottom of the page and then find a property manager on the management group site. It's a little extra work but if you get the right person, they might say, "We have 140 properties and we'd love for you to do them all if this first one goes well." I literally had some situations like that where we were travelling several times a month for a couple of years. I've also stayed in rooms that run $1,500+ a night that I'd never dream of paying for....it's a really fun hobby/side job.
How many corners do you want? And does it matter if they can play? We have (not looking it up, just off the top here) Howard, Tankersley, Maxwell, McCain, Lippett, Plus a few Safeties whom I think will see quite a bit of between the hashes coverage responsibility Like Aiken, who has been taking plays at nickle CB, and Thomas. Could we upgrade, especially after the first three, sure. Cheaply...Nope. I like the young uns. Jones back to Captain the ship, better play from the LB's and a little luck staying healthy and we're pretty good I think. And Defenses are adapting to the "new" offense which exploits mismatches by putting big athletic or quick elusive receivers vs LB's. Guys that can cover the middle against run and pass are the new standard as opposed to the "lockdown corners" of yore. I honestly don't see Revis being an upgrade physically over anyone on the roster now. Now if you want to say "veteran leadership" or experienced eyes or any of that stuff, sure. But not for Revis $$$ And Revis has never been that guy. He's been a me me from day one. What other FA CB's are there on the market?
You never pass on corners, defensive ends and on this team, esp offensive linemen. Ad for the first two, please refer to the qb that plays in our division. No one should be satisfied with our roster Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Absolutely, I know people like to simplistically say 'you can never have too many CBs', but reality is you can. There are roster limits and limits to how many CBs you can have on the field. You usually can't have more than 6 DBs (7 has happened but it's very rare) and the Dolphins use 6 less than most. Revis is not going to supplant the Ss or the slot CB b/c that's not his game. He's also going to be behind Howard, Lippett and Tankersly physically. At this point in his career he's more name than ability. At best, he's competing against Maxwell and Pitts. It makes zero sense to pay $6-$8 million for a 5th CB who does't play STs. If we have injuries or get desperate I can see the subject being discussed, but at this point pining for Revis is more about chasing the name than any objective analysis of what he brings.
hmm. I wonder? seems to me Revis would bring as many positive intangibles to the table as well as his island. he's more than worth a reasonable investment to most teams, including Miami.
Only if he plans to work for free and is just looking for a ring. Even then I'm not sure they'd want him.
