The only thing keeping Zach Thomas from being a first ballot HOFer is Ray Lewis. Dick Andersen should be in already. Keuchenberg should be too. And I could see Webb getting votes, but I don't know if he gets enough.

He's been on the ballot for a few years now. Sadly, he hasn't been a finalist yet.

I agree 100%. It would be awesome if all 4 got into the Hall of fame the same year.

Zach as a player was a lot like Buoncotti. Buoncotti got into the HOF because he had SB rings, but I don't see him getting voted in without the SB rings.

Personally I always rated Zach higher than Ray Lewis because Ray Lewis took more risks than Zach, so while he had more positive impact plays he also had more negative plays where the opponent made a big play because he guessed wrong.
HoF voters, however, are fans of big game changing plays. Also player assessment is biased due to the round players are drafted in, so low rounders find it harder to get in than first rounders.

Garo Yepremian should get in just for having the worst passer rating in NFL history. :chuckle:

All kidding aside he revolutionized the kicking game and the K position. As far as kickers go he was the ish for a while.

This is a tangent, but I feel it's an interesting story. Reportedly Shula never forgave Garo for that play. And obviously Garo always felt horrible about it. Not too long after that SB, however, Garo received a letter from Shula saying that he forgave him and that Garo was part of the reason they got there, etc. At one of the reunions (30th, I think) Garo finally went up to Shula and thanked him for that letter, telling him how it had been a really tough time for him and how that letter had meant the world to him. Shula had no idea what Garo was talking about. Apparently, Shula's wife Dorothy was the one who actually wrote and sent that letter and never told Don about it.

That story makes Shula look pretty bad, pathetic actually, if true, because they won that SB, and it was a blocked kick, maybe he should have blamed the blocker who failed at his job instead of blaming a soccer player for not being a QB.

    1993 to be precise.

Funny at 6'-1", 265 lbs, he wouldn't even make a D1 college team today. Bodies have changed.

Since there seems to be a little confusion, here is the list of former Dolphins and when they were inducted into the HOF:

    Paul Warfield, 1983
    Larry Csonka, 1987
    Jim Langer, 1987
    Bob Griese, 1990
    Larry Little, 1993
    Don Shula, 1997
    Dwight Stevenson, 1998
    Nick Buoniconti, 2001
    Dan Marino, 2005
    Jason Taylor, 2017

Also, unless they're added by the Senior Committee, no former Dolphins other than Zach Thomas are going to get it at this point.

    I don't.

He didn't get into the HOF for anything that he did with us. He was a shoe in had he retired after he left the Chargers, and his second and third years with Miami were spent injured and not very effective. The rest of the guys would never have gotten in without their time as a Dolphin. Thats what's important to me. Might as well count Chris Carter or Thurman Thomas if you do Seau, you know.

Obviously, the thing about him as a HOFer is a joke, but did you know that Brown has the 5th most starts (88) at CB in Fins history? More than Patrick Surtain, even. Not bad for a 12th round pick.

I never saw him play, but I think that the fact that he played for the Fins, and not someone who generally stunk during that era played a big part in getting him in. HOF voters seemed to weigh team success even more for QBs of that era than they do today.

It was a different era. Griese was the epitome of the great field manager at a time when that was a compliment. I watched Griese and his cool leadership, excellent ball discipline, and solid passing made him a hall of famer against the competition of his day.

Too many people judge Bob by his broadcasting career where he is average now, though good earlier in his career. They missed the spark he regularly produced.

Since you never saw him play, I can cut you a little slack but Griese was a phenomenal field general of his day. Granted, Griese was surrounded by incredible talent but when the offense took to the field, there was NO doubt who was in charge. He was an INCREDIBLE quarterback!

Also keep in mind, Griese was the first quarterback in the modern NFL era that went to 3 Super Bowls in a row, winning 2 of the 3. And on a side note, had it not been for the birth of the World Football League, it was assumed the Dolphins would have gone to their 4th consecutive Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl IX but with the loss of Larry Czonka, Jim Kiick and Paul Warfield, the Dolphins' fate offensively was sealed. Even with the loss of those 3, the Dolphins still made the playoffs in the '74 season and lost to the Oakland Raiders (28-26) in the divisional playoffs which became known as the "Sea of Hands". Consider this...in those 4 years, the Dolphins played a total of 66 games. Of their combined record, the Dolphins were 55-10-1 (.833%) with 3 Super Bowl appearances and 2 Championships.

That alone says a lot to Griese's talent offensively on the field. To question whether or not Griese belongs in the HoF equates to questioning whether or not the likes of Bart Starr, Fran Tarkington or Kenny Stabler belonging in the HoF.

Just going an entire game calling their own plays would make 95% of current QBs' heads explode....
